My hair is BABY SOFT today. In all my years, I can never remember my hair being this smooth and soft, I'm talking even my damaged ends are smooth. This will make them much easier to trim tonight. I also used about a quarter sized amount of Aloe Vera gel today and it does lay down m edges well.

You are not alone. I pre-pooed, washed and conditioned my hair last night and did a bantu knot out. I only used about a nickel sized amount of Suave Humectant conditioner and Hawaiian Silky 14n1 before I did my bantu knots and when I took them out this morning, my hair was the softest is has ever been! I really think it had something to do with the Suave Humectant because that was my first time using it as rinse out and a leave in. But I will definitely be doing that from now on.

Ebbz,
When you do your bantu knot out do you use hair pins to keep them from unraveling or do they stay in place without them?

Most of them stay in place without pins. I usually only need pins for the smaller ones where my hair is shorter, like in the back and sometimes in the front.

Ashima wrote:@ Curlinurse: It has been 3 months and 2 weeks for me. I too find that the pace of my hair growth has picked up. I believe my hair realizes that chemicals will not be harming it anymore. Also I feel since not using anymore heat directly on my scalp and hair help. Also being able to wash my scalp more than just once a week or every two weeks is making a difference.
Ladies, what is a little worrisome is that now when I wash my hair I noticed that the relaxed hair has some of the curly hair attached to it. Is anyone experiencing this as well? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also we all seem to have built a network here. As Curlinurse has asked do we want to move on or just remain here as support network?

@Ashima: I think you're right - the cleansing of the scalp, the natural products, and the lack of chemicals have this hair growing like weeds. What I noticed too is what they call "scab hair". When it first started growing, it was rough and wiry. Now, I actually feel corkscrews. Yesterday, I cowashed with TreSemme Captivating Curls conditioner and my hair feels like baby hair (at the new growth line). The relaxed hair is another story - it's dry and nasty and puffy. Honestly, I just focus on the new hair I will be keeping and make sure my ends are trimmed to avoid splitting. When I do use heat, I only use it below the line of demarcation, unless it's time for my 6-8 week trim. Then my beautician straightens the entire head. If it weren't for my fear of split ends, I would never straighten it.

And yes, I notice the curly hair attaching to the relaxed hair. I just detangle from the ends up, and that helps to separate the hair better. Are you going to be a long term transitioner?

It doesn't matter if we move to the 3 month blog or stay here. It may be good to begin a new thread so all the women with similar dates stick together.

Hello ladies, I am two months post relaxer and I am now completely obsessed with natural hair. This is my second time transitioning...I wasn't in the right mind state the first time! This time around my hair is really short, so the BC will be fairly soon and I won't have that much to CHOP! I'm getting it braided next saturday and am totally excited about this journey. Every free moment I have, I'm looking at a natural blog, naturallycurly or some other site. Even now, lol I'm on a lunch break at work and I'm on here. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] So I say, everybody stay strong and we will be very pleased with the end results!

Hi my transitioning sistas,

I bought Cantu shea butter leave in conditioning repair cream. It says that it can be used daily. My question is can it be used on dry hair or should I wash my hair daily and apply?

2 Months Post Relaxer - Page 6 Empty In Need of Support!

Post by DannyCurl 6th July 2010, 3:21 pm

Hello Everyone. In January my mother did the
ultimate BC! I had been telling her for years that she would look absolutely
fabulous with a TWA- she’s one of those sickeningly petite women with a cute
little face, round hips and a booty to match. So out of now where she just goes
and gets it shaved- nothing but scalp. I was so proud of her, but it kind of
irked me. I kept thinking, why didn’t I
do that (minus the scalp). But then like clockwork, I would flash back to about
3 years ago when I had actually attempted (and FAILED) to go natural. It was
the most self-defeating thing I had ever done.
I had no information, no one to ask for advice, and no clue as to what
to do with my hair. I fought it, and it fought back. Everything you are not
supposed to do, I did. I actually attempted to comb through my wet hair with a
comb, on more than one occasion! I was a lost cause. Eventually ran back to
relaxing my hair. So here I am again, 2 mos post relaxer; I even tired henna*
on the 4th (love it BTW). I’d love to make some friends who are at the 2 mos
transitioning stage. Going to henna again this coming weekend, will post pics
then!

@nnlathan I've never used it. post it as a question in the general or product forum.

I twisted my hair yesterday ladies...I will post pics in a few minutes to show you how it looks. I just did it as a protective style because I play in my hair so much, and I don't want to do anything to affect its growth.

naychirgurl wrote:Hello Ladies!

I'm newly transitioning myself. My last perm was April 16, 2010 (to be exact). I've been doing twist-outs and roller sets. It feels so good not to have to worry about sweating my hair back in the summer heat! I'm truly loving the fact that I stopped being afraid and took the step to go natural. I will be doing the long transition (at least 18 months). I also henna my hair because I have a mufasa mane of grey and it's all through my hair, as well. My biggest problem right now is the tangling (which makes me truly understand why people BC so soon)! I guess I'm not using enough conditioner when I wet-comb/brush. My current products are the Giovanni crew: shampoo, conditioner, and direct leave-in. I also use a mix of almond oil/jojoba oil/rosemary oil/water to spritz my hair. And also shea butter to help with the twist-outs. If you have any other suggestions, please let me know and I'll do whatever I can to help anyone. Happy Transitioning! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Detangle your hair in sections. After combing through each section, braid it our twist it up so keep it from getting tangled again. Hope that helps [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Thank you for the advice! I will give that a try AND just be more patient.

Post by Vanisia3G 7th July 2010, 8:37 pm

@nnlathan- currently I put the cantu shea butter LIC in only when my hair is wet. I really only use it after I have washed or co-washed (to avoid product build up)...my disclaimer is that I am new at this, as all of us are, so it could very well be ok to use in wet or dry hair. It probably just depends on which method makes your hair feel better afterwards :-)

@naychirgurl- I have found that detangling in the shower with water running through it helps a lot. When I rinse the conditioner out, I usually detangle at that time. You may want to put something in/over the drain to trap the hair... a lot of the hair ends up in my shower drain instead of in the comb. But my comb slips through my hair a lot easier this way. I also detangle in sections :-)

I am so happy! I'm finally able to do braidouts that comes with nice looking curls.I have tried doing my hair twice and each time it was a hot mess. I feel better now about transitioning. Maybe transitioning won't be so hard after all.

Okay I did a twist n curl. and I must say I'm looking a hot mess!! lol. Well I'll have to stick to braidouts. I salvaged my hairdo by slapping on a headband. I'll post pics of this disaster as well as my successful braidout for the 4th.

Still learning!

@Vanisia, I will give that a try. So far, I just wash my hair in the kitchen sink. But for the record, I think my permed hair is just pissed at me for going natural. I think I hear it laughing as it tangles around the comb sometimes (LOL!). It knows that I'm not ready to BC yet and wants to torture me. Post by BeautifullyNapptural 9th July 2010, 8:44 pm

Well, I hit two months July 7th and I did my very big chop today! I washed and conditioned my hair and went through an ordeal trying to detangle it. I said...forget it and went to the barber! The awesome thing about it is the name of the barbershop is New Beginnings for Hair and my church is called New Beginnings!

Couple of weeks before...
