Re: Juices-n-Berries xal is high and fly!
Thanks so much for all of your concerns. So remember I told ya'll that I had a test, so I put my hair in a puff. Well, I went over to my grandmother's house to get some food. My hair was still wet and was the topic of conversation from the time I walked in the door to the time I left. The first thing was "Why is your hair wet?" I explained that I'd just washed it. My mom was there and she asked "Y did you wash it" I explained that I put some natural dye on it (didn't feel like explaining henna). My granddad then asked "Oh is that your natural color?" I said yes only because the henna isn't entirely noticeable. He said "It's pretty". My grandma then chimes in "Yea, when it's straight, not when it's nappy" So my granddad says "My baby doesn't have any nappy hair", which was met with a reply of "Hmmm." THEN, my mom chimes in and says "She had some twists in the other day, that was cute." I explained that I planned to twist tomorrow but didn't have time because I needed to study. THEN, my grandma proceeds to say "When's the next time you going ot the beauty shop?" I of course at this point am so annoyed and so down that I didn't even have an answer. A few moments pass and she hits me with a "You know you sposed to have on some big earrrangs when your hair's like that" Now mind you, I gave a presentation earlier. So I had on slacks and a sweater with pearl earrings, so I wasn't looking sloppy. I just nodded. Then, in about another 5 minutes she says "It actually doesn't look that bad, you just need some shine. You got something to add some shine" Well, ya know 4b hair is only going to shine so much. I was entirely ready to go...
Now mind you, my grandmother did say all of this jokingly. However, when you're a new natural, you hair takes some getting used to even for yourself. I shouldn't have expected her to be supportive. She's from the old school. She once told me "I wouldn't have kept you as much when you were younger if you hadn't been so light skinned" Both my grandparents are several shades lighter than my with straight/curly hair. My grandmother ACTUALLY DOES have Indian in her family. Her mom was born on a reservation. But those genes did not trickle down to me AT ALL. Me and my mom are the only people on BOTH sides of my family, INCLUDING the AFRICAN side that have uhhh "textured" hair. Lol. Now I don't want it to seem that I'm bad mouthing my grandma. She kept me all while I was growing up and she's one of my best friends. I guess that's why it felt bad hearing her say these things.
Now, this wasn't her first time seeing my hair. But it was her first time seeing it without it being in twists, twist out, coils, etc. So it was just my plain ol 4b curls/naps in a puff. I think that's one of the struggles. With this hair type, most strive to keep it in some sort of order, as if it needs to be tamed. But at the end of the day, what's the point of going natural if you can't do a WnG every now and then...
On the flip side, I talked to my mom today and asked her about it. She said she'd forgot to tell me that my hair looked great and that my skin was radiant and that my outfit was cute. Would've helped if she'd said that yesterday. But at least I know that the negativity wasn't the general consensus of the room. The craziest part is my best friend was there and she has actually been considering going natural. So much for that, huh?
Oh well, I've given you an earful. I'm feeling much better today. Just let it roll off and keep it moving. She still loves me, and I love her. So all is well.

WOW!!! I am happy you have such a good attitude about it. *hugs*
Re: Juices-n-Berries xal is high and fly!
^^^^^^ Yeah me too!!! That seems like it was pretty hard to deal with but you made it through! I'm sure your hair looked beautiful in that puff though. It just takes other people time to realize their mistake in thinking natural hair isn't exactly what it is - gorgeous, versatile, curly, unpredictable, thick, coarse, and filled with character!!! I'm glad you kept your head up darling
Re: Juices-n-Berries xal is high and fly!
I havent experienced any negativity towards my hair yet but the lady in the pharmacy at the drugstore kept staring at my puff today with a "stink" face. I almost said something but though to myself, "Well, it is pretty big. You cant help but look at." She didnt have to give the "stink" face though.

Hey JnB~
I know you were upset...but as I was reading I thought this could be a scene right out of a Tyler Perry play. Family...what can we say. We gotta love them!!!
My grandmother was like your grandmother. She wouldn't hold me when I was a baby cause she said "That gurl is too light!" My grandmother (God bless her soul) was a very beautiful dark skin woman. Boy I wished a many of days for her skin complexion!!!
Glad you are alright now!!!
Can't wait to see your pictures...I'll check back Sunday!

Re: Juices-n-Berries xal is high and fly!
So guys, I dry twisted my hair yesterday. I don't remember how long it took because I did it while I was catching up on some shows, but I know it took some hours. I wanted to see which products would work best, so I used a different product in each section. Lol. In the back, I used Oyin Shine and Define. Then I switched to Qhemet AOHC. Then I did Afroveda Totally Twisted. Then I did Afroveda Pur Whipped Gelly. Finally, I sealed all the twists with the Qhemet Hydrating Balm. Honestly I can't really tell a difference. Lol. I guess maybe I'll notice when I do the twist out. I love the look of the dry twists because you can really see the length. My hair is growing, growing, growing. Also, when I dry twist, the twists kind of curl up on the ends on their own, which gives it a girly flair. I'll probably keep them in for a week. At night I'm going to spray on my aloe gro (my mix: aloe vera gel, lavender EO, rosemary EO, vitamin E, and peppermint EO) on my scalp so I won't have itchies. And in the mornings spray on a lil Juices and Berries. It's really good for moisture. And I might add a lil Afroveda Cocolatte just for some smell.
Anyways, I realize it's useless telling you all this as I have no pics. Sorry. I know my page is such a bore without them. I'll make up for it. Promise.

See that is what I need something like the shine and define.. I can't wait for the hair show to get some goodies!!! I am sure it looks good
Re: Juices-n-Berries xal is high and fly!
Hey JnB~
I have a question about the aloe grow spritz...does it make your hair feel sticky? I've tried it a couple of times and it has a sticky feeling. I don't know maybe its because I'm using it on my braids.
Anyway...glad your hair is growing, and I can't wait to see your pictures.
Have a great weekend!!!

I don't use the aloe gro on my hair. I only use it on my scalp. So I haven't had any issues. I put it in a small spray bottle and aim directly at the scalp avoiding the hair. I know some people do use it on their actual hair though. I do it mainly to fight the itch. What about the JnB? Does it make your hair sticky? The jury is still out for me.
On a side note, I think I've figured out a way to catch you guys up on the pics. I'm gonna section it by style and treatments so you can see the progression of my hair and skills over time. This way I can catch everyone up alot quicker than doing one post at a time. Anyway, stay tuned.

Soooo... my mom and I went to Whole Foods today. And I convinced her to buy my some KCCC! I'm sure glad cuz I couldn't afford that $30 for one product. Lol. I probably won't open it till it gets warm officially, since I'm not doing wash and gos right now much. But when I'll do, I'll let ya'll know what and if it does anything.

Yep. She is. I can't wait to try it. Question? When you use KCCC do you use the entire line? I have the KT, but not the shampoo. Is it necessary?

Hey JnB~
It depends....I've used the shampoo & KT because it is recommended. I've seen YouTube videos where other naturals did not. Just know that KCCC does not play well with other products..i.e. heavy creams; shea butter
Also, make sure when you do use it that your hair is soaking wet!!!
That was very sweet of your mom!!!

I didn't plan on applying any additional product. I was just gonna wash with a shampoo I already had and then apply the KT and KCCC. But since she bought the custard I can swing 15 for the come clean. Question? What's the shelf life on the KCCC? Like how long will it stay fresh after opening. I'm really tempted to try it right away but want it to last through the entire summer. Will it go bad?
Yes I'm glad she supports the natural. She actually went natural two years but then relaxed. I'm trying to convince her to go back. Especially since her hair is thinning now. But she says she doesn't want to "shock" her hair by doing something different. Although I can't see how going natural will shock her hair. Eh ya.

You know that is a good question. I've had mine since January and I have about 1/4 left in the jar. I'm not sure, but since it is mass produced I would think that the ingredients would last a good while don't you think? I mean, they can't control how long it's going to stay on the shelves at Whole Foods.
hmmmmm.....I would think she had to add some preservatives to the product that will make it last longer than 3 or 6 months.
If you want to use your regular shampoo, just make sure that it is a clarifying shampoo. You don't want white stuff in your wNg..

Hey friend! How Are you enjoying those oils?
I have tried the KCCC before and I like the results. Be sure to follow the instructions or else it will not come out right. And you don't have to use alot to style which is a plus seeing as how it costs so much.
Is your hair type 4a or 4b or neither?
I was just wondering because i was thinking of trying some of the other products you use. Right now I am back to the shea butter mixture, because I have gotten tired of my hair being hard and stiff with the gel.

Hey lady!! for the aloe grow u might want to add purified or distilled water to combat the stickiness.

I'm actually going to use the oils in my aloe gro mix. My hair is mainly 4b with a mixture of 4a. Some of the products I hear are sold locally. That's the Qhemet. I'm almost out and would definitely like to re-purchase. If u want me can meet up one Saturday and have a look see.

I actually have two different mixes. One with water and one without. I guess I prefer the stickiness of the one without because i use it just on the scalp and it "sticks" without running down disturbing my style. I use this with protective styles. The one with water I use as a spritz to re-wet during styling or as a refresher. That one has more water and only a little aloe gel mixed with the same EOs and some Greg Juice and some Honey Hemp. When I type that it sounds like such alot. Lol. How do u make your mix?

You're right. Old habits die hard. But I agree with KNH after reading it sounds like a Tyler Perry scene. Lol. I need to get some eucalyptus. That's one I don't have yet. And you and Sweet gonna make me spring for that Pooka. I'm currently resisting temptations to purchase things I don't need. Lol.
