OMG KNH! I am sooooo sorry to hear this happened to you... I couldnt imagine. A crackhead? Who then returns to the room to smoke and watch porn. Wooooooow! I hope you get everything straightened out. That is too much stuff to just let go, if things don't go smoother I'd definitely get a lawyer involved. That is ridiculous!

I'm thankful you & your mom weren't there when he returned!!! Yeah, stay on them because...how did he get back in? They are BEYOND liable!

I really had a great time with my sons....until this madness started. I'm going to sit back and let the hotel do their investigation. It is a big name hotel...so we'll see. I told my brother (mr. marine) so glad he wasn't there...we would be scrapping up bail money right now. That young man understanging goes to zero in 0 seconds flat!!! No

Thanks that win came right on time. I so love AfroVeda or rather Penny loves it!! Yeah I really do...because I have tons of conditioner, but I really don't have a lot of styling products. That was the last bit of my Juices N Berries and I use my KBN for my skin...and the Oyin Whipped Pudding on my face...just a mess that's what this is... No

Something is real strange about this incident, and I'll keep y'all posted on the out come!!

No forced entry...I'm just at a lost as to how he got in that room. I'm not as pist as I was yesterday...I just want my stuff replaced. You know I spend money on my products and the nerve of someone to steal my stuff. My mom thinks I a trip about that, but oh well. She lost a lot and I'm going to make sure that I get this taken care of for her if nothing else.

My suggestion would be to find out who their property manager is. If you can't get anywhere with dealing with the hotel directly, go up the chain of command and contact them. Then again, this is what my job did, and some businesses are a bit backwards, so......

The were in contact with me yesterday...I got a call from the assistant general manager as well as his boss the RVP manager. They both indicated that someone from the Risk Managment Department would be contacting me. However, right now I'm getting all my documentation together..i.e. a list of my my things and my mom's as well as the cost together, because I'm hoping they will follow thru and take care of our loss. I mean the entry was forced, plus the assistant gm told me that just because I slamed the door that didn't guarnteed that the door locked!! I'm like WHAT??? That is sooo crazy to me. I mean isn't it their responsibility to provide a Safe Haven for their guest? So if I close a door it shoulr lock if that's the function of the door right? You know what I mean...this is has been so crazy and to top it off...someone tried to break in the room 3 door down from my room. So something was reall going on...

I hope this somewhat helps!

Thanks for the input....I helps to understand why everyone (until I told them to stop) kept telling me that the hotel is not liable. However, if that is the case why is it not posted (that they are not liable) so all guest can see and make a decision if they want to stay at a hotel that doesn't have to provided a safe comfortable stay for their guest. That is so interesting to me...

Sooo sorry to hear about your experience! I was thinking I was going to see great pictures of your weekend hair, but definitely not this "foolishness & mayhem" (in my Niecy Nash voice). RYL was right btw, you could pass for a big sis. He must have been on some good stuff to think that you were not coming back to the room-maybe he got a hold of your vicodin. But seriously, I am thanking God that you and mom were not alone when you went back to the room. He's was working then and is working your situtaion out now. Praying that you will have a better week.

Girl..... don't I know! Part of the reason I left the hotel was because I got sick of jerking people around... Now reading all of what you said, I'm fired up--and it isn't even me!!!

To answer your question, "shouldn't hotels provide a safe have to their guests?" the answer (according to them) would be yes and no. They are responsible for doing all they can within reason to keep you safe; however some things they cannot control. For example, several hotel guests where I worked would have car break ins; however, in some of those cases, they left valuables (GPS, laptop, money) in plain sight. At that point, some responsibility could be put on the guest, especially if I told them NOT to leave valuables in plain sight. This case, however, is much different. Like everyone else, I'm pretty sure this was caused by a hotel staffmember since 1) there are very few "master" keys to open all doors, 2) only hotel staff are allowed to use them (front desk, housekeeping, management), 3) staff members usually have to "sign out" a key--what time they used it and for what reason and 4) in order for a paying guest to get a key, they must show photo ID. If the door didn't lock when you slammed it, that's a maintenance issue, not yours, and since someone in housekeeping should have serviced your room they should have reported it.... GUURL, don't get me started! I worked at my job long enough to know when someone's BSing you, and they are. Clearly.

Now I had to do all of this at a midscale hotel, so if this is happening at a high end one, girl I say pull out all the stops!!!!!

**Sigh** on a happier note: Congrats on the Afroveda win!! That soooo came in handy I'm sure =)

Hello KNH,

Unbelieveable!!! I have friends who had someone open their hotel door but, that was in Turkey!

You have not done so - please file a fraud alert with the credit reporting agencies (Experian, TransUnion, and I forgot the third one's name). Just in case savvy crackhead has your stuff. This will prevent someone from obtaining instant credit and charging a lot of stuff in your and your mom's name. I've experienced this first hand - it is a nightmare to clear up.

I'm so sorry to hear this happened to you and your family. Glad they caught somebody though, I might have tried giving him a beat down before the po po's carried him away. Jesus take the wheel..

WOW leave it to a crack head. They can get their a** into all type of stuff. I am sorry that you all had to go through this. I hope everything it taken care of and your mom doesn't have to go throught to much drama to get all of her credit nad bank cards taken care of. I am sorry that you lost your hair products also that's just a low blow they are proberly mixing them in some crack Evil or Very Mad . For the life of me I can't understand what he was thinking to breakin take your stuff and come back. Only a Crack Head. On the other hand I am glad you had a good time with your son and that LSU won a game.

Awwww KNH, I'm so sorry to hear about your awful experience.

In my opinion, the hotel FAILED in its duty to provide a safe and secure environment for its guests. The door wasnt forced and therefore the hotel DOES have responsibility for whatever negligence occurred on its part to facilitatae such a terrible occurrence. Don't let up; keep escalating the pressure. If they dont take you seriously be prepared to complain to corporate. complain to the BBB, take your case to the Consumerist, call up a local tv station and tell your story.

Dont let them get away with it, they owe you full compensation for the replacement of every last thing that was stolen from you, as well as free credit monitoring for your mom who lost her cards etc.

I hope you succeed in getting them to fulfil their obligations.

You know that incident it the icing on the cake. I'm so tired of the lack of integrity with business. I heard from the Risk Management Department and they indicated that they would not be replacing our stuff. So I'm getting an attorney. I'm going to sue the hotel, the guy that was in our room and anybody else I can think of. That is if the attorney tells me that I have a case.

The management staff lied and said that they saw a key in the room. There wasn't a manager present, nor did they have 4 keys....I doubled checked at 2am that morning...this is such a trip..so on to something pleasant..

I am going to have to tell my sons that..big sister!! LOL I wonder what their reaction will be?

This is so draining and not only that...the hotel indicated that they would not be replacing our things. So....I'm going to talk to a lawyer to see what our rights are.

Thanks for your support...I can't keep talking about this, because I'm still so angry and now it just time for me to take ACTION. I'll update everyone whenever I get this resolved!!

First off, hair's on point!!!!!! Hey CC...it been a while!! How are you, and I'm trying its almost 1 year!!

Ok, now the hotel situation:
It's not that the hotel isn't liable, but they cannot "admit" liability. Basically, a worker can think that the hotel was at fault or negligent, but to vocalize that to you could potentially cost them their job. I worked at a hotel for four years (all through college), and while I could never say "yup, we're wrong," I could follow hotel procedure, which was:

1) Call the police and get a police report. If the incident was documented, it would be easy for the next process...

2) File an incident report. Ultimately, the hotel would not directly reimburse you for your loss--rather, their insurance company would. Do you have a copy of the police report? Yes I do and I gave a copy to the hotel. The incident report? I don't have a copy of the hotel incident report, but I do have a copy of the incident report that was done by the security guard that was on property

Whenever anything happened (ie car break-in, someone fell in the shower, missing money, etc) I always did this. While I couldn't admit fault, I would always tell the customer that all of this info would go to our insurance company and if reimbursment was warranted, they would get it from them.

My suggestion would be to find out who their property manager is. If you can't get anywhere with dealing with the hotel directly, go up the chain of command and contact them. Then again, this is what my job did, and some businesses are a bit backwards, so......

The were in contact with me yesterday...I got a call from the assistant general manager as well as his boss the RVP manager. They both indicated that someone from the Risk Managment Department would be contacting me. However, right now I'm getting all my documentation together..i.e. a list of my my things and my mom's as well as the cost together, because I'm hoping they will follow thru and take care of our loss. I mean the entry was forced, plus the assistant gm told me that just because I slamed the door that didn't guarnteed that the door locked!! I'm like WHAT??? That is sooo crazy to me. I mean isn't it their responsibility to provide a Safe Haven for their guest? So if I close a door it shoulr lock if that's the function of the door right? You know what I mean...this is has been so crazy and to top it off...someone tried to break in the room 3 door down from my room. So something was reall going on...

However, if that is the case why is it not posted (that they are not liable) so all guest can see and make a decision if they want to stay at a hotel that doesn't have to provided a safe comfortable stay for their guest. That is so interesting to me...


Girl..... don't I know! Part of the reason I left the hotel was because I got sick of jerking people around... Now reading all of what you said, I'm fired up--and it isn't even me!!!

To answer your question, "shouldn't hotels provide a safe have to their guests?" the answer (according to them) would be yes and no. They are responsible for doing all they can within reason to keep you safe; however some things they cannot control. For example, several hotel guests where I worked would have car break ins; however, in some of those cases, they left valuables (GPS, laptop, money) in plain sight. At that point, some responsibility could be put on the guest, especially if I told them NOT to leave valuables in plain sight. This case, however, is much different. Like everyone else, I'm pretty sure this was caused by a hotel staffmember since 1) there are very few "master" keys to open all doors, 2) only hotel staff are allowed to use them (front desk, housekeeping, management), 3) staff members usually have to "sign out" a key--what time they used it and for what reason and 4) in order for a paying guest to get a key, they must show photo ID. If the door didn't lock when you slammed it, that's a maintenance issue, not yours, and since someone in housekeeping should have serviced your room they should have reported it.... GUURL, don't get me started! I worked at my job long enough to know when someone's BSing you, and they are. Clearly.

Now I had to do all of this at a midscale hotel, so if this is happening at a high end one, girl I say pull out all the stops!!!!!

Yeah...this is a different case. I heard from the risk management department and they informed me that they would NOT be replacing our things. So I'm going to speak with a lawyer.

I've got to say on a positive note, and focus on getting this taken care of.

AfroVeda....I did win, but the question would be when in the world will I get my products...LOL

Wow KNH! Girl, you had quite the experience! I'm praying that this all works out in your favor. It's hard to believe one has to worry about such things as break ins period- but for them to have not used force? Well, that's a whole other ball game. And a crackhead no less who had the nerve to come back and hang out. Ick! Go after them and make sure they handle it accordingly.

I'm happy for your afroveda score by the way. I'm sure this has overshadowed your win but I know this situation will work out in victory for you too. Hang in there.

You're not alone in how much you care about my products. When I had the situation in my apartment with mold, they wanted me to leave all of them. And I was like nooooooooooo. And my mom was looking at me like I was crazy. But I'd spent hundreds of dollars on that stuff. Pictures, notes, and hair products was all I wanted to take. They could have the rest.

Oh and that story sounds like something out of a movie. A crackhead watching porn WOWWWWW *flava flav voice*

Hey lady, we're thinking about you.
Question - you filed a police report? Did they arrest the person in the room with your keys? This was definitely an inside job and probably happened to others. Big hotel? I can smell the stench all the way in mid-Atlantic! Evil or Very Mad

Even if you haven't filed yet you should. get a copy of the report. The lawyer and the tv station is a great idea. You have received great advice. Good luck!!
