Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
What I've unfortunately learned about my twists are that they hold moisture much better in my hair than my coil style. This is unfortunate, because it takes my FOREVER to do these small twist...ugh!!! Nevertheless, I will do them for the benefit of my hair. I can tell that when my hair grows my twist outs are gonna be HOTT
Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
Yes! your twist will be HOTT. I know the time going into them can be a bit much but the payoff is worth it. Ensamble a repertoire of styles that you can use to rock your twist!!

Thanks girl!!! I have to look around for some twa styles, I'm tired of everyone doing the same thing.
Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
I have a confession....MY NAME IS EDEN AND I'M A HAND IN HAIRAHOLIC.
It's only been 1 day since my twist out and I already want to play in my hair: wash it, massage it, twirl it, pull it, rub it, twist it, style it, moisturize it, etc. etc. etc......
WHY DOES MY HAIR HAVE TO FEEL SO GOOD?????

Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
As much as I love shea butter in my hair, a problem has come up. My hair looks rather dull. Does shea butter do this for any of you??? What do you use on your hair so that it has an element of shine? I know that my hair won't be glowing, but it looks so ashy right now and I'm not feeling it. I've tried coconut oil, but that doesn't help. It only makes it oily.
Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
hmmmm...have u tried mixing the coconut with the shea? like making ur own mixture? or even taking a little shea and emulsify it in ur hand with an oil...it helps alot

Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
Hey Eden!! I checked out your fotki and I learned we have a few things in common. I transitioned 4 months and self BC'd too only that was my plan all along. I love your avatar pic!!!
As for your twist, they look good. You should check out my first set of twist (fotki). HOT MESS and wore them out just as proud. LOL!! It use to take me 2 and half or 3 hours to twist my hair. Now that my hair is longer, you would think it would take longer but I've gotten faster at it. It only takes me 2 hours. So practice, practice, practice. Your hands want to touch your hair anyway.
As for your shea butter issue, how often are you using it? Maybe you should use it less frequently. Are you using shea butter only? I mix my shea butter with coconut oil, jojoba oil, vitamin E oil (preservative) and lemongrass and lavender essential oil and whipped it up with my hand mixer. It is light and fluffy like whip cream. I am not an experience by any means so I hope someone else will chime in with advice.

I've been meaning to do a mixture, haven't yet though. I do emulsify it in my hand, but I'll try emulsifying with an oil.

Thanks girl!!! I want to try to get my twisting down to 1hr-1.5hr tops. We'll see how that goes. Depending on what style I'm wearing I use shea butter differently...I'm talking like I have a lot of styles, I only have two (lol). Any way if I'm wearing coils, I'll use shea butter every day to every other day, but it doesn't look dull. I just noticed this since I've started wearing these twists. The second day I had them in, my hair was getting a little dry so I moisturized with shea butter. After that I've only been using my water and oils spritz. I so want to whip my shea butter with other things, I've just been lazy. Thanks for the info though.
Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out

Eww . Why don't you just order some?? That's what I've been doing, since I started my transition. I buy 1lb. from Butters-n-Bars and it lasts FOREVER.

My hair was doing that well before I even started transitioning. That was actually one of the reasons I decided to go natural. Between me not taking proper care of my relaxed hair, over processing, stress, not eating right, and the list goes on. My hair went through its own nervous breakdown, so it kind of forced me to stop getting relaxers. The breakage just continued on into my transition, not because I was doing something wrong during the process but that my strands were just unhealthy and weak. So after 4 months I couldn't get my ends my on track, so I just BC'd. I don't think this JUST happens when you transition, it was just my personal experience which was the result of things I was doing and not doing to my hair before my transition.
HTH!

Yea, I can understand that.
Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
So I co washed my hair and gave myself a deep condition. Instead of doing 2 strand twists I double flat twisted my hair. As I was twisting I noticed that I have a little layer of build up, so I think next week I'll shampoo with giovanni's smooth as silk. This will be the first time I shampoo'd since my bc (I've been a CG for 1 month now). However, I've realized that I have to switch to being a modified CG cuz the build up is a bit much.
Here's how it turned out, and it didn't take as long as my 2 strand twists.

Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
You are good at two strand flat twist. Mine turn out really good on my left side and look a HOT MESS on the right. I need to keep practicing. Are you gonna do a twist out?

First, your flat two strand twists look great. They are tight and right !
Second, have you tried to clarify to rid yourself of build up with baking soda and conditioner. OMGoodness, I love doing this. If you decide to do it, remember to close the cuticle with an apple cider rinse. It does not strip your hair of its natural oils, and it makes your curls respond to products better.

Thank you. I did these a lot when I was in junior high, so I've had practice. Funny story, I did them because I couldn't get a touch up and my new growth was showing. LOL. Yes, I'm going to do a twist out. I'm curious as to how it's going to turn out, but we'll see come Monday.

Thanks for the info. I've tried it before and I still had build up, it's probably because I didn't SCRUB my scalp. I guess I'll try it again instead of the shampoo, maybe I'm just making up an excuse to use it. LOL.
Re: .:Eden:. Curly Q Twist Out
Just an update on my flat twists...
When I woke up I checked my twists out to see if I messed them up with my crazy sleeping. Luckily I didn't, but what I did notice was that they were really SHINY. I put some extra coconut oil in my leave in spritz and it actually made my hair glisten. YAYYYYY
