adiaha wrote:Juices-n-Berries wrote: So today I got my first "You're so brave. I can't go natural. My hair is too nappy" This comment really bothered me because it implies two things 1) I don't know why people think there is some criterion for going natural. Now, ya'll have all seen my virgin hair. And if anybody has "nappy" hair, it's definitely me. But yet, I've learned (from both myself, YouTube, and forums like this) that my hair can still achieve the same styles as everyone else. Obviously, from the styles I've been doing, no one has realized that I don't have what's considered "good hair" And even if I couldn't, why is nappy so bad. So what that my hair is kinky and tightly coiled. It is indeed my hair. Good hair is hair that is growing out of your scalp. Good hair is healthy hair. 2) That one must be brave to go natural. It's sad that society has convinced us that wearing the hair God place atop our heads is so terrible, that one would actually be ashamed to wear it. Furthermore, I don't understand why we have the mentality of "going" natural. If anything, being natural is more about what you DON'T do than what you DO. In my opinion, being natural IS NATURAL. I don't know why I didn't realize this sooner. The more I learn and grow, the more I'm becoming the woman I believe God wants me to be.
And that's my soapbox for today. Lol.
OMG you must be channeling me, I was just having this same exact conversation with a friend of mine today. I was scared to stop relaxing and go back to my roots but now Im regretting that I ended my 10 month transition in 2008 with a relaxer and Im loving the natural me, it just feels right.
I did the same thing. Well sort of. Back in 06, I went "natural" for a year. But really I was only doing it to grow my hair without perms. Perms have never really done well for my hair. Something always goes wrong. My hair will do fine with a brand the first few times, then it all goes awry. So I didn't get perms for a year. I didn't do a BC or anything, and I wasn't really interested in natural hair and didn't research it. Well some time after I started wearing weaves then. They're real popular amongst college girls in Texas. Most of the people I knew in New Orleans frown upon that sort of thing. Well, somebody that was doing my weave said they needed to perm the front so it would blend. I said ok. I'm sad because had I stayed on course, I'd have a BAA instead of my TWA. But in due time...

So, no soapbox today. I'm glad. I get a break. I don't want to become a natural Nazi. I've only been natural a little over a month, but I think the more I learn the more I become passionate about natural hair. It's like a suddenly went off in my head and I wish people were more educated about these things. Anywho, I'm not really feeling this set of twists, so I may not post pics unless I do sumn cute with an accessory. I did do a length check today so I'll post some pics from that tomorrow. Later curlies!

Good Morning Curlie,
I'm sure your twists are fine. I've become obsessed as well.

I didn't do them. I got them done. She didn't use the same pattern as she did the first time. And she didn't curl the ends like she did before. They're ok, just not pic worthy IMO. When's your BC?

Decisions Decisions
So I'm really anxious to hurry and do my twist out cuz I wanna see what it will look like with more defined twists that aren't so old. BUT, I also would like to see how long I can keep the twists so I was thinking of washing them n trying for another week. What do y'all think I should do?

I'd say get your money's worth out of them, and then wash them and see how they hold up.

Yes, I think I'm gonna try to stretch them out. I'll let you know how the wash goes.

Length
So, I decided to do a length check. Well just a visual one, I haven't got out the ruler yet. As you can see I'm another victim of the terrible shrinkage monster. ----> Lol. But I'm really surprised at the amount of growth I have.
There's back pretty much touches the bottom of my neck, but I couldn't manage to hold the camera and do much at the same time to really give you a clear pic. The front is past my eyebrows. So I'd say I'm doing pretty good.

I've been transitioning since about mid June. So I guess you'd say 7 months. So that would mean I'm going on about 8 months of growth. I don't know if that's good or not, but I do not that my hair is about halfway to being the length it was when I was relaxed. I will post some of my relaxed pics tomorrow since I won't be doing anything new with my hair.

Nice growth! The key is to make sure you retain it.
Good luck washing your twists. I did that a few weeks ago and it turned out well.

Yes that's the goal. Length retention. Any additional tips?
I will be washing the twists on Sunday. I will post pics of the before and after.

Blue Nails
So, this has nothing to do with hair, but I really like this nail polish. I've gotten lots of compliments on it. This pics don't do it justice. But I decided to post some. Just cuz.

I love the nail polish! What color and brand is it?
When I co washed my mini twist, I wet my hair before I got in the shower. Then I added the conditioner and lightly rubbed it in. Go in the shower and rinsed. Hope this helps.

Unfortunately I forgot to check the name of the color at the nail shop. :-( But surprisingly it's not an OPI or Essie color. So I don't even know if I'd be able to find it. When I go to the nail shop again I'll be sure to check.
That sounds like a good idea. I really want to focus on the scalp as to not disturb the twists. Also, did you condition after or just cowash?

I applied my shea butter mix to each twist to re-moisturize.

In that case, I'll use your method to cowash and then moisturize with the Afroveda Cocolatte Moisture Mask. I LOVE that stuff. I don't know how it compares to other products, I just LOVE the smell. Chocolate heaven!
