You ladies have really wonderful stories or reasoning behind the names you were given. Though you may or may not like your name, you have to appreciate the thought processes your parents went through to create a name specially for you. I was not that fortunate.

My first name is Rhonda. For many years I thought I was named after that dang old Beach Boy's song - "Help me, Rhonda". During a conversation I brought up the question was I named after the song - Help me, Rhonda. My mom said, "Song? No, after you were born I just looked through a book and named you Rhonda" [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] in a very dry and matter of factly tone (my dad was in Vietnam when I was born - not sure the story would have turned out differently if he was here). At that moment, I sort of thought wow - that's it???? UGH, you do not know how many times I've been horribly "serenaded" with that song! The middle name will not be disclosed... I'll just say it is country southern (first name 2 syallables, middle name 1 syallable). If I ever have children I hope the story behind their names is FAR BETTER than mine!

SharrĂ³n Latrice Sylvain

My first name is pronounced Sha-ron (the "o" makes an "ah" sound). My mother had a friend growing up who had this name but everyone called her Sharon. When my mom asked her why she didn't correct them her friend said it was just too much trouble. My mom told her she thought it was pretty and if she ever had a daughter that's what she would name her.

I'm not sure where my middle name comes from.

Sylvain is my married name (New Orleans based)

I like the fact that all of my names have 7 letters (including my maiden name, Pearson,) and 7 happens to be my favorite number.

I know this has been going on for a while, but my birth name is Lalita Michelle. My mother loved the name "Lolita" but Im sure you all knew or heard of who she was(the movie, the promiscuous one). She didnt want me associated with that person or her lifestyle so she changed the "o" to an "a". Pronounced La-lee-tuh.
Michelle was because my parents were hoping for a boy so it was originally going to be Micheline, but I think thats the tire brand so my father wasnt havign that and came up with Michelle. It is also my niece's(in honor of me) and sister-in-laws middle name. Then I end off with something simple BROWN...(just like the color).

Great stories!!!!

My full name is Dannielle Melissa Dionne Brathwaite. Not sure where the first two names came from, but Dionne comes from Dionne Warwick. My nickname is Dannie and everyone calls me that. People always spell my first name with one "n" and I have to constantly correct them.

Jasmine Desiree Collins (now King)

Im pretty "old"to be named Jasmine, growing up i had the toughest time finding all the fun stuff like barrettes and cups and stuff with my name on it. Now every little girls name is Jasmine.

My mom found my name when she was looking through some files at work and came across a 70 something year old lady whose name was Jasmine. I hated my name growning up, now i have mixed feelings about it, but everyone else seems to like it. I also do not like be called Jas. Thats it. Oh also Desiree has always reminded me of a stripper or porn star.LOL

Juices-n-Berries wrote:My name is Lorece Jenette Shaw. The Lorece is pronounced lor-reese. It still gives me problems to this day because people like to add and subtract letters to it. And no matter whether they see it spelled, I say or what, it never gets right. When I say it, they mistake it for Clarice, or Maurice. I'm like dude, I'm a chick. Why would I be named Maurice??? When they see it written, the pronounce it Loreche, Lorence, Loris, the list goes on. And don't even tell it to someone and ask them to spell it. I get Larice, Lourise, Laurese, and La'Reece. <---- [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] R u kidding me??? But it's different and unique so I like it. The only other people I've found with the name is an old deceased white lady born in the 20s (per google) and a German lady I found on Facebook.

My middle name is pretty simple. It's my grandmother's middle name, which comes from her mother's name which is Jeanetta.

My last name is pretty boring. It's Shaw. As if I already have a hard enough time convincing people that I'm African (per daddy) by the way I look (ignorance btw all africans don't look the same), it doesn't help that my last name is Shaw. People are like how are you African if your last name is Shaw. I'm like most LIBERIANS have English last names, as opposed to Nigerians. It really irks me because like Africa is a continent. There are sooooo many different types of people with different ethnic backgrounds. For example, one of my best friends name is Mohamed Arafat. But he's Egyptian and looks like a light skinned black person. If Africa is the continent from which all our ancestors came, why would one think they all look the same since we don't now. Anyways, let me get off my
soapbox. I can get really carried away. Lol.

Oh one more thing. My mom almost named me Krisnaja. Thank God I escaped that one. Lol.

I was so proud of myself because I said it right lolol. It's pretty though I like Lorece
----

My first name is Patrice, as a child I hated my name because kids would make fun of it and call me Pat-rice, Rice Patty among other things. But I like it now, what I do not like is when I tell people my name, and they come back to try and say my name again and they say Patricia (another joke in middle school too because the librarian's first name was Patricia), or if I send in for a magazine or something, somehow my name is Patricia!

My middle name is Ana-Alicia, though Ana should be pronounced: Ah Nuh, my mom calls it Anna, so I say it Anna too. I like my middle name and as a child I wished that it was my first but I'm sure that would've been made fun of too lol.

My dad almost named Cleopatra...thank God that didn't happen.

I despise my last name, and I can't wait to get rid of it. If I'm not married at a certain age I'll be legally changing it lmao. I like my DB's last name so hopefully we get married lmao.

Ohhh and to bring back baby names, I really like Keilana Keilee for a girl. Keilana is Hawaiian, and means adored one (or so it says lol). I may change the middle name since it seems redundant, but I'm really big on having the first and middle names starting with the same letters lol.

For a boy I like Jameson, Benjamin, Jayden, & Aiden, but before I get to those I would like him to have his father's name, whoever that may be.

I also like my mom's middle name: Cyrene.

And the name Liam, that was mentioned a few pages back. Very Happy

Jacquelyn Christina.

My mom named me after former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and also she always liked the name Jacquelyn. Her name ends in -lyn so instead of -line or -lin she chose to end mine in -lyn too.

I don't know why she chose Christina. I think she just like the name and thought it sounded nice with Jacquelyn. She chose the Chr beginning instead of Kristina because she wanted my brother and I to have the same initials "JCW".

Also the nurse wrote my name down wrong so legally my name is Jacquelyn Christian. Small mistake but my mom was furious when she found out fifteen years later lol

Christen Nicole

My parents chose my first name because they wanted me to have a Christian name (hence my name being spelled Christen instead of the more common Kristen). I don't know about my middle name but I seriously think it was a trend to make Nicole a middle name back them. I know sooo many people around my age with the same one.

Since the only children I'll ever have are of the 4 legged variety, all my puppykids have, first, middle, and their father's surname.

My husband's adult children moved out and the oldest wanted to take the family pup, whose name was Stormie (my husband named all puppykids after cartoon characters). As he was quite lost without his pal, we decided to adopt when we got engaged. I insisted on naming our new pup, but wanted to pay homage to to DH's puppypal. I've also always loved Biblical names, and had recently seen a MTV reporter and said if I ever adopted a little boy, 2 or 4 legged, he'd have THAT name! Hence, a Biblican/X-Man naming theme was born....

GIDEON STORM - MTV reporter/DH's favorite female X-Men
JERICHO ROGUE - saw on a road sign/Louisiana X-Men character, I love me some Nawlins!!
ZION JUBILEE - always loved the name/an X-Men character and also has Biblical ties

...and if I can get my husband to lose his mind long enough to agree to another kid, that one will be named...
