By the time you read this you will know that I didn't make the meeting. I am so exhausted from dealing with my cell phone provider about my phone. I finally got my number back, so now I'm going to sleep. Yes...right now at 3:16pm. I hate I'll miss meeting you face to face, but I don't have the energy.

Hi JnB~

I'm soo sorry I missed the meet-up, but that drama with my cell phone drained me out!!! They lost my number and I didn't get service until 4pm Saturday....3 days and no phone!!! I didn't wake up until this morning. I missed the Oscars and everything. My son said I was knocked out....our dog jumpped on the bed with me, and my son said I didn't move.

The meetup was great! It was a smaller group this time so we got to talk more. I signed up for the group. I didn't see the April event, only the one with kids. I'll have to look again.

So, KNH, I'm getting alot more creative with my hair and trying different things. So, I'd still been rocking the modified coil out. Lol. But last night I decided to combine the coils into two strand twists, hoping to stretch out my length. I was only able to do half, from the back to the middle. So, this morning when I woke up, I did fairly fat twists at the top just to make sure it stretched like the back. It worked well. Once I took the twists down I had a nice lil curly fro. I pulled it back with a mix of Afroveda Pur Whipped Jelly and Qhemet Olive and Honey Hydrating Balm. Secure with a Scunci and out the door. My hair has grown alot. I really wish you guys could see.

Right now my henna is in prep. I bought the Spice Mix from BnB which includes cinnamon and cloves. Those are supposed to "brown down" the red tones in henna. I placed half of the mix into some water. I brought it to a boil and then let it steep. Once it cooled, I mixed this into the henna. I wasn't going to add acid, but I didn't make enough of the cinnamon water to get the henna the right consistency and was on my way out. So I added a few caps of ACV because that's all I had on hand. I stirred her up. It's well mixed, but there's still some clumps here and there. Is this ok?

Before I apply tomorrow I'm going to add some olive oil and honey to the mix. In the morning, I will do a baking soda and condish to clarify. And then do an ACV rinse. I'll need to stalk Chrs thread to get the amounts on those. If anyone knows the page. Lol... Then henna away. I haven't chosen a style yet, but I'll let you guys know. Yup.... the initial mix, the henna will be clumpy... as it sits and you go to mix tomorrow, it will be smooth.....

For clarifying, I use about a half cup of conditioner to one tablespoon of baking soda. For the ACV rinse, I do two cups cold water to three tablespoons of ACV. I would suggest one cup of water to one tablespoon of ACV.

Thanks so much Chrs, saved me a trip! Is there any particular conditioner I need to use or is Suave Coconut or the HHEE ok. I know they have cones, does that interfere with the clarifying process?

I use VO5 and have used Suave. I think Suave is cone free but HE HH has a water soluble cone. They are okay to use from what I have read.

So guys, the henna process is complete. I'll start of telling you about what I did. I actually opted out for the baking soda/ACV rinses. This is only because I didn't want to try two new things on the same day. I wanted to get a chance to see how henna alone would effect my hair overall. So I just washed with my ORS Oilive Oil Shampoo. Then I detangled with AOHSR making sure to rinse all of the conditioner out. I applied the henna and left it on for about 7 hours. Rinsed thoroughly and co-washed with Suave Coconut Condish. I am now sitting with My Honey Child Honey Hair Mask on as a deep conditioner with my Hair Therapy Heat Wrap. Now I'll get into the results:

My Personal Henna Myth Busters:

1) Henna smells bad.
False- Now, ya'll know me and smells do not get along. But I actually didn't have any problems with the smell of the henna. I wouldn't say that it's pleasant. But it wasn't too strong or utterly repulsive as I was worried beforehand that it would be.

2) Henna is messy.
False- I actually didn't have any problems with a mess. I took ALL the necessary precautions: newpaeprs, towels, etc. but it really wasn't necessary at all. I think it depends on your mix (I make the pancake consistency one and added olive oil and honey) and how wet your hair is (I did it on 5 min plopped hair). I had no issues with all. This was one of my biggest concerns so I was quite relieved.

3) Henna will not color dark hair at all.
False- I have extremely dark hair and I was able to see some color. It's not a drastic change. And it's mainly on the ends. I’m not sure if this is because I have a few relaxed ends still remnant. But I can see it and so can my best friend. I was able to capture it with the camera, so when I post pics, you will see it too. I am confident that I will be able to see more color with additional treatments.

4) Henna will loosen your curl pattern.
True and False- The jury is still out on this one. I can definitely tell some loosening in the 4a parts of my hair where there were already spirals, but not so much in the 4b. It is much more manageable and I even see a bit of hangage. I can see more defined curls than before as well. So this is actually a good thing for me.

5) Henna will make your hair dry.
False- My hair can be as dry as the Sahara, so I was very concerned about this. I was very pleasantly surprised. I honestly think my hair felt softer, but stronger. Thicker but not in a bad way as my hair is already thick. I think people tried to explain this before in words, but I think it’s one of those things you have to experience. I didn’t even feel that I needed a deep conditioning afterwards, but I’m doing one anyway just because.

Overall, I am very pleased with my henna experience and with the results. I will definitely be doing this again. I have a smidge of henna left over which I have put in the freezer. I also have some cinnamon and clove water/tea left over as well. I know people do cinnamon treatments to also lighten the hair. In about 3 weeks I plan to mix the tad bit of henna, the cinnamon water, and some conditioner into a paste and use it as a mini henna gloss/cinnamon treatment.

I have an exam tomorrow so I don’t have time to bother with styling. I’m just going to do a puff and call it a day. I should be getting my computer back this weekend and will have pics for you all ASAP.

Aww I hope you're feeling better hun! It is pretty discouraging to think you're looking flyy and someone says something hurtful. But that's why you have us!!!!! WE know you looked fiece but all that's important is that you were happy with it. This journey wasn't for other people - it was for you! Hopefully you feel better and when you feel like ranting, you know we'll listen Smile

And I'm glad your henna experience went well! I was a little afraid of doing it but I'm less afraid now. LOL thanks for those myth busters!

I'm sorry that the fam hurt your feelings. However, you can't let that get to you. My mom is the exact same why, and about a month ago be bumped heads. I had to tell her as respectable as I could that this was my hair, and if you couldn't say anything nice, please reframe from saying something negative. About two weeks later she apologized.

We made a pack not to discuss hair at all. However, when I got my braids she went on and on about how great I looked with braids.

Thanks for the henna review. I want to try it but I have some concerns. You touched on a lot of them (smell, color, and messy)
