willi77 wrote:Hey Ladies, I'm only 3.5 months post relaxer, but I'm thinking about BC on my one year mark of transitioning. Tell me what got you so far and what is you average lenght with shrinkage after one year. Thanks...
With me being 14 months post now its at that awkward stage where its hard to style. Nothing I try comes out cute, at least in my opinion. I have such a large mass of hair, on my head its kind of hard to deal with at this length, at least for me. Its very dense. But the very back where I cut the relaxed ends is just above armpit length, straightened. With shrinkage, its in between a TWA and a BAA.

thanks tmochava, this is helpful. my main concern is keeping my hair heathly and grow my edges back. if all goes well I think I will BC around my one year mark.

Woot! I guess I've finally hit the one year mark and I'm so proud. I barely remember when I started, it doesn't seem like it's been this long.
I agree with tTmochava though, anything I do with my hair tnow is close to a mess. It's been stuck in a ponytail for most ofthe time lol

Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
I used to be able to get a really nice curl pattern on my relaxed ends by using a curl cream/gel and scrunching. Since I hit around 8 months of transition I can't get any curl pattern out of my relaxed ends. I'm now at month 12 and I plan on continuing without cutting but it's now soooo hard to style the relaxed hair.
In my avatar i was at month 3 of my transition and my hair looked so curly.
I wish i could get that style again..agghhhh!
Has anyone else experienced this??

Yes, the same thing happened to me. I BC'd at 12 months, as planned. I was especially glad because my relaxed ends were increasingly resistant to gels, creams, foam etc.

In a Few Hours I'll Be 1 YEAR POST!
OMG, I have seriously become a CurlyNikki.com S T A L K E R this past week because I'm CUTTING IT OFF TOMORROW !! Yall don't understand how anxious and nervous I am. I'm supposed to be studying for my exam next week and I can't even do that because I'm such a wreck from a cut that hasn't even happened yet! *faints*
Good news, I went "natural" shopping with a natural friend of mine ^_^ mmhmm I picked up some of that Aussie Moist and if it's as good to me as its been to some of you I'll be in there! I'm praying I'm not a victim of the "Dry Fro". I've never really had dry hair and if some pops up I will lose my mind lol.. I don't even have the usual adjusting period b/c I've got a "photo shoot" for my job the next day. Luckily its ONLY a picture for our site Hair style :TBD smh
In any case I'll try to get some pictures up tomorrow after the Mission has been completed! Wish me luck! x0x0x0

I am officially 12 month post relaxer. I plan to transition for at least another year or so, slowly trimming away the ends.

Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
I am a bit late but my one year anniversary was in September 2010. I can't believe I made it. It was some kind of rough particularly as I did not BC. Now that I made past one year, I am feeling pretty good that I can make it to the two year mark by slowly trimming the ends off just like the pp Monnie plans to do. I have pics in my Fotki of where I am in my hair growth.

Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
Yay! It's been a full year since my last relaxer. I can honestly say my transition thus far has been a breeze. I have in between 4.5-6 in of new growth and between 2-3 in of relaxed ends left. When I started my transition, I honestly didn't know how I was gonna go so long without a relaxer but I knew this is what I wanted and nothing is gonna deter me from my goals. I'm very thankful for this site because I feel that you guys prepared me for battle and "I won't be defeated!" lol. Yay for a year, yay for years to come!!

WTG! 2-3 inches left? you just might bc soon
Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
@dyamonds Thanx! I might... I wear half wigs and lace wigs anyway so I don't think the BC will affect me like I thought it would. We shall see lol. I'm itching to do it but I have a tiring work schedule ahead of me this month.

Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
Just joined the forum and crossed over 14 months post-relaxer. I'm slowly transitioning and hope to be 100% natural by my 40th birthday next October. I can't wait. I've been cutting gradually every 2 or 3 months until the relaxed ends are gone. I prefer not to BC, so I'm committed to protective styles and no heat. I'm loving the transition so far. Bantu knot-outs and twist-outs that are pinned up are my signature styles. I get compliments left and right. Keeping everything moisturized is my biggest challenge, so I'm here to learn and apply what I've learned from you very lovely ladies!!

Transitioning for 12 Months To Chop or Not To Chop
My last relaxer was exactly 12 months ago. I have been wearing sew-in weaves. I am tired of weaves and want to wear my hair in a natural hair style. I do not have any realxer on the ends, my hair appears to be completely natural. Do I need to chop or can I move forward with my hair in its current state?

Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
As you have been getting the sew ins taking out before a re-install have you been doing mini-trims/cuts, is this why your saying you have no relaxed ends left? If after you shampoo your hair or whatever your normal routine is for cleansing your hair you don't see any relaxed ends to get clipped I don't see why you can't move forward-you have someone check the back out for you if you're unsure and get their opinion if the ends looked relaxed. Congrats on 1 year post relaxer!kera10 wrote:My last relaxer was exactly 12 months ago. I have been wearing sew-in weaves. I am tired of weaves and want to wear my hair in a natural hair style. Re: 12 Months Post Relaxer
All I officially started into my 12th month of transitioning on yesterday and the official year will be next month! Getting ready to install my kinky twists this weekend after my good shampooing, DT, and moisturizing session tonight. No BC in the near future-think I'm going on up to the 18month mark and will evaluate from there. Happy Transitioning Ladies!
