♥ tiashauntee ♥
Growing up my family didn't have a lot of money for splurging, especially for hair care. As a result, I never once got a relaxer. When I reached the age when most young girls would get relaxers, I got a press-n-curl. From that point up until I graduated from college I would wear a press-n-curl and take precautions to keep people from seeing my curls. I was ashamed of my hair.
Then a few months after I graduated from North Carolina Central University (EAGLE PRIDE!) I met the man that would eventually become my husband . He saw my hair one day after I washed it and encouraged me to wear it curly. He has consistently been my biggest source of encouragement and my greatest motivator.
Since embracing my curls I began to feel like myself and less like a guest in my body. I am happy with myself, my appearance, and finally in my life experienced what it feels like to have high self esteem.

Gotta love a man who loves you for you! Congrats on having a great husband, beautiful hair, and HIGH SELF ESTEEM!
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Your hubby sounds awesome! Don't you love it when a man embraces the real you? My hubby was the exact same way and my biggest supporter of me going natural.

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
My journey to better hair care came when one of my friends (relaxed) that actually likes my hair suggested that I do a braidout. I had no idea what she was talking about :?: but I didn't want to appear dumb so I went home to Google it. I was so shocked at the wealth of information about natural hair care that was online . I always thought that natural hair was disregarded, I mean I never knew anyone like me. Unless they were in hiding wearing a press-n-curl like I was. I am beyond grateful for all the sites like CurlyNikki.com and others. This has truly been a lifesaver for my hair. There is no telling where I would be right now had I not learned (and still learning) how to care for my hair.
Sometime last week I read about a technique called an oil rinse and it sounded tempting. I usually try to shy away from trying too many techniques on my hair but this one was calling me. So yesterday I got all the materials together and gave it a shot. I LOVE it. My hair was so soft, easy to detangle, and shiny. I put in some two strand twists while my hair was still damp and I didn't even use any other products on my hair. I am just getting over a cold and its chilly here in NC so I am wearing a hat today. However, I am very happy with what's underneath my hat.
Sidenote: I consider hats to be a part of my hairstyle repertoire

I don't have pics of the oil rinse because ALL the millions of batteries I have in the house were dead
But I did blog about it: http://tiashauntee.blogspot.com/2009/11/oil-rinse.html
This will not be my last time doing so I will have pics of the next go round
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥

Aw, I loved your hair story. That's so great that you found someone to support you like that.
And that last pic with your hat - I'm not really excited to wear a hat, but seeing that makes me want to have more fun with it.

@bindymac08, some days hats are my hair saving grace. I have worn a plastic cap under them so that I can deep condition all day. When I don't have time to revive a style...no one knows, LOL. But know I just really like to wear them. I never worn them before I started embracing my naturalness.
@everyone, I found a pic on my BB of my hair after the oil rinse

I'm gonna try the Henna, I've been curious about it. I love wearing hats, just be sure to either line the hat or wear a stain bonnet underneath
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Most of them are lined except my baseball caps. I saw a really cute hat the other day at the store and I didn't get it. I bet its gone by now. Let me know how the henna works
