How long should hair remain braided?
Hey Curlies!
I'm a long term transitioner that's been transitioning for the past 5 months (yay!). I'm keeping my hair braided and I've always been the type to let my braids stay in as long as I can (sometimes I'd go 2-3 months with individuals aka singles). My hair is currently braided in singles now and its been about a month. Can anyone advise me on whether I should impose a limit on the length of time I allow my hair to remain braided.
Salut,

Good question. I have had my kinky twists in since january. I want to leave them in til the end of march. I've been transitioning 8 months.

I wouldn't leave them in longer than 2 months because you run the risk of your new growth matting up and you may lose alot of hair trying to detangle. But if you have left it in for 3 months in the past with no problem and was able to deal with that much new growth then I guess you are fine. But I would be fearful of unnecessary breakage and dreading.
I always take my braids out after 6 weeks because they start looking a mess at the 4 week mark :-\

I agree with I luv Grease! I have micros in right now and plan on keeping them for about 2-2.5 months, no longer but also depending on how they look of course. If they're raggedy after a month, I'll have no choice. I just dont wanna have a mess on my hands when I go to take these bad boys out! Detangling is already such a nightmare for me.
