Ok so the emoticon to the left says it ALL...on 12/29/09 at about
8:00pm, I was sitting on my couch with my boyfriend (who is also
natural-he has locs) and playing through the final days of my twistout
hawk. As I ran my hair through my dry, brittle and in some places even
STRAIGHT edges, I got sick to my stomach. I knew that something needed
to change!
I had been wearing a relaxer ever since the age of about 11 so that is
all that I knew of. When I made the decision to not get another relaxer
is was out of the joy of finding a nice dominican salon who does
WONDERFUL blow outs! To my demise, this is what set me back for really
embracing my curls. I wanted to stay sleek and straight and have the
bragging rights of not having a perm, just plain oh natural. The
reality was yes while I was natural, I was ruining my hair with the
heat, causing way to much damage. It wasn't until I found Curly Nikki's
blog along with Naturalchica.com that I felt liberated to embrace my
natural coils. I wanted to be natural when I wanted to be. When it was
convenient for me. Little did I know about the revelation I would have
when I came across the social network NaturalSunshine.ning.com. It was
there that I was able to find amazing natural beauties and came across
CurlyNikki.com. I haven't been on the forum for long, but I am
definitely addicted now!
Now to the excited emoticon at the top of the screen! LOL. While I was
playing in my hair taking down the twists from my hawk, I new that I
wanted that dead and limp hair gone. I had been sharing that I wanted
to cut three inched off in a couple of days and I was going to head to
a local salon to tell them what I wanted. Not wanting to wait any
longer and deal with the weird stares form the stylist, I went ahead
and did it myself. Besides it would be a great culminating experience
for me and my hair! At approximately 11:03pm I took the scissor to my
head and did a layer chop of three inched all over and boy did the end
result feel great. I guess this is a great time to enter the BnB
challenge and this is truly a new beginning for me. I will be heading
to the Vitamin Shoppe on Thursday (payday he he he) and picking up some
coconut oil, Aubrey Organic Honeysuckle Rose Conditioner. I will head
to CVS to pick up the Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner for my co-wash
and Hello Hydration for my leave-in. Once I get some shea butter it
will become my sealant. Stay tuned folks...my journey has begun!
P.S. See below for pics of the before and after BC as well as my flat twist put in my hair last night

@tiashauntee - I love your texture..your twistout should come out nice. How do you usually wear it?

Usually I have it all going back or with a part down the middle. But now I want the round full effect.

@asiaha - Thank you so much hun!
@Intellegientbeauty..I only transitioned for two year and I wouldn't change it for the world. I say this because if it weren't for the struggles that I acquired with trying to do natural hair on straight ends, I would not have been so eager to do it. The two years gave me struggle that I will never turn my back on...it is a part of my journey story and my liberation

Day 2 of my challenge - Product Run
Day 2 week 1
Hello CNers
So last night a lot of things went through my mind as I thought about how to better take care of my hair. In the midst of writing in my new Hair Journey blog "http://mynaturalme.blogspot.com", (make sure you check it out!) I thought to myself "Self, I can definitely do a product run in the early afternoon to get my fix of journey searching today". So that is exactly what I did..I read a lot of what other people were using and found as good products and make a list of my own. My first stop was CVS and here is what I got:
Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner - as my leave in (recommended by my hair BS)
Herbal Essence Totally Twisted - to try out as a curl enhancer (Nikki has talked about it in her blog a couple of types)
Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo - as my sulfate free shampoo ( I will be trying the low poo method only using when I need a good wash from a lot of product build up. Clarifying rinses will be used in between if needed for quick cleans)
V05 Moisturizing conditioner - as my co wash (I'm not thrilled about the smell but it will do for now)
My NEXT stop will be the Vitamin Shoppe for come coconut Oil and my Aubry's Honeysuckle Rose deep conditioner. Yall pray that I don't LOSE MY MIND in this store...I'm gonna try to be in and out. We will see how that goes!
