Post by Curly Film Chick 13th January 2010, 3:16 pm

thanks for the compliments everyone! you really are encouraging me!

Nothing really new to report with my hair. I've been sporting wavy twists by braiding my hair at night and sealing it with my burts bees (my favorite winter products) and I'll show pics of that when I can.

Lately I've been focusing on my younger sister's hair. She has been natural her whole life as well and came to that same crisis of wanting to perm, but I educated her about that. She's going into her second semester of college but she's been staying with me for the break and we've been working on her hair. She is really interested in learning to care for her hair naturally and now I have someone else to learn with...yay!

She wanted her hair straightened but I told her I wanted to minimize the heat damage. So we clarified with baking soda, acv and deep conditioned and set in rollers. The next day I flat ironed on LOW (my thingy goes up to 10 but I did it at level 4 or 5) using a heat protectant from nexxus and it came out really nice. She enjoys it. She's about to leave for school next week so she wants me to braid her hair in box braids and do a no-heat challenge. I'm also going to clip her ends. She's inspired to grow her hair out long and healthy and altho her and I do not have the same hair (not even remotely similar even though we have the same parents) and she used to be jealous of my hair, I'm so excited she's excepting her own coils!!

Happy MLK day!

okay so here's what I realize about my twists: they won't stay in for more than a week (plus a day or two) My hair laughs at styles lasting more than a week and twists are no exception. Not a problem. I like styling my hair and a week isnt that bad. But just so you get the idea:

Curly Film Chick - Page 5 Img00412

Curly Film Chick - Page 5 Img00413

It's my ends that unravel, or sometimes the middle of the twists. So off I go to do my routine! I plan to rollerset my hair because I want to practice with that. I'll determine whether I leave it like that or style it by the way it comes out tomorrow.

If you ever get tired of doing your hair and want twists, you can use rods to set them. You can then wear them tight the first week by pincurling or curling each night. The second week, you can undo some of them. I plan to do this in March.

I think I might try pin-curling. I saw the tutorial tiashauntee did on her blog for you and I might do that to my twists next time.

Yesterday I did some stuff to my hair because I wanted to experiment more. I'm still playing with the Avocado Butter and yesterday I added coconut milk, olive oil and tea tree oil to it and DC...wow it was amazing. When I rinsed out my hair felt so nice and moist. That has been the best mixture so far.

So I put my hair in rollers to stretch but I seriously did not want to sleep with those rollers. It was about 80% dry and I decided to take them out and give myself a blow out...not to be really straight tho. It was a spontaneous thing. Haven't used heat of any sort since may 2009, and since I had to trim my hair a lot to get rid of the heat damage. but i braided it and put rods on the ends:

I'm going to also try pin curling my hair for the first time tonight, thanks to tiashauntee's tutorial

Curly Film Chick - Page 5 Empty Hair

Post by Curly Film Chick 25th January 2010, 1:05 pm

So I wanted to straighten my hair this weekend and used tiashauntee's method for the roller set. The last time I did a rollerset my roots weren't all that great so I wanted to try it:

Curly Film Chick - Page 5 -712

Curly Film Chick - Page 5 -812

I let it air dry and actually went to sleep in them (how awful that was but I don't have a hooded dryer) and then saturday I used my flat iron on very low:

Curly Film Chick - Page 5 -415

I like this method because I didn't have to use so much heat. I have more pics of it on my blog if anyone is interested. Tomorrow I will post my pin curls...
