Hurricane Curly
Hi Everyone,
I believe this is the most supportive sight around. Even at the meet up CN folks are really more open and giving then most. Thank you everyone for providing such good info. You all have really inspired me. So here is my story, I had a very long transition almost 2 years. It all started, not because of some awe inspiring moment of clarity, it started because of vanity. My hair was thinning. Deep down inside I new it was because of the texturizer I had on hair. Now, I have been natural in the past. That too was because of thinning. I went to the dermatalogist and he gave me 2 choices change your hair style or have no hair. That weekend or it probably was that afternoon I went to the barber and b/ced my shoulder length hair. I loved it! I felt free and easy, on top of that I thought I was half cute. But I knew nothing about really caring for and especially didn't know how to style it. I kept it for about a year and half and I b/ced again. Loved it but got bored with it very quickly. This time I let it grow into a BAA. However, I still didn't know how to style other than to press it. This where the texturizer came in. I wanted a new look. It was okay at first. Then it just got harder and harder to style. The formulation had changed and my hair started thinning. I finally said I will not get another chemical service and I let my hair grow out. As my hair grew an inch I woudl trim an inch. This went on until February 2010, when I found Curlynikki. Reading what everyone had to say and their tips gave me encouragement and I cut about 4 -5 inches off. That weekend I went to my first meet up at Vapianos.

Re: Hurricane Curly
I am a self confessed product junkie. But I have gotten better, because with all the experimentation I have found what works for my hair and what doesn't but I am still learning. I love Herbal Essence Hello Hydration, Aussie Moist and Aussie 3 Minute Miracle. I usally co-wash. However, once a month I low poo with Dr. Bonner Pure Castille Peppermint Soap and I add a few drop of tea tree oil. I don't know if that is the best way to use it but I do. Depending on the hair style I'm shooting for, I like grape seed oil and coconut oil. For a while, I thought shea butter was to heavy for my hair and it wasn"t until I found the right quality product that worked for me (thanks ChrLvsBks for the advice). I ordered shea butter from Coastal Scents and let me tell you my hair really took on a healthier fuller look with out being super weighed down. The right products make all the difference.

Re: Hurricane Curly
This is my version of a curly fro. It was time to low poo. I mixed 2 parts water to 1 part Dr. Bronner Pure Castille Peppermint Soap. My hair was pretty squeaky, so I conditioned with HEHH, deep conditioned with Aussie 3 minute, then I mixed up Kimmay's receipe and used that as a leave in. I twisted my hair into about 16-18 twist and set on satin covered sponge rollers. I let it air dry and took it down the next moring and fluffed. The leave in made my hair super shiney and soft.
