Curly Film Chick
I wish I would've known about the wonders of clarifying with baking soda and conditioner along with an Apple cider vinegar rinse earlier. I gave it a try yesterday after realizing how sticky and gross my hair has been lately and it worked wonders! My hair is clean, feels light and bouncy. There will be no need for me to have shampoo anymore! I'm so happy with the way my hair feels today I can't even stand it!
Re: Curly Film Chick
Hi
Beautiful, shiny hair in the avatar! Is that a twist out?
I just did my first ACV rinse this weekend !!! And I have already noticed that my FRIZZ has been cut down completely (so far, lol). I've been thinking about experimenting with baking soda when the times comes...and was wondering if you ACV/baking soda treat in the same day, or is it better to do them separate?

Re: Curly Film Chick
hey keacurls,
First I did the baking soda and then did the rinse. I read that if you use baking soda w/ conditioner its important to follow up with an acv rinse to close the cuticle. So I did both...I feel like the baking soda mixture got my hair and scalp clean and the acv made my hair smooth and shiny. I'm really gushing over the process right now haha...
and in my avatar its a 2nd day bantu knot out, first time I was trying it out. thanks for the compliment...your curls look so soft!

Re: Curly Film Chick
well, now I just changed my avatar, its a braid out now. I will post tomorrow how I did that.
Re: Curly Film Chick
I have done the baking soda and acv rinse before as well. Not sure if the baking soda did it but afterwards I had a lot of frizz on the top and one side of my head. So the following week I left out the baking soda and just did the acv rinse and the results were great! Shiny bouncy curls!
Re: Curly Film Chick
good to know! i do not actually plan on doing the baking soda treatment until i need to. i don't seem to have any build-up as of now & i heard that if you clarify with it "unnecessarily," then it will begin to strip away @ the hair. see you later
Styling
Good morning curlies!
Well, I think I agree that the avc rinse is good for reducing frizz. I have second day hair and it still feels great. The next time I clarify (which I hope will only be once a month) I will see what happens when I skip out on the baking soda, altho the combo worked really well.
Anyway, to achieve my braidout this week I styled on wet hair. I usually prefer to style on "damp." But I had plenty of time to dry so I thought why not. I sectioned my hair into fours, worked EVCO through each section. Then added HHTT and SIF to each braid and sealed with Castor oil. Added rollers on the end to stretch:
When I took it out, my hair was only slightly damp, but 98% dry. My results was shiny, bouncy, movable hair and I'm really feeling it!
I pulled it back yesterday because it was windy...
And there we have it!

Second Day Hair = new confidence
I was really happy again with my hair yesterday. Thought I should share:
I think this is good for me. I've never been a fan of taking pics of my hair (let alone myself) but I think I'm going to more often. It's a real confidence booster! Especially since I'm having a long week. Last week of classes. Pretty much going to be in bed between 1-2am each night
Today since its pouring out I just plaited my hair in two, tied with silver scounchies on the end.

I, too, shied away from cameras. Once I became a curly, I take a LOT of pictures. I seem to have a newfound confidence. Embrace it and continue to take pictures. Your style came out nicely!
Re: Curly Film Chick
At the moment I'm actually going back and forth with myself as to whether or not I should get my hair straightened in January.
I haven't had my hair straightened since June 09. I decided that my summer would be spent learning about my hair. It's grown healthier and longer since then and I'm happy about it and want to do a length check a switch the hair up.
What's holding me back is that i'm terrified of heat damage and I'm real lazy to straighten my hair. Not sure what I'm going to do as of yet...

Results of a Braid and Curl
Okay so I decided to experiment with a braid and curl on Wednesday. I divided my hair in four sections, sprayed each section with water and and EVCO. Then parted for a braid, using HE TT, SIF and braided, but left about 1/4 of the braid out and added Mixed Chicks Leave-In Conditioner to the end and rolled (actually I used my fiance's HIS Mixed made by Mixed Chicks but its more or less the same formula.)
Then yesterday it came out nice, and I pinned it to the side but I had a very busy day yesterday and totally forgot to take pics But this is how it looks today:
I think I might redo this for my friend's bday party this weekend. So far I like the mixed chicks for the hold. I tried this product before over the summer I didn't like it but I think its because I didn't know how to use it. This time it did a really great job. Not sure if I'm a fan of the ingredients tho.

Have you thought about a rollerset to straighten hair? If it is not as straight as you like you can do a Saran wrap after. Tiashauntee in the BnB Challenge had great results after a rollerset. Another option is to let your hair air dry then flat iron it on low.
I cannot recall where I read this but someone also suggested ponytail rollersets.

I was actually reading up on doing a rollerset and then flat iron like you suggested. I just have to practice with roller setting because I kinda suck at it.
Re: Curly Film Chick

Re: Curly Film Chick
Your braidouts look pretty. My hair doesn't do well with braid outs for some reason. I may have to try a rollerset tonight. I'm curious about my length but I don't know if I have the patience to tackle the smoothing hair on teh roller.
Re: Curly Film Chick
i am scared of heat now, too. when i'm @ the stage where I want to do a length check (one day over the rainbow, lol)...i think i will choose the roller setting option.
Mixing!
yesterday I did a deep condition with AOHSR mixed with evco and honey and wow was it wonderful. I left it on my hair for 45 to an hour and when I rinsed it out, it felt great! I'm adding this to my routine for sure. So far I'm down with AVC rinses and this. I'm going to continue to build a regimen so that I can have it on lock by 2010!
Babying my ends
So last night I tried the "bagging method" but only on my ends. The reason why is that I'm trying to see if my ends are just dry or if I need a trim. I trimmed my hair in September (or early Oct, I wrote it down somewhere) and took about 1/4 of an inch off.
I don't really want to trim it again, but I will if I have to. So I braided my hair and added AOHSR mixed with EVOO on the ends and covered it with sandwich bags. My regret is using the AOHSR because styling with conditioner makes it wet and that's not what I wanted. I'm going to try just sealing with oil and bag it. I'm going to do this for a week and see then access.

I will be checking back for your results because I am wondering the same thing about my ends. I have not trimmed since I BC'd in August.

Re: Curly Film Chick
when you do bagging, do you wash the oil out before you style? Or just let it dry & leave it in...?
Re: Curly Film Chick
