Re: 2011 Hair Growth Challenge -- Jan thru Apr
This challenge is perfect for me. My hair has been in a serious rut right now and I'm just about ready to cut it off.
I believe I will put it away for 6 months and then re-assess how I feel about it then. In the meantime, this challenge will help me rebuild my abandoned regimen and give my hair a much-needed break.
Name: Jany/wyldhoney
Hairtype: os Curly cotton-ball (mostly 4a with some annoying 3/2/1 strands evenly interspersed throughout)
Texture: Fine hair, low density (thin, thin thin!)
Length: 6-8 inches (front shorter than the back)
Hair goal: Healthy hair, shoulder length unstretched (this may take me another 2 years because my shrinkage is painful)
Regimen:
Protective Styling! (5 days in twists, 2 days out)
Detangle, prepoo, shampoo, DC, brush and style weekly
Moisturise & seal every other day
Extended protective style (kinky twists or crochet braids) going in in January, wear for a month.
Pictures of starting length to come this evening.

I would like to join!
Name: Nanci
Hair Type: I'm not totally sure but maybe 3C/4A
Routine: This is actually what I hope to improve on as well and I didn't list the products I use because it varies and I still have my hair professionally styled so I have no idea what my aunt uses:
Weekly: Shampoo and DC style w/ twists or flat twist out and for the winter I've been straightening a bit but will wear it for 2 weeks ** depending on how the style holds up I might co-wash between washes and will attempt to style or wear a puff until next wash
Monthly: Protein Treatment (Mizani brand)
Length Goal: I would like to be APL when straightened by this time next year
I also wanted to add that I would like to learn to sucessfully style my hair on my own during this challenge. My aunt is a beautician and I still go to her to style my hair a lot so I will be posting pics of styles I've done on my own as well as length checks.

Re: 2011 Hair Growth Challenge -- Jan thru Apr
Ok. Here's my info finally:
Name: Kendre'
Hair Type: 3c @ nape, 4a everywhere else
Routine: After wearing a sew-in/kinky twists as transition styles for the last 14 months, I just cut my relaxed ends off early in the morning on 12/18...so I don't really have a routine. Here is what I think I'll be doing, through the winter, though:
Co-Wash/DT - 1-2 times/week w/ HE HH or Aussie Moist Conditioner
Pre-Poo - every other week before a shampoo w/ Aussie Moist Conditioner, olive oil and honey
Shampoo - every other week w/ Suave Naturals Daily Clarifying Shampoo
Deep Condition - I really want to try Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose since so many people rave about it, but before I purchase it, I'm going to use up this Lustrasilk mango shea butter cholesterol conditioner...preventive measures for product junkieism...
I've tried 3 different leave ins--Organix Coconut Conditioner, HE None of Your Frizzness, and KeraCare Naturals Leave in. I like Organix Coconut b/c of the smell. None of your frizzness smells great, but it's not my favorite. I'm going to give KeraCare Naturals another try...I used it on my 1st out after I cut my hair, and I think I was too heavy handed.
After I apply my leave in, I twist--shocking, I've tried 3 different stylers--KeraCare Naturals Twist & Define Cream, Lustrasilk Mango/Shea butter, and Cantu Shea Leave In. For today's twist out, I used organix + Cantu + EVOO--love it. Curls are defined, soft & smell really good. I used the 2 Keracares together and--like I said, I'll try the combo again w/ a lighter touch.
After I twist, I seal the ends of each twist w/ EVOO and rub CD Lisa's Hair Elixir on the exposed parts of my scalp. I've been wearing twist outs at work. I wore a very sad bun the 1st day I went to work after my chop, but b/c I cut my ends off myself, my hair is pretty choppy, and I had to use a lot of hardware to keep the bun respectable Twist outs look the best right now, and my co-workers looove my hair
Nightly, I've been alternating b/w retwisting and mini-pineappling
Hair Length Goal: For this portion of the challenge, I want all my hair to reach chin length in stretched (not straightened) styles. I think if I get to chin length, I'll be able to bun more often.
Happy growing!

Oh my gosh! How did you retain so much length? Do you mostly wear your hair in twists?

Re: 2011 Hair Growth Challenge -- Jan thru Apr
I'm a slow grower so I try to leave my hair alone as much as possible so I can retain length. I wear my hair twisted 85% of the time because its the only style I can do (besides cornrows). When my hair isn't twisted it tends to fall out from me combing it or playing in it so I leave it alone as much as possible. I noticed that my hair has to be stretched, twisted ot braided in order for me to retain length, otherwise I'll be finding it on the floor, in my comb, in the shower and pretty much anywhere else you can think of.
By the way, you're avatar pic is cute.

Ok, count me in. I love these challenges because they make me accountable! Please excuse the night shirt!
Post your name: Tiffany (DreamMerchant)
Hair Type: I have no idea but I think I have fine strands
Hair Length Goal: I will take what I can get
Routine:
-Keep my hair twisted until the challenge it over
-Co-wash every other day
-Apply coconut oil after co-wash and seal with sunflower oil
-If/when I shampoo, I will use Nutrigena clarifying shampoo then use a little Nyle
-Co-wash with Sonoma condish. I still have alot left so I have got to get rid of it.
-Spritz my hair and ends every morning and night with water and diluted Garnier Fructise Sleek-in shine (If I do not dilute it I will get build-up)
-Keep hair covered while in the house
-Nightly scalp massages
-Apply Parachute coconut oil on hair before washing with shampoo
Other than that, I am going to go from drinking 3 green smoothies to 6 green smoothies to boost immunity and maybe some hair growth! Oh and keep drinking about a gallon of water a day.
Before-front of hair is 12.5 inches pulled
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Before-Back hair is 14.5 inches pulled

Re: 2011 Hair Growth Challenge -- Jan thru Apr
Happy new years everyone! hope you all rung in the new year safely and with people you love.
I washed my hair last night because I thought I had beach plans the next day (didn't happen though ) I used black soap with olive oil to wash and conditioned my hair with HEHH conditioner, Hot 6 oil, Castor oil and about a third of a vial of fermodyl 07 (I put the other 2/3 in a spray bottle). Before I put the conditioner I was upset at how course my hair felt and was scared that I got heat damage. After? my hair was softer, shinier and was curling like no other! I literally got a comb through all of my hair from the root with NO TANGLES!!!!!!!
This is how my hair normally is after washing/detangling and deep conditioning (sorry for the bad picture quality)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
This is with fermodyl

I just finished one challenge, why not join another? I get so inspired by seeing others' growth that it's contagious to join these challenges. Plus it's just fun and supportive!
Name: Fleur
Hair Type: normal porosity, normal elasticity, fine-medium texture, with a hair pattern of corkscrews/coils, s-waves, and frizzy parts.
Routine:
**Wash 1-2x/wk with Devacurl No Poo Shampoo
**Deep Condition-ORS Replenishing Pack mixed with Lavera Rose Milk Conditioner
**Sometimes I put in a leave-in--KCKT or Darcy's Peach Kernel
**Section hair and apply mixture of EVOO and jojoba oil
**Apply a layer of Darcy's Curl Cream Gel and KCCC for at least 5-day curls
**For soft curls, I spray a mixture of water oils, apply Qhemet's BR cream and KCCC. I baggy it and it's super soft when I remove the bag
**Night: only a silk bonnet for hard curls; baggy and silk bonnet for soft hair
I also take folic acid tablets, Juice Plus vitamins (which are awesome), and a multi-vitamin
GOAL: Healthy hair and any growth I can get. At the end of the challenge, I plan to track my growth based on these profiles.

Length Check
Hi ladies! in an effort to share my blog/youtube channel, I uploaded a length check video! I discovered the following measurements
left side - 6.5 inches
Right side - 7 inches
Front-7-8 inches
Back Left 6 inches
back right 7 inches
middle ranged from 7-8 inches
I thought my hair was longer than this, but I keep forgetting I trimmed in November. My measurements may also be off a little because it was quite tricky using a tape measurement . anyways it was a good time using imovie to make this video
Happy growing ladies, and please check out my video Thanks!

Hey ladies, I will be posting length checks on here in a few days. I still have my cornrows in and will probably take them out on Wed. I'll measure then. Hope you all had a great new year's night!!!

So, I was supposed to post my products. I basically use evoo and honey to prepoo, wash with Kinky Curly Knot Come Clean and Hello Hydration, Condition while bathing with Hello Hydration conditioner. Rinse, then either KKKnot Today or Cantu Shea Leave In and depending on what I'm doing, KKCurling Custard and go or some oils then twist for the night and twist out. I just recently tried the honey and evoo and my hair felt great. I do use JBCO on my hair every other evening, massaged in before I twist.
Pics tomorrow after my twist out....
