Hey Soror! elephant
I hate when people offer up their unwanted comments and opinions! I always wanna say, "Didn't your mama tell you if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all?"

Me too, Im anxious to undo the twist now. But I want to wait until closer to Christmas. Im trying not to wash my hair until next weekend. So I'll probably untwist them Wedneday or Thursday which means they'll be twisted for a week. They'll definitely be nice and set by then LOL.

Ive been spraying them with my aloe gro every day. So that when I untwist them they wont be dry. I hope thats okay, as Ive never noticed if people do anything to their twist prior to untwisting.

Using aloe grow sounds good for your twists. How often do you put it on? I finally watched how to make aloe grow. I plan to get the essential oils after the new year.

Ive been spraying on my hair and scalp every other day. I don't know if it'll make my hair grow in some miraculous way but it seems to be extremely moisturizing, and I love the way it smells.

What's in Aloe Grow? Is it a homemade product?

:-) I think Tiashaunte posted a link of a girl on you tube who makes it.
Aloe Grow
I dont know if it does anything miraculous to the hair but the ingredients are good and moisturizing.

I used: aloe vera gel (whole leaf), water, peppermint (EO), eucalyptus (EO), rosemary (EO) and clary sage (EO). Im debating adding an oil such as olive oil to my next batch but we'll see.

Do you have any tips when purchasing aloe vera leaves? I have seen them in a local grocery store.

Unfortunately I don't have any tips. I just buy the gel from whole foods or you can get it from a store like vitamin shoppe. The gel from the store works well for me but if you try it from the plant let me know how u like it.

I am probably going to do my twist out Christmas day, I hope it comes out well. I will be sure to post pics (cute it not).

You can try a mix of aloe vera gel, tea tree EO, peppermint EO and/or neem oil. Include at least one of the oils and shake until mixed. I would use no more than a couple of drops of EO to an ounce of the gel. If it does not seem to work, add a drop or two more. If you add too much, you may get irritated.

Another option is a brown sugar scrub. You can add a tablespoon of brown sugar to 1/4 c of your favorite conditioner (the thinner the better). Massage it into your scalp and rinse after a couple of minutes. HTH

Thanks, I use something similar with my aloe grow, I use those ingredients mixed with about maybe one cup of water and omit the neem. What is neem oil and is readily found at Whole Foods?

The brown sugar scrubs sounds great. I'll definitely give that a try and report back on the results.

Neem oil is made from an herb commonly used in Ayurvedic products. Neem oil is known to help with itchy scalp and other skin conditions. Be warned neem oil smells to high heaven so open it close to a window or outside. I have only been to Whole Foods once to get money for gelato (store was across the street and only took cash).

Adiaha's Natural Hair Journey - Page 3 Empty Re: Adiaha's Natural Hair Journey

Post by adiaha 28th December 2009, 3:23 pm

So my twist out is holding up just fine, but I really want to wear it for about a week which would put me at two weeks between washes. I think in the future I'll be washing weekly, at least until I get a handle on my dry scalp.

So the PJ in me had to order some more products (that I don't need). I had to order my books from Amazon for the spring semester and I had some Vatika oil on my wish list so why not combine the shipping charges and order the Vatika oil. (Somebody stop me). Ive heard so many good things about it that I had to check it out but with all that I already have how do I even fit it into my regimen. I also bought some Dr. Bonner peppermint castile soap, but thats not really a PJ thing because Ive used that soap since I was a kid and it was way cheaper on Amazon than what I typically pay at Whole Foods.

I have some Vatika oil that I haven't used since I've been natural. I'm on a personal "no buy" challenge, so I'm sure it'll get used in the very near future.
