Thank you all! Smile I can not tell you all how free I feel! I'm just in a happy mood all the time now (which is not like me, or should I say, the old me). Yarn Braids (again)! - Page 5 Icon_flower

I've worn it out twice so far with no worries about anyone staring at me
or looking at me funny. Yarn Braids (again)! - Page 5 Icon_rr If they do, that's their problem. My mother is still trying to get used to it since I BC'd so early but she didn't have any negative comments about it. I'm anxious to see what my grandparents will
say when they see it. They don't understand natural hair at all and have
always known me to have long, relaxed hair, so I can only imagine their
reactions.

I went to the bss today and picked up some raw shea butter (8
oz.) for $4.99 and some IC Fantasia Gel with Olive Oil (20 oz.) for $4.19. I wanted Eco Styler
but they didn't have the Olive Oil one or the Clear one. I put on the
shea butter, some Hawaiian Silky 14n1 and then the IC Fantasia Gel. I
didn't use a whole lot like they do in the youtube videos for curl
definition, but I did use a good bit. My hair feels a little rough
(maybe thats the texture of it lol) but not as dry as it did with my
other gel (Smooth N Shine). I think I will try that combo for a few days
and see how I like it. I'm still co-washing with my Suave conditioners.
They don't feel as amazing as they did while I was transitioning but I
think I just have to get used to the texture of my natural hair. I'm
guessing its a 4b (not much curls, unless you use gel and more
bends/angles in the hair strand than waves). It all seems to be the same texture except the outer edges of my hair (front and sides), which have looser curls.

Yarn Braids (again)! - Page 5 Empty Shea Butter and Hair Texture

Post by Ebbz 16th July 2010, 12:34 am

I just deep conditioned my hair for the first time in 2 weeks, which is a shame. I used Hawaiian Silky right after I rinsed it out and I applied some shea butter a few minutes later. I've never used pure shea butter before so I don't know what to expect from it or how to use it, but I did post about it in the general section of the forum. My hair feels soft but I'm waiting to see how it will feel when its dry. I'm thinking I have a mix of 4a/4b. I'm not too concerned with what type of hair I have, but I would like to know for the purpose of buying products that would work better on my texture of hair. The hair at the roots seems to have more of a defined curl than the ends so maybe I have some damage from those years of relaxing????? I'll wait until it grows out some more....

Wet hair, No product (looser curl pattern in the middle???)

Damp hair, Hawaiian Silky 14n1 and shea butter (it makes my hair look "ashy")

In relation to what you said about your texture I noticed that when I started to pay attention to what my hair liked and really focused on moisturizing my hair my curls started to feel looser than before. I'm not sure if that makes sense. I'm just saying that to say take a mental note on what your texture is now and then look at it again in a month or so and see if there's any change.
I'm apologizing now if what I just typed didn't make sense.... I really need to go to bed.... Yarn Braids (again)! - Page 5 Suspect

(this is more for my benefit than yours so I know my suspision isn't in my head...lol)

Oh! Check out the TWA growth challenge. I like the info that's shared in that section.

What you typed makes perfect sense to me. lol My roots seem more moisturized than my ends and they also seem to have more curl definition so what you said makes perfect sense to me.

Hey Ebbz, I transitioned never bc'd but I hear others with TWA's talk about scab hair. It's the hair that was close or at the decamarcation line. Some ladies on this post http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/showthread.php?t=35737 on naturallycurly.com are talking about it. Check it out

Thanks for the posts! I have thought about it being scab hair, but then I heard on another forum (I think lhcf.com) that there is no such thing as scab hair so I am not sure. It definitely doesn't have much curl definition and feel dry even though my roots feel soft and moisturized so if there is a such thing as scab hair, I think that's what it is.

When I woke up this morning, my hair didn't feel any softer than it usually does ( put shea butter on it last night). That could be the "scab" hair issue or just the infamous dry TWA after BC. I will continue to use it every night before bed though and see what kind of results I get.

Spritzed my hair with water this morning and put some IC Fantasia on it. I didn't shingle it since its so short and I don't like a whole lot of gel, but I did coat my hair the best I could with it, without putting too much on. I'll take some pictures throughout the day and post them later.

ok...I lied, no pics. I had a very busy and interesting Yarn Braids (again)! - Page 5 Icon_mad day. My grandfather was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and was hospitalized today due to an allergic reaction to some meds he was prescribed. The doctor and nurses then proceed to overload his system with all kinds of other meds for the allergic reaction and to keep his blood sugar down as a result of it sky rocketing BECAUSE of the meds for the reaction. I was not pleased by this and by the end of my visit in his room, they knew that. Yarn Braids (again)! - Page 5 Icon_mad If any of you ladies know of any "home remedies" or natural ways to lower blood sugar and blood pressure, please let me know. Anything is better than a handful of pharmaceuticals.

My avi is me before I went out with my girls for a girls night out to the Comedy House to see Tyler Craig. Today was the first day I wore my TWA without a headband. I was kind of self conscious about the way it looked without one the first two days, but now, I don't care. I love it either way. I do want some more headbands to add to my collection though.

I've noticed a lot more coils in my hair underneath all the "fuzziness" and around my edges...Very excited about that and seeing how it looks once it begins to grow out. I joined the TWA challenge today too. You can check my stats under Natural Hair Challenges---->TWA Challenge Month 2.

awww..sorry about Grandpa!!!!

After reading about scab hair, I think I might have a patch of it too at my nape. It is dry, wiry, tangled and can never hold a twist! I always got bad burns with relaxers in that area. mmmmm...I need to investigate more!

Ladies my hair felt so dry and brittle yesterday, I must have moisturized it 4 or 5 times throughout the day! I spritzed it twice with my spray bottle mix and used some shea butter. I used my oil moisturizer another time and before I went to bed I spritzed it with the spray bottle, used leave in conditioner and shea butter and sealed with oil. It payed off though. My hair was soft when I woke up this morning.

My grandfather hates my hair. His exact words were "I don't know who talked you into cutting all your hair off, but don't let them talk you into anything else, ever again!" But I expected his reaction to be less than pleased. Long, thick hair runs in our family so that's what he's used to. Even my grandmother wears long wigs and weaves.

I rocked my TWA with lots of curl definition thanks to my IC Fantasia gel, (which I love because it doesn't make my hair hard or too dry) to church this morning and got lots of compliments. It feels good to be accepted, no matter what kind of hair I have.
