Mochamoments- Flat Twists Results-Video
Hi Ladies,
Let me first say what an inspiration the ladies on this forum and the Youtube world have been to me. Thanks!
My journey to become natural began after I began to eat healthier. I am a vegan now and as I thought about it, why spend time eating healthy and then put unhealthy chemicals in my hair?
When I was relaxed, I got perms every 12 weeks and so I decided to see if I could go longer in between. In April of 2008 I got my last relaxer. I bought a CHI and we became best friends. I never had any intention to where my hair curly. I just knew I couldn't keep putting those chemicals on my hair. I asked my stylist to cut off the relaxed ends as my new growth came, and he agreed. The more my new growth came in, The more I wanted to see what it looked like and of course you can't really tell when the relaxed ends in the way! LOL
My hairstylist didn't know much about natural hair except that you could blow it out and flat iron it so I moved to a new stylist whose hair was natural. She cut the last of my relaxed ends off in April of 2009.
My family HATED my hair. Even my church family tripped on me. My Dad was the only one that really supported me. He feels like I should do whatever I want to with my hair. I agree wholeheartedly.
I continued to flat iron not knowing that the heat could damage my ends and so in October of 2009, I had to get more ends cut off. I decided then that I would embrace my curls and learn how to care for them. I have no idea how I found out that there were people on Youtube that were documenting their hair journeys, but I'm so thankful that I did.
Yesterday I went to get my hair straigtened so I could get my ends trimmed and I absolutely did NOT like having my hair straight. When I got home my son said "Mommy, what did you do to your hair? I don't like it!" LOL

I'm in love with my curls and look forward to the journey ahead!

Re: Mochamoments- Dry Flat Twists-Can't get my pics to post. :(
This weekend I went camping. Friday I co-washed and scrunched (accordian method). Saturday and Sunday, I ran let the water run over my hair while I was in the shower and scrunched again. I let my hair air dry and voila, an effortless style.
This morning I co-washed again and tried the same method. I have noticed that the more times I try it, the more slip I get and it seems like I get less shrinkage each time as well. I will post pictures after it dries.
Have any of you tried this method?

Hi there! I'm new to the board too, but noticed you are in Austin! So I had to stop in. I'm discovering that me going natural, really natural, I have a lot to learn. I've never heard of the Accordian method, but your pictures are great. I am a frequent wash and goer and formerly (as in just stopped last week) a constant Chi user so my ends are suffering. I go tomorrow for a cut for some sort of shape. My hair resembles a triangle right about now. lol Anyway, post more pictures and what you use. I'd like to try it soon. Thanks!

Yes I've been in Austin for almost 8 years now. What about you? I will be sure to post pictures of what I use and take more pictures of my hair. I had a really good camera that broke and so I bought a little cheap camera. NOT a good purchase! I hate taking pictures now, because I can never seem to get them to come out right.
Where do you go to get your hair cut. I got my last trim from Janiece in Round Rock at the Courtyard Salon.

Are you from Texas? My maiden name is Stokes. I'm orginally from Pensacola.

Here are a few pics on second day hair. I did not add any additional product. I just ran water over my hair in the shower and scrunched.
