Nmoultry,
Your hair is beautiful. What do you do to keep it moisturized? I am in the transition phase. My hair is extremely dry

Hi BodaciousCurls,
Thanks for the compliment. To keep my hair moisturized I do a number of things. I drink plenty of water, I pre-poo with oil treatments, I always deep condition (and steam) my hair after each wash, I seal my ends with mango butter or coconut oil.I have a 1 liter thermos that I take to work with me daily. I refill it 4-5 times. I keep water in the drunk of my car. If I use too many products then my hair will be sticky so I focus on what I eat and drink.

Thanks Nmoultry,
I was wondering how your hair stayed shiny and silky looking. I pre-poo with the oil treatments; however, I was not deep condish'ng after each wash. I seal with shea butter. The coconut oil seems to dry really quick in my hair, and it's like I never put oil in my hair because I have to use a ton of coconut oil. I also drink a lot of water, but not as much as you. You go girl [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Sauna and Me Have a Date this Week--Excited
Tisha wrote:Hey Ladies:
i do my hair regimen at the gym (usually a Saturday after a workout). The best deep conditioner you can get is washing/conditioning or cowashing and putting on a plastic cap while you relax in the sauna. After I do that, I go do my COLD WATER RINSE. Then I enter the steam and reopen my cuticles and put my oils (jojoba and coconut) in while I sit in the steam room. I oil and massage my scalp and seal my ends with oil!
I do this once a week. So if you have a gym with a sauna and or steam take advantage of such amenities and PLAN your hair regimen around your workout. This is my ME time day. Right now I'm unemployed so this gets done during the week, if I miss the weekend. Oh, I work out at my local YMCA. They provide towels and everything. I pay only $35 per month. So this is not some luxurious gym. I love it!
Hi, Tisha. I am going to try this one day this week after work. I would have done it today but at work already and do not have any conditioner at my desk. I do have oils, hair butters and gel in my desk drawer [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]. I'll let everyone knows how it goes.
I have a question. How long do you stay in the steam room?

Re: Steamers, dryers?
So my husband and I have a rule of not spending over $75 without consulting the other. This helps in keeping our finances in order. Anyway, he has agreed that a steamer would be good and purchase it as a family gift. Yeah, he wants to use it as well, a person that cuts his hair every 2 days. But if that's what it takes. Re: Steamers, dryers?
I've never had a steam treatment but really want to try one since everyone speaks highly of them.
My Own method of steaming
So i can't afford a steamer right now so i found an alternative. My towel probably didn't have to be as big as the one i used but, it was cool.
Here it is:

Sorry i don't have any before pictures but i can say that my hair was ALOT heavier and when i stretched it , it didn't tangle at all and my ends felt so smooth. Everyone say a noticeable difference. Random people have stopped and asked about my hair for the past week. Even my family asked what i did b.c it looks a lot better!

What was your method. Im looking for a cheaper alternative to a steamer until I can afford to invest in one. Just a warm wet towel and plastic bag?

Re: Steamers, dryers?
I plan to purchase this as my graduation gift to myself lol. Hydration (steam) treatments at the salon are an additional $20 so by the time I get a few of those done, I could have bought my own!
Steam without Steamer

I don't have a steamer but get great results doing something similar. I place a plastic bag on my head. Saturate and wring out a flannel pillowcase. I heat the pillowcase in the microwave on high for 10 minutes. The pillowcase is situated so the entire thing can get heated, think of a sack before you get into it for a sack race. I then place my bagged head inside the pillowcase so it is like two layers of heat :-D. Another plastic bag is placed on top and then a towel is wrapped to seal in the heat. The towel feels hot/warm for more than 15 minutes. When it cools, I wet it again and reheat it. My hair feels heavy from the moisture it has retained. If you try another way or one of these, please share.
Re: Steamers, dryers?

Please see my post above on December 4. I had a steam treatment a few months back and with my alternative, my hair felt heavy (full of moisture).
