we all know that henna can loosen the curl pattern.

i also hear that you can "train" (excuse me for lose of better wording) natural hair to grow in a certain curl pattern.

i have never henna'd before, but i plan to soon.

i was wondering since henna loosens the curl pattern already maybe adding rollers to the process can actually "train" (that stupid word again, sorry) hair to grow in the diameter of the roller.

this is my plan for when i get my henna:

mix henna with coconut milk and lime
while waiting for dye release, wash hair
apply henna in very itty bitty sections, follow with a roller/flexi rod
saran wrap hair tightly as possible
sleep on it
remove saran wrap and rollers
soak rollers in water mixed with cheap shampoo
wash hair with herbal essences totally twisted conditioner
have curls????!!!! maybe after a few times?????!!!

nice idea theoretically speaking. what are your thoughts?

Honestly???? I think it would take a LOT of 'training" to achieve what you want. Not to mention the rollers in the henna'd hair can be extremely messy!!! Why are you wanting to change your curl pattern anyway???

I don't know. Henna sometimes loosens the curl because it builds up in the hair shaft by making it a tiny bit heavier. It doesn't actually change the curl pattern. If you don't have a curl, henna is not going to make the hair curly. It might make it straighter if its already straightish. If you can 'train' your hair, you could probably do it without henna.

I will be interested in your results. Hope it works for you. Maybe Amla will work for you. People use amla to bring back their curls from henna loosening.

I agree^ Henna loosens the curl by weighing the strand down so the curls hangs more. There is a post in styling and profiling by DreamMerchant that tells how she got curl defintion from her old twists.

Ditto - henna is very messy if you're not careful and most people's curl pattern doesn't change with henna anyway.

Crying or Very sad
I just want my hair to be more manageable WITHOUT a texturizer. Hopefully with henna my hair will hang more.

You should get a straw set with flexi rods. Any salon should be able to hook that up for you......it will last about 2 weeks with care. Also, speaking from experience, after my second big chop, a texturizer will not give you that curly look you're seeking, it is just a relaxer applied fast and rinsed quickly. You would be better off getting a wave nouvea or something.

I woudl like to know the results if you've tried it. I Henna often and I can not imagine doing anything more than putting in on my hair and squishing it. Also, It has not changed my curl pattern at all; which I appreciate .

I have hennaed several times and no changes to my curl pattern, I did make my hair clump better but I have really curly hair in back and wavy hair up top so twist outs help me achieve a pattern in the top of my hair.
