Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
-To start making some of my own hair care products.
-When straight my hair reaches past my bra strap but I want to work on it reaching my bra strap when it is curly.(It was almost there in 06 but I have the super bad habit of just cutting my hair.)
-To keep track of what I do to my hair with pictures and a blog, etc.

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
I forgot to add that I'll start a Curl Street Journal in 2011. I want to detail my family's natural journey, my weight loss/health, skin/makeup care, and of course, my hair battles and victories. I never thought I would I would blog my life until I joined CN.

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
* Less breakage/retaining length - Taking my time while detangling; use more conditioner in the process. Stay on top of SSKs and split ends. Seal my ends.
* Keep using healthy/natural products - I recently got away from using too many chemical based products on my hair though I still use cheap conditioners. Looking for a cost effective alternative.
* Taking better care of my scalp - My scalp can get pretty dry at times.
* Keep up the 30-day spending freezes - Unless I'm replacing a product that I need. This is for budget and clutter control. Having a set of regular products doesn't work however because the needs of my hair changes with the seasons.

Healthy hair begins on the inside...
# drink water
# exercise at least 3 days a week
# take mulit-vitamins
# eat fruits
maintain what grows out of my head...
# no more gel
# little to no direct heat
# continue with protein treatments every 6 weeks

DC more often
Find a reasonable regimen to stick to
Brush my hair less (hairstylist says it's damaging my hair, especially around edges)
Wear my hair down more (hairstylist says pinning it up is damaging my hair)
Wear more natural styles and only straighten my hair like when I trim my ends (goal is to apply less heat)
Did you stylists say why it is damaging to pin your hair up?

atangledmess wrote:Hey Lynnieluve, sitting with this henna on my head is the start of my 2011 hair resolution. This is second time I'm doing it and will give it two months to see growth in density, less tangles, and smoothness . If not, then it's a trip around the corner to the chop shop .
I will no longer cut tangles out of my due to my lack of patience and total frustration.
I will remember to wash my hair more often especially in the winter months.
I will experiment with more natural tonics, etc. Although, I have over $200.00 worth of products under my kitchen & bathroom sink that I must use or give away. I need an extra job to buy all this hair stuff.
I will not od on all the information on this site.
I want to love, appreciate, understand, and respect the kinks, rolls, frizz, shrinkage, and multi textures that God has given me.
However, I will fight grays, and discipline uncooperative locs wiith the scissors.
What hair styles are you wearing that causes the tangles?

Leelo wrote:*new girl on the block*..lol
1 - MORE GROWTH
2 - Find a great regimen for my hair. I'm so inconsistant
3 - Wear more natural styles.
I've been completely natural for two years and I have NOT been taking care of my hair in the manner it which I should. I just started wearing it out this past summer - I was so scared at first, but after day 2.. I embraced it. I've been out of work for the past 5 months and I went on interviews with my natural hair (pulled back in a nice professional puff) and no one hired me. I caved in and straightened my hair, the first interview I went on after I straightened my hair, I got the job. I cried after I straightened my hair because I felt like I was giving in. So, now I've been wearing my hair straight for about 3 weeks - only touching up twice. I have been thinking of wearing it straight until my 90 days are up and then bringing out my natural curls. I'm a little apprehensive about doing that because I don't want to damage my hair and unable to get my curl back..aarg - what is a girl to do!?!?!?!?
It's against the law to fire someone for wearing their natural texture!!!
Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
My goals are:
1. Commit to taking my hair vitamins.
2. Reach APL (stretched) by summer.
3. Learn new styles for my hair.
4. Use steamer at least once per week.
5. Keep direct heat to a minimum.

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
Have more products on hand so I can make homemade products like moisture mist and add things to my DC.. My products to have on hand always are silk amino acids, Jojoba oil, Sunflower oil, Hemp Seed oil and Aloe Vera Gel, Juice and Guar Gum to make gels. I already have some of the things on hand now. Just keep these as my staples.

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
*Be consistant with my weekly routine
*Be consistent with my monthly conditioing routine (henna/protein)
*Reach APL stretched by my birthday (June)
*Gather the courage to straighten on my naptural anniversary (April) just to see the progress (was transitioning and natural before that but didnt have the courage to wear it curly)
*Find a complete line to use from beginning to end (poo, condish, dt, moisturizer and styler) to ease styling sessions and do away with the pjism- looking like either Shea Moisture or Curls
*Treat myself to one butter a month until i find a staple that can be added to a styler/moisturizer in the above goal/resolution
WISH ME LUCK LADIES

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
1. try more styles (I'm completely committed and slightly addicted to my twist out with cornrows on the side. I recently created my own challenge called No Cornrows to Christmas. I didn't have any cornrows from Thanksgiving until Christmas.)
2. deep condition more (okay I rarely do this now...like never)
3. I would say no color but that probably won't happen. So I'll say no color until my birthday which is in April...maybe.

1. growth, growth, growth
2. stop the PJ'ism....use what I have
3. find core products and learn to stick with what works for me and not focus so much on what everyone else is doing
4. find methods to stretch out my color to every 8 wks (2mos) vs. current every 4 weeks (1mo)

My new years resolutions are
1. Moisturize, including co-washes, conditioner spritzes and oil mixes for sealing ends.
2. Put the comb away and use hands only for detangling
3. Do search and destroy missions more often ( I got double knots from not taking care of my hair lately)
4. Learn and try new protective styles.
5. Drink more water than coffee
6. Exercise and eat right

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
My goals for 2011:
1. Only comb my hair when it's soaking wet with conditioner - No damp or dry combing and no combing without a lot of conditioner.
2. Master detangling - really learn how to combine a wide tooth with a denman for removal of shed hair only.
3. Use up existing products - there is one condish I need more of and one I want to try: after that, use at least 75% of all products I have before purchasing or trying something new.
4. Don't touch my hair when I don't feel like it, am tired or have no patience.
5. Wear twists the majority of the time. (That's all you Lynnie!) When I feel like a change I have a cute half wig for now and a longer cute half wig and a phony pony for next year if my hair gets longer like I HOPE!
6. Reduce the need to trim and when I do - have it be a hair at a time for SSKs. (low and careful manipulation.)
Well, that's it. Wish me luck!

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
I plan to keep a protective sew in until the harsh winter passes (about 4 more months), taking it down every 3-4 weeks. Do a SUPER deep treatment, wash, and re-install within a couple days.
Once spring hits I will continue my regular regimen.
Bi-Weekly washes
Weekly deep treatments
I do want to start doing more ayurvedic treatments, with powders and oils. I already do a monthly henna but I want to experiment with more.
I'm loving my hair and this journey I hope to reach shoulder length by my 21st birthday (Nov 12th) so I can rock a FIERCE twist out!!!!

Re: 2011 Hair Resolutions
My goals for 2011:
1. Keep it simple.
2. No more shopping except to replace staples. No more trying more products to make my curls "POP". My fuzzy coils are alright by me.
3. Doing more stretched styles as it grows and less tangle inducing wash and go's.
4. Continue to apply my jbco b/c it is working!!!
5. Keep my hands out of my hair!
Also like to echo what a few others have said and learn to cornrow. It's just never been my thing. My hands look arthritic when I try! I just have no clue what I'm doing.
