She walks him to the door and takes a deep breath. Who would have thought that a few inches of hair (or therefore the lack of it) would turn her whole life upside down within a day?

Chanel went to her mom's room feeling a little down. Breaking up is really hard to do when you care about someone, and she never thought that she would break-up with her boyfriend over her hair of all things!!!

Her mom sat her down and talked to her about relationships, and taking this time to embrace who she is from the inside out!! Chanel hugged her mom, and turned in for the night.

The next morning Chanel woke up, and she felt great!! She replayed the events from yesterday over in her mind. She was excited, but yet a little anxious about her date today.......and then her cell phone rang!! She looked at the display and it was.....

Her new date....

She was excited.. Hello she said hello beautiful he responded.. Those comments made her feel so warm and excited inside.. Are we still on for tonight... she replied of course I am and then he replied I have a special suprise for you so where we are going I won't tell you until we get there. She responded....

"I'll be ready around 6." He replied, "I'll be there to pick you up then and I'm really looking forward to seeing you sport your new look." They hung up and she proceeded to get ready for her date. "Mom!" she yelled, "I need your help. I want my curls to pop for my date. I read that I could co-wash it, which would make my hair really soft, and follow-up with some gel to define my curls. Will you wash my hair really quick for me please?" So they proceeded into the kitchen to co-wash Channel's hair and her father passed by the kitchen door. He sat down at the kitchen table and said ...

"What are you two doin' in that sink? And why does it reek of conditioner?"

Hush you ole man replied her mom.. You act like you never smelled conditioner b4. The father replied well all of this is still new to me and you never washed your hair here b4 you always got it done at the shop and I assume Channel always washed her hair in the shower. I would love to see the finished results Channel. What's the big fuss anyway why are you washing her hair?

"I have a date, Dad." "A date with whom? I have met this date and where is he planning to take you?"

Dad continued with a scowl on his face. "He got a job? He got an education? He live with his mother? Is he one of those pretty boys who get his eyebrows done?"

"Will he pick you up here?" "I want to have a word with him".

she replied, "no...he ask me to meet him up the street at the gas station at 8 o'clock"

Dad only continued. "Why the gas station? At night? Why can't he come to the house? He hidin' something? He a dealer? One of these pants saggin' wanna be thugs?? Do I have to get the sawed off out the closet or what?"

"No Dad, I'm teasing with you. He's coming by to pick me up around 6. He's a very nice guy ... a school mate. I think you and Mom will like him. Besides, it's just an innocent outing. It's not like he has proposed .... gees." . Channel and her mom finished up washing her hair and then applied a little gel. She turned to look in the mirror and ....

She couldn't believe her eyes, her hair looked great. Her beautiful natural curls were popping and shining like no other. Her eyes began to water a little when her mother touched her shoulder and said, "You look beautiful babygirl, now wipe your face and hurry up and get ready for your date " Channel got up, gave her mom a tight hug and rushed upstairs to get dressed for her big date. As she laid ALL her clothes on the bed she thought...

"this is going to be the best date ever! Daddy better not scare him away." Suddenly...

....she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror and smiled and said, "damn, I look good."

With that in mind, she grabbed her cell phone " Maya, this is me, Channel. My hair is flyy, but I do not know what to wear. Come over asap, please because I really need you here, girl"

Her friend rushes over and they scramble through her closet to, putting together a fly outfit with banging accessories to match. "Ok, how do I look?" "Fabulous!" says Maya. There was a knock at the door and her father answered. "Hello Sir, I'm Xavier." Her father glared at the boy.. "So, you are the young man that's taking my daughter out.
