Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
Braid out at five months post. My braid out was done on wet hair, using Darcy's Botanicals Coconut Lemongrass Transitioning Creme and Madagascar Vanilla Styling Creme. I re-braid nightly using rosewarter, Darcy's transitioning creme and Madagascar styling creme.

Results of my 1st henna. My hair is soft, shiny and more manageable. Looking forward to my next henna.

Yea PinkPearls I've been trying at the 1st 3 weeks of my transitioning I was doing it every week. Then I got scared because I heard some people say you shouldn't do it that often.. I think it depends on your hair if you hair need it then do it but I don't do it that much as I did b4 I think I will go back to it.

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
I had no idea. Well, maybe I'll cut back to once a week, or when my hair needs it. It definitely does help after using henna.

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
So I'm very proud of myself. Tonight I just did the most intricate braiding session to date. Normally I section out big sections of hair half-way moisturize it lol and just braid and wrap in a roller any kind of way [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] but TONIGHT I made small sections (to get a better curl pattern), I put on my EVOO paying close attention to those ends, I trimmed each section as needed, I put my roller on VERTICALLY so the curls can DROP not just curl up on itself and spent 2 hours doing it all . MAN I am so proud!!! lol I should be taking the rollers out tomorrow and I'm praying (and expecting) for success [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Letha,
How has your transitioning been going? For the longest time I was having issues with just learning HOW to take care of my hair. It's so different than relaxed and it gets so frustrating at times [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
You know what April its not that bad.. My only issue now is detangling and I think that is why I don't co-wash more during the week and I don't have a lot of time when I get off work. Trying to find styles is another thing.. So I am going to focus more on braids, cornrows and I am looking at goddess braids I am trying to learn how to do those...
Right now for me it's just damp buns and even when I did braidouts I would make sure I spray the NG with moisture leave in.. So far so good..

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
Letha I agree detanglling was such a hardship! But I started sleeping with a satin bonnet and now, its not really an issue anymore. I also try not to cowash as much anymore during school. That's actually the biggest detangling problem now, is when I wash my hair. I'm still trying to work on a way to make it easier.
I know its probably a useless search, but I would LOVE to find a style I can simply do in the morning, without having any premeditated actions for it. Buns are fine, but I'm dying to let my hair out...

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
I feel you on that about the hairstyles.. I don't have any problems with my hair detangling when I go to bed at night.. I really don't comb my hair anymore expect for detangling and that is while it is wet..
If I see any cute hairstyles or come up with some I will let you know

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
Congrats Letha and April! My hair has been so unpredictable during this transition. Last week, I was In a less humid climate and my hair was great. This week, it's back to being frizzy from the Houston humidity. Mostly, my relaxed hair doesn't hold the braid out...maybe I need a light holding creme.
April, I hope your braid out comes out great. I usually make 6 braids, leave about 1/2" of hair unbraided, roll vertically with satin rollers, and my curls look great until I hit the humidity. Maybe I will try making more braids.
Yes, Letha, detangling can be a monster. I try to comb my hair every night when I re-braid, otherwise my hair is a tangled mess. I spritz my hair with rose water or water and conditioner and then comb.

Sometimes my hair doesn't come out the way I want, but I work with it until I find a style. If you don't think it suits you, find a style that does. Yesterday, I co-washed and did a braid out, but my hair turned out frizzy and poofy. I decided to make a ponytail and put on scarf.
When I make a braid out, I slick the front of my hair back and tie on a scarf or headband. I use a spritz of rosewater or water and conditioner to dampen my hairline and nape, then apply my styling creme, smooth with my hands and or brush, tie a satin scarf around my hairline and nape for 20 - 30 minutes, remove the satin scarf and tie on my silk scarf or a headband. I also try to hide the visible parts from the braid out sections with my fingertips. Also, to make my hair hang down, I usually tie a scarf around my forehead and back of my head. Maybe you can try to pull your hair away from your face and see it that suits you better.
