I didn't know about the curl street journal and I've been on the forum for a while. lol. Where have I been? I would have started two months ago when I did my big chop.
Well for my first entry:
I big chopped approximately two months ago after a year of transitioning. I was scared. I have thick 4b hair and didn't know how to handle it, whether it would be acceptable at work. All sorts of fears. But I got over them. Every once in a while when I wash, detangle and style my hair, I think about relaxers lol. But overall I'm super happy with my hair.
So far I've tried braids and twists. I like to wear my hair in mostly protective styles because I'm lazy. I just don't like doing my hair everyday and I get really frustrated when I have to. So I do styles that I can wear for a week or two. I prefer braids. The only consistent product I use right now is afroveda shea alma.

Still trying to find a shampoo and deep conditioner I love.

Hey Kinksncurls,
I love the way your braids look in your pics! I need to start doing mine smaller so that I can wear them longer since I usually remove them the next day. I'm a fan of the Shea Amla also!

Welcome to the neighborhood! Your braids look really nice. I'm like you, I like to style my hair once a week. I'm in protective styles about 90-95% of the time. I recently tried SheaMoisture Deep Treatment Masque and I'm very happy with the results. It's $9.99 and can be found at Target.
Your skin is gorgeous!

Thanks everyone!
@lynnieluve - i wish my local target carried those products! I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they'll become so popular that all the targets will start to carry them. And thanks about my skin. I get flare-ups every once in a while, but lately its been really clear.
I'm taking graduation pictures tomorrow. I'm re-doing the same box braids for convenience but I'll be sure to post photos

Re: kinksncurls ~ Still braided up
Okay so I re-did my braids for graduation photos. The hubby and I were both graduating so we decided to go all out
I washed my hair in braids the night before using trader joes tea tree tingle (I'm not sure I like it yet) and deep conditioned with VO5 and coconut oil, and re-did the braids with afroveda shea alma the following night. It is not a good idea trying to do my hair when I'm tired. I was way more rough with my hair than I usually am, and not as patient detangling. My mother in law was coming the next day and we had pictures that morning, and I knew I had to get them finished. I had been detangling with the denman D31 and loving it, but then I noticed I had a quite a few splits ends and I'm beginning to think the denman was the culprit. It just detangles so much better than the wide tooth comb, especially when my hair is in little braids. But I think I'm going to stop using it for a while and see if my problems with split ends goes away.
Super busy week, but wanted to share our pictures. I'll be leaving my hair in these braids for the next 3 weeks. We're going camping after graduation so I need something really easy to maintain.
The hubby is tired of my braids, but he isn't going to be doing my hair every three days when we're on vacation lol! So he'll have to live with them.

Thanks! Let me know how you like it. I liked how it made my scalp feel, but the shampoo left my hair feeling a bit dry. I'm shampooed twice though so that could be it. I'll probably give the shampoo one more try, and try the trader joe conditioner by itself a few times to determine whether I like it or not.

Thank you lynnieluve. I was really happy with the way they turned out. Yes! The hubby insisted that I had to experience what "real camping" is like. He's ex-military. That means tents, sleeping outside, bugs the whole deal. The family has wagers on how long I'm really going to last out there lol, but I'm going to prove them wrong I just can't worry about my hair while I'm out there (which is going to be hard). I plan on co-washing once a week, and spritzing and that's about it. Hopefully my hair will survive, as will I!

So I finally got a chance to try the trader joes tea tree conditioner and I think i like it. Love the tangle that it does so i used it as a leave in today. I got compliments so i think that it is doing its job. I also used it as a cowash the other day and my hair not as icthy so I think it maybe working. Don't really know i will give it a try in the 30 day challenge and see. Hope you enjoy your weekend

I'm glad its working for you. I haven't had a chance to try it since that first time. My husband and I are camping the entire summer. So I could only take 3 products (1 shampoo, 1 condishioner, and 1 moisturizer) husbands order
So i took the things that I knew work. I took the trader joe tea tree tingle shampoo (I like the way it feels too), vo5 moisture milk, and my afroveda. Do let me know how it goes after the 30 day challenge would love to know.
