Re: Kea::Curls
Hi Ladies,
Sooo it's still cold here...but its getting better &&& closer to normal. Since I'm in North Florida, we do get a few weeks of winter but if there's anything lower than 50 degrees, i freak out. lol. Well, its 43 degrees outside this morning and I've been figuring out a way to keep my ears/head warm.
Here's what I've come up with so far...
1. my "protective style" = flat twists in front and bantu knots in the back (to the best of my ability)
I tied my silk scarf over it and wore a wool "scully" cap over it for one day (no pictures, sorry). but didn't really like the look too much. The next day, i took my hair out & did a puff...i wanted to be "cute" for classes:
BUT with all the wind, my ears & scalp were F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G!!!
So this morning, I was determined to figure out a warm look that didn't copromise my "look".
First, I tried a modified puff: I tied a silk scarf around the perimeter of my head, then covered this up with a wool scarf (that was also pulled over my ears) and left the top of my puff exposed.
For some reason, this felt a little to Ms. Cleo/fortune teller for me, so i kept going...
I tied my hair down under a do-rag (sp?), wrapped my wool winter scarf around my entire head + ears....and put on my hat over that. Then I tied the remained of the scarf around my neck. I have a lab class outside for two hours today, so hopefully this will keep me warm

Re: Kea::Curls
all those styles look really cute! I like your curly puff, you've inspired me to wear my hair like that this weekend!
I'm really late on the fro-hawk and bro comments (sry) but I loved how shiny and healthy it looked. Unfortunately for your brothers, it goes to show how ignorant people can be (without much fault to their own) I'm glad your brother apologized. I have light skinned siblings, particularly my brothers and my dad is somewhat light. I hope that since my brothers are little they will learn from an early age what beauty really is...
anyway, happy new year!

I'm pretty late but it's so unfortunate you had to deal with the whole "good hair" saga with your family. On a positive note, your father prefers natural hair! That should send a message to the rest of the family...especially your STEPMOTHER!

Your hair grows fast!! I love your puff and flat twists and Bantu knots. Like sweetdrk1 wrote, very creative.
Combs may not hold in your hair when doing frowhawk. I like that you didn't use a brush to slick back your hair.
Hope you the best this semester.

Hello Ladies,
GOOD NEWS
i finally did it!!! i put in some (( chunky )) two strand twists....and :: they :: actually :: stayed!!!
I mean, they're not coming "undone"
and
there's only minimal "unraveling"
I almost don't even care how the twist out turns out, i'm just so happy that they're in
well....maybe that's going a little too far. lol. I DO care how the twist out will look. Here's to crossing my fingers for tomorrow morning

Re: Kea::Curls
Your twists look like they will make for a great twist out. What did you use to twist with? Do you know why your ends did not unravel?
Re: Kea::Curls
Giant leap for kea and her curls, YAY... I would like to know how you got the ends to hold (not unravel). I need to work on that . Can't wait for the twistout.

Re: Kea::Curls
Hi everyone
Sorry I ran off without dishing the :: juicy :: details. lol.
I used Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In for my twists. I have TONS of it, which I haven't been using (I'm wary of it containing dimethicone). But so far, so good! In the long run, I still will be looking for a more natural alternative...
I've been racking my brain over and over again...about why my twists were unraveling & my conclusion is that it's all related to the healthiness of my ends.
1. For as long as I could remember, I have ALWAYS had problems with dry, poofy, ends. Not necessarily split ends...but just FRIZZY & bigger than the rest of my hair. Since my BC, EVOO and shea butter have been improving this some.
However, when Sweetdrk brought up the topic about " sealing" on her BNB page...it made me realize that I have not been doing it correctly!!! I usually just slather the EVOO all over, followed quickly by shea butter. So, this previous week, I very intentionally parted off my hair into sections and scrunched A LOT of shea butter onto my ends. I found out that my hair loves it & needs A LOT of it! For the first time in years...my ends are actually smooth & moist !!!
2. Ok, for the second contributing factor:
*** Chrs and Lynnie got me thinking about my hair's need for protein, so I did a treatment this past weekend. I used Bioinfusion Organics Strengthen & Repair Conditioner (from Walgreens), which contains Wheat Protein, Wheat Amino Acids & Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein. I also added one raw egg to it, and left it in my hair (without heat for 1 hour). I thought about using Mayo, too...but the idea of the smell freaked me out.
Soooo overall, I think that both of these helped to allow my ends to curl up on themselves more smoothly = the twists did not unravel
That is all for now
I will be revealing the 1st & 2nd day hair pics tomorrow sometime...
Adios!
