tiashauntee wrote:This is truly a "hairy" weekend for me. Since I finally have a few days off I wanted to try something that has been on my waiting list. After seeing how cheap the rollers were I decided this was going to be my first experiment.
Let me know what you think and as always I am open to suggestions:

so I already told you you were my hair idol right??? lol love your roller set results. Are you just going to wrap it at night?
so funny I have been rolling my hair at night. I havent used those rollers in forever but I used them for the first time recently. I roll them up/towards my face because I saw somewhere (boston maria or youtube) that it gives bouncier curls - and it really does! No idea why. So maybe try that if you actually wanted to wear it curly. But since you straightened it with a wrap I don't think it matters which way you roll it. I like the curly look because it is a curly fro by the end of the day and looks good with a headband - which suits my laziness lol.
btw that last pic is screaming jessica rabbit sexiness! lol

I'm in Cold Weather Denial
I HATE (yes I need a strong word for how I feel) cold weather. So I was putting off adjusting my hair regimen for the winter. I figure if I don't admit that cold weather is real it won't happen.....it's not working. I mean geesh, the first day of winter is December 21. It's like we went from summer straight to winter. As I type, I can't feel my fingers. Why my job will not turn on the heat I will never understand.
So far I have considered the following:
Cleansing
Alternate between shampoos and co-washes. The winter hair is already drying to I don’t want to shampoo too often. Every week might be too much for my hair.
Conditioning
Deep condition every week with LeKair Cholesterol/Rosemary Oil/Olive Oil Mix
Moisturizing:
After rinsing and while hair is still damp, leave a small amount of condition in the hair and apply coconut oil to the entire length with special focus on the ends.
Special Treatments
Protein treatments - are now an option for me because I am no longer drinking the protein smoothies in the morning. It's too cold for those now. (Still unsure about this)
Oil Rinse - Twice a month (I love these!!!)
Styling:
Styles for the cold weather will consist of braids, cornrows, buns, and twists that are pinned up or styled in updos. Now that I can do roller sets, I will incorporate those as well.
Trims:
Since I have been more loving towards my ends they have not given me a problem with splits and knots. I am going to trim when needed.

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
I'm trying to get out of the habit of just having hair and move towards loving my hair. After following my fall regimen I have noticed some growth (yay) and that growth happened without "miracle" drugs and growth products. I truly believe our hair is more influence by how we treat it and what we take into our bodies. I will be posting comparison pics tonight.
I am full of conspiracy-like theories, lol

You are so like me! I agree, we all need to learn to love and care for our hair and it will love us in return! Can't wait to see the comparison pics!

Thanks babe!
Length Comparison
The Aug pic does not look as straight as the Nov pic....the difference between the blow dryer and a roller set. From this point forward I am going to roller set for better comparisons
Bunning and moisturizing daily are really helping me maintain length. Next I want to incorporate some scalp massages.

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Wow!!! Your hair is not only longer but also more alive (if that makes any sense) in the Nov pic.

That's some nice growth!!! Your ends do look better! I've been trying to stick to bunning. It's hard because I always want to see my hair!

Tia-that is awesome for 3 months of growth!!!! I love roller setting also because I'm horrible at blow drying. I'd planned on roller setting for Thanksgiving but I was short on time. Seeing your growth makes me want to stop getting scissor happy on my hair

December is here!!
I mastered the Southern Tease bun this morning....after many tries. I will post pics this evening.
I have no clue about what to do tomorrow. I have a ton of homework so I might just wrap my hair and wear another hair...I love causal days.
I read in a lot of different places that castor oil should be mixed with other oils before applying to the hair. Guess what I did last night, applied all by itself. My hair didn't seem to mind but I am going to mix it with some almond oil tonight to see if there is a big difference.
Any advice for using castor oil?

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
I just use mine straight out of the bottle. My hair hasnt had any issues with it. Did it say why you should mix it?
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Other essential oils to make it lighter. But I liked it thick. I just tried it with the almond oil and it was slightly easier to spread. I think I am open to do it either way, depending on how I am feeling.
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Ooh! It looks nice. I just told my aunt that I may need to borrow her hooded dryer to try a roller set, thanks to you! I need to get more big claw clips! Where'd you find yours?

I find those things everywhere. Walmart, Dollar Tree, Beauty supply stores, etc. When are you going to try the roller set?
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
I can never find the medium sized ones!
I'm going to do my roller set on Sunday after church!

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
You've had great progress by taking care of your hair. Great to have comparison shots.
I'm still working on the southern tease bun. My first attempt resulted in my putting in an elastic. Where did your find instructions? Please share.
I would not suggest mixing castor oil and EVOO both are thick oils. I did this recently and should not have to seal my ends for a couple of days. I would suggest using coconut, grapeseed, jojoba and other lighter oils.
Castor can help lay your edges down, and this is a plus if your edges are thinning or thin. It can also add shine.
