Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
I haven't use Aloe Vera gel on my hair by itself but I have used it in a mixture with Shea Butter,Rose Water,Aloe Vera Gel, Glycerine and Coconut and Papaya Lotion and I use it for when I twist my hair. It makes my hair super soft and moisturized! I also use Shea Butter, EVOO and Aloe Vera Gel as a body lotion mix. I found both mixes on Youtube.

i don't dissolve it. i just break open the leaf, and apply as desired.
I agree. In my experience there isn't anything to dissolve - just break open and squeeze a bit. My grandmother always had a plant and would apply it to burns and scrapes. I need a plant now. Love it!! I have the 100% aloe gel in the bottle. I keep it in the fridge, but let some sit out for a bit if I'm going to use it. It's been a while, but you ladies have inspired me to play with this again.

Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
Hey everyone! I make an aloe grow spray that I got from a video on youtube. It's been working great. I also use the Lily of the Desert Aloe Vera Gel. I don't know if my hair's just been growing fast on it's own or if this is helping but either way it's been a staple for the last month or two. These are my results(I started using the grow spray between pics 2 and 3 and the pics are from 9.22.09 til 11.3.09):

CurlySpeechTherapist: Where did you get your 100% aloe gel? Whole Foods? I need to find some, and I've heard that some brands are better than others.

Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
Ok so I got a plant leaf from my mother in law. And when I broke a little bit off it was like medium to hard gel. Maybe I will have to warm the rest up to see if it comes out like you guys say it should...lol Maybe it was just cold [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
@Rosebud, yes, I have both the gel and gelly. The gel has to be refrigerated once opened and is a liquid consistency. The gelly is thicker and has more chemicals. I use both.
Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
@chrs, i have the gelly, can that be used in the hair? if so how do you use it?

Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
Am I the only one who finds aloe vera gel drying. I use the 'lily of the desert' brand. I made shea aloe mixes and use it as a smoother for my edges.
Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
I've always used aloe vera gel on my edges, love it! But the kind I use is brown, it's a mix of the entire plant. Organic, get it from the health food store. And I mix aloe vera juice and pomegranate seed oil as a spritz.

Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
Gonna have to try this aloe grow spray one day. Maybe next month, when I put in my yarn braids.
Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
I have a question. Since aloe vera gel needs to be in the fridge, do you have to put your spritzes in the fridge too? I haven't been doing that. Plus my mixes have EOs that double as preservatives. Is that ok?

Re: OOOO, CAN WE TALK ABOUT ALOE VERA GEL?
yES JnB, that is what I use. The tea tree EO and I also use grapeseed oil in my spritzs, so I don't need to refrigerate but I do use a fresh batch every week.
@Kim, aloe vera is a humectant like honey. It will pull moisture into or out of your hair depending on the environment. Maybe the climate you are in is causing it to dry out your hair. Here in NJ/NYC in the winter, I can't use aloe vera gel because it makes my hair dry as well. Pulling moisture from my hair into the environment.
