Re: Big Sister
Thanks! yeah, the back is a Bantu-knot out. Right now I'm thinking about just putting my hair into two strand twists all over for a while, what do you think?
Re: Big Sister
It is a great idea. It will give your hair a rest from every day styling and manipulation. Please ensure your hair is well moisturized before and during. I thought I was doing a good job but when I took mine down after nearly three weeks my hair was not the same. It recovered after about four days.
Re: Big Sister
I posted on my BnB thread but just wanted to show my flat twist trial as well Thanks for the idea/inspiration to Chrs and others!

Basic Regimen
Someone asked my regimen and I thought I would share it with you ladies. I will also post it in my BnB Challenge.
Basic Regimen:
Conditioner wash (co-wash) my scalp with VO5 Moisture Milks.
- Wet hair thoroughly with warm water
- Pour about a half dollar size of the conditioner in my hand and apply to my scalp
- Massage conditioner into my scalp using fingertips only
- Rinse hair with warm water and squeeze out water from root to tip
Apply deep conditioner (DC) with Darcy’s Botanicals (DB) deep conditioning mask, Aubrey Organics (AO) White Camellia or AO Honeysuckle Rose conditioners
- Section hair into two
- Apply deep conditioner to both halves; about a half dollar size to each half
- Section hair in four and clip all but one section up
- Apply more conditioner as needed (I feel to see if it feels moisturized—it may take a while to determine if your hair is moisturized); start with nickel size and add as needed
- After conditioner is applied to each section, place a plastic bag or cap over your head
o I wet an old flannel pillowcase into saturated then wring to damp
o Place pillowcase in microwave for nine minutes
o Place pillowcase over bag
o Put on another plastic bag and towel
- DC with heat for 30 minutes (pillowcase stays warm entire time)
Rinse DC out with cool to cold water (hair should feel moisturized/soft)
Apply leave in conditioner using same procedure as DC. Favorites are Karen’s Body Beautiful hair milk and hair nectar.
*Apply oil (unrefined virgin coconut oil, castor oil, EVOO and/or jojoba oil) from root to tip
*Apply moisturizer from root to tip applying more to tip. Some of my favorite moisturizers are Darcy’s Botanicals Madagascar vanilla styling cream, KBB’s hair cream and Afroveda’s Totally Twisted Ginger butter.
In the evening, I spritz my hair with a strong tea made from burdock root and fenugreek (4 teabags to 2 cups of water) or a mix of water, Herbal Essences (HE) Hello Hydration (HH) and aloe vera gel. The mix is approximately 70% water, 25% HE HH and 5% aloe vera gel. I apply oil then a moisturizer.
*I recently switched up when I apply oil and moisturizer. You can apply moisturizer first then oil or oil then moisturizer. Either way you are sealing in the moisture in your hair.

Re: Big Sister
Wow very thorough but it sounds like a lot. Do you do all that everyday or some things one day and other things on other days?
Re: Big Sister
I do the regimen one day. This is what I consider my fall/winter regimen. In the summer I am a WnG gal.
Re: Big Sister
Wow very precise and detailed. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Big Sister
I purchase the burdook root and fenugreek teas from a local health food store. I can PM you if you want the place I went. You can find the teas in The Vitamin Shoppe or other health food chain store. Fenugreek is suppose to help with hair growth. I have read that you can purchase the oil and put 15-30 drops in warm water for a tea. You can also soak the seeds in coconut oil or chew on the softened seeds. I make strong tea rinses with them. I keep the tea cold so 1) it won’t go bad and 2) for a final rinse when I cleanse.NubieNattyTwn-kisha wrote:actually...where do you get the burdock root tea bags? and whats the fenugreek for?

Yes, I typically get up early Saturday morning and do it. This is my “me time” but with hubby’s schedule and my sons being grown and nearly grown. I have a LOT of me time. I would say it takes me about 2 hours to do my hair. Of course, longer if I am wearing twists.jamaicacurl wrote:ChrsLvsBks wrote:I do the regimen one day. Re: Big Sister
So I cut of the permed ends on a small section of hair to see what the curls looked like (I had to force myself to stop cutting before I did something I regretted. LOL) Here's where I cut it:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
and here it is in a itty bitty twist, I like the length and how fast it's growing, I think I'll definitely be ready to cut in May (I think the permed ends will all be gone in the back anyway since that's where my hair was shortest pre-transition)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
But I was just way too excited, I was smiling the entire time I was putting my hair in the twists to dry. Washing my hair has become such a joy where it used to be a chore (even if I am doing it more frequently now).
I'm getting better at flat twists, but I'm not to the point where I'll wear them in public (unless they are just in the front) yet. Do you have any tips for flat twisting the back?

Re: Big Sister
Seeing your twist made me want to reach through the monitor and touch it--gorgeous! May will be here in no time. I am glad washing is becoming less of a hassle and a joy, that is great to hear, Muz.
As far as flat twisting in the back, I do my best to keep my hands over my head as I twist. I think the tendency is to change the position of your hands when twisting the sides and back. I noticed when I keep my hands over my head, my twists stay more uniform. Try this and see if it helps. You will be a pro at it in no time.
Thanks so much for the update.
How is everyone else doing? I would love to hear!

Re: Big Sister
Sure, it is quite simple.
Section area in front for pin curls.
Part from ear to ear for double buns.
Pin up front section and hair for top bun.
Take a very small section of hair and wrap it around bulk of hair and secure with small bobby pin (can also use elastic).
Make four twists and wrap them around one another in opposite directions. In other words, the two twists on the right were wrapped around counterclockwise and pinned. The twists on the left were wrapped around clockwise.
Repeat two previous steps for top bun (I used two twists for the top).
Make 8 twists in the front.
Take four of the twists and make pincurl.
Repeat above step and make another pincurl.

Great! I'll try that. I just put my hair in Two Strand Twists today using ORS Twist and Loc Gel (and it's doing a great job of holding them normally the ends of my hair would have come apart right now, I like that I don't have to use rubber bands). I'm gonna sleep in satin covered sponge rollers and see how it looks tomorrow, then I'll post a pic I'm also gonna play around with up-dos and things like that (mostly because I'll have nothing better to do ~lol~). But I'm hoping to keep them in for at least two weeks which will hopefully keep my hands out of my hair (even though I can't help but constantly touch it sometimes).
Here's what they looked like right after:

I did them on dry/stretched hair.
