I haven't washed the oil out, I just leave it in. Last night I did it with EVCO and my ends are feeling a little better. I'm not going to do it with conditioner unless I bun or hide the ends somehow.

Thanks Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Icon_biggrin I'm actually not into hair typing so I honestly couldn't tell you. But I can tell you that I have medium strands (as in not fine or thick) and I have a lot of dense curls.

This is the first time I've commented on your blog here, but I have been looking at your styles and I love it. I am going to attempt that braid and curl you did in your avatar.

I love the bounciness of your hair.

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Empty Building my regimen pt. 1

Post by Curly Film Chick 16th December 2009, 1:11 pm

okay. So I'm trying to get a solid regimen for the winter season. Here's what I got so far:

Cleansing:
- Weekly AVC rinse - I thought that maybe this would be bad for my hair doing it so often but its not bothering me so far. I also wanna try an herbal AVC rinse (any suggestions for herbs?)
- Monthly (or every six weeks) clarification with Baking soda and v05 Conditioner

Deep Condition (alternating with my choices)
- AOHSR w/honey and EVCO - weekly
- Black Strap Molasses w Coconut Oil - weekly
- Banana/coconut milk/honey/tea tree oil - every 6 weeks or so

Conditioner (co-wash rinse out, detangle)
- HE Hello Hydration/Totally Twisted (every rinse)

Stylers
- HE Totally Twisted
- DevaCare Set it Free

Styles
- Braid-outs
- Bantu knot outs
- Braid and Curls
-Twists

I want to try some more stuff, by Karen's Body, Kinky-Curly, Hair Rules, more Deva Products, Oyin, and Jane Carter Solutions (not their deep conditioner)

That's all folks Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Icon_cool Will be updating this list every so often.

What do you hope to gain or prevent by adding herbs? You can check out mountainroseherbs.com and look up all the different herbs.

Deep Condition
- Black Strap Molasses w Coconut Oil - weekly - I have some BSM in my fridge. How do you use it, please share your recipe.

For the AVC rinse I read some naturals try it adding oils and herbs for scent or for a certain treatment for their hair (like if someone has dandruff, severe dryness)

As for the molasses with coconut oil, I use half a cup of molasses and 1-2 tablespoons of coconut oil. My strands were stronger and shiny. I have to do another treatment this weekend, haven't done one in a while.

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Empty Bagging method update

Post by Curly Film Chick 17th December 2009, 1:09 pm

Ok so far, I notice a slight difference. I'm starting to notice tha I have small knots on the ends of some sections of my hair, but I do notice the parts that are particularly smoother. Might have to get some shears to get the knots out. I think that I am going to do his method for another week after this because I am really interested in these ends here lol.

I might switch it up with oils. I'm using evco right now, but I'd like to mix I with evoo (I just had to sneak and use that tho because my honey gets annoyed that I use HIS evoo he uses to cook lol)

I have been noticing those darn fairy knots too. I need to do like you and use shears and stop ripping them out. (shame on me)

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Empty Weekend hair plans

Post by Curly Film Chick 18th December 2009, 12:52 pm

Now that classes are over I don't feel so guilty spending my time nursing my hair. I like the bagging method its really helping my ends. Now I'm tryin to figure out how to style my hair fo the week. Maybe a braid out? Since I still want to bag the ends I might resolve to that.

Here is what I plan...

Clarify my hair (baking soda with v05, followed by avc rinse, I feel build up from a product used this week ugh)

deepcondotion with molasses and evco to stenghen my strands and add moisture (one hour)

condtion with aveda dry remedy masque (leave on for two min)

style with totally twisted, set it free, and castor oil, set on rollers to stretch

let's see if I actually follow this lol

@sweetdrk1 - fairy knots are those knots that are on an individual strand of hair. They are called fairy knots because people are really confused as to how they could've gotten there Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Icon_cool

So I pretty much followed my hair plans, except the molasses treatment because I couldn't really deal with the mess. I rollerset my hair to stretch it out, but I haven't really styled it yet. I'm debating whether to do a bantu-knot out or a braid out, hmmm....

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Empty A Sudden Decision

Post by Curly Film Chick 22nd December 2009, 12:10 pm

So last week I did the bagging to see if I could save my ends. But after I did my regimen this weekend and was touching my hair, I realized that I did not like the way my hair felt because of my ends. So yesterday after doing my take-home final, I snipped my ends. I had no choice. I took off between 1/4-1/2 an inch, maybe more in some places. I was tired of running my hands through my hair and hearing snaps and crackles!

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 -411

Although I did lose some length, I'm happy that I can run my hands through my hair without hearing any sounds! It feels great. I just have to start over and take care of my ends this time around, really paying attention to them. I'm really liking the way it feels though.

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Empty Much better!

Post by Curly Film Chick 23rd December 2009, 12:03 pm

Since snipping my haggard ends, I did a tnc on damp hair and it came out better than ever. My ends are smooth and curled, and they aren't frizzy. I gently ran my fingers through my hair and it felt awesome. So my "sudden decision" was totally worth it. I'm happy today Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Icon_biggrin

Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Empty My Hair Story (as brief as possible)

Post by Curly Film Chick 23rd December 2009, 5:02 pm

thanks everyone, smooth ends are great.

You knw, I just realized that I did not properly introduce myself. I think I should give a little background on my hair story...

So I'm the Curly Film Chick, been natural my whole life. In the spring of 2009 however, I almost got a relaxer because I honestly did not know what to do with all the hair on my head. I thought it was too much work and nothing was working for me. There were two things that kept me natural: my sisters and my honey. My 11 year old sister really wanted her hair straightened because she said her curls were ugly. Well I wanted to smack her...she has "loose" curls that society would probably accept so what the hell was her problem? My dad was looking to me saying that I should tell my sister her hair is beautiful and that I should show her how to take care of her hair (he has no idea and his wife has straight hair so they have no idea). He wanted me to braid it and keep it curly, reminding her she was pretty so that she wouldn't have self-esteem issues.

I always knew I had self-esteem issues and here I was thinking about relaxing and I felt a little guilty. But I decided her and I didn't have the same hair type so it was okay for her, but not for me. And just as I was asking my friend to help me get a relaxer, my honey overheard and was like hell no, and snapped me back to reality. I was surprised he cared or understood...after all he's hispanic and also has "acceptable" curls. But he was like I need to seriously learn to love my hair and that it wouldn't be so hard if I just stopped being lazy and took care of it (yeah he was harsh, but I needed that). So low and behold I started researching like crazy. And the first site I came across was this one...so thanks to the blogs I escaped getting the creamy crack and learned to love everything about myself in the process. I'm still really shy about taking pics, but I'm slowly getting use to it and really loving my hair and myself. I don't have serious self esteem issues anymore, even on a "bad" hair day. It inspired me to make a short film about a girl with self esteem issues that you can look at. (I even make an appearance in it Curly Film Chick - Page 2 Icon_biggrin ) I wrote, directed and edited it.
