I just did my henna! Here's my mix:

100g Jamila henna
2 cups of green tea (regular & mint-for the scent)
3 Tbsp of castor oil

My hair was not dry when I rinsed the henna out, so I think it worked well!

BACK TO BLACK, WHOO-HOO!

I purchase my henna and indigo from Mehandi: http://www.mehandi.com/shop/hairhenna.html

Here's the description for henna on the Mehandi site:

[b]Body Art Quality Henna for African Hair:
[b]This henna has the f
inest sift for easy rinsing from fragile, damaged, chemically processed hair.
This henna is produced for us in the
Indus
Bhera and Mailsi henna growing regions. This henna is ideal for relaxed, damaged, and fragile hair (whether or not you have African hair). It is the only henna I recommend for locks because it is so easy to rinse out. This henna has good gray coverage, leaves shimmering red highlights on dark hair. I love henna! I always follow up with Indigo too! Something about jet black hair that I now love! I discovered henna and indigo after researching for a while for a natural dye that would cover my red hair (dyed auburn on the day of by big chop) and give me one fluid color. Needless to say I've used henna 3 or 4 times now and I am impressed! Messy? Yes. Lengthy Process? Yes. Smelly? Yes. Worth it? YES, YES, YES!

I'm henna'ing right now! My mix:
-100g of Punjabi Prime
-chamomile tea (used two tea bags...not sure how much water)
-a few squirts of honey

I let it sit for 12 hours and then apply it late at night.

Here's a picture after my last henna. My natural hair color is black, but I colored it "red" in July (my hair is so dark and thick that it came out brownish). The henna really adds a lot of shine and color:

Thanks girl! I love the color, shine, and strengthy that henna brings!

You really don't need a stylist to do it. It looks/seems difficult, but you can do it yourself. Its pretty easy! I get my henna from here http://www.hennaforhair.com/ and used their little e-book for instructions http://www.hennaforhair.com/freebooks/hennaforhair.pdf.

I did my first henna treatment last night! I think it went really well, My hair feels reeeeally soft today, and the curls are a little bit more obedient lol.

I mixed a 100g pack of Mehandi Henna for African Hair with 3 cups strong green tea and 4 tbsp of castor oil. Only needed a little bit, froze the rest since my hair's not too long yet. Left it in over night, rinsed and co-washed it out this morning with Suave Naturals Ocean Breeze, and used shea butter and jojoba oil to two-strand twist.

I got a really smooth consistency to the mix, and I can't wait until i start seeing some more long term results. Smile Will definitely be doing this again in about a month!

Enough green tea to make a paste like consistency, a little coconut oil, honey, water that I infused with horsetail, chamomile, and lemon balm herbs. I didn't mix these all together at once. I've done a few different mixes and honestly the simpler the better in my opinion.

Green tea & Henna
or
Herb infused water & Henna
or
Herb infused water, henna, and conditioner(LOVED THIS, COURTIE recommended it as a henna gloss)

I like Karishma BECAUSE it has the other things already added although soon I may be adding some extra amla powder to my mix. Smile

I mixed my henna with beet juice and yogurt. The beet juice is supposed to give me a more auburn color. The henna paste turned a burgundy color!

Post by soulsearch72 28th December 2009, 3:30 am

Hi girls!! I did my first henna dye this morning. I've been dyeing my hair for the 3-4 years. I usually do it once or twice a year. With that said..My last color was put in April/May ish. My hair is an auburn color. The Henna just enhanced this color. I love having red hair. My hair is fire!

The first pic is before..a twist out from either a flat twist or cornroll. I wear two with the part down the middle. Really grade school. LOL..

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

The other pic is right after I washed and rinsed the conditioner out. I think my color looks rich again. It was really fading out.

I definitely had more definition. The moon and stars have to be aligned for me to get my hair to look like that when it's dry. BTW..I don't know my hair type..so if anyone can tell..I would love to know.

Can you color your hair after you have used henna? A stylist told me you could not. I have used henna in months, but it left a red tint to my hair the last time I used it. I was just wondering about addtional color, if I wanted to use it later...

Post by Sunflower 2nd January 2010, 3:04 am

Ok ladies, I have completed two sessions of Henna treatments and below are my mixes:

(Before each session i washed my hair with my hadny black soap and applyed henna while it was wet but not dripping wet)

First treatment: 12/18/09
100g henna (Al Maroosa)
2 tbs honey
2 cups green tea (4 brewed bags)
1/2 tbs lemon juice
1/2 tbs olive oil
(after I mixed this I froze it for a week)

Second treatment: 12/23/09
200g henna (Reshma)
2 cups of green tea (4 bags brewed)
1/2 warm water
4 tbs of castor oil
1/2 tbs honey
(mixed at 9:45 pm and set overnight before putting in after 6pm the next day)

I wrapped head with siran wrap and let sit overnight. Washed it out the next morning after 8am using cheap conditioner (Suave from 1 Dollar store) as a co-wash. That took about 6 washes (I didnt use glove to wash out the 1st time and my hands, cuticles, and nails were very dry after with the henna tint). Deep condition with a mixture of Lustersilk cholesterol shea butter conditioner, olive oil, and castor oil (the reason i use a LOT of oil is because Im a VERY dry person -thanks dad!- and I have to use extra moisture to get at least normal people skin). 1st session I just let that sit on my head for over 2 hours. 2nd session I added Carol Daughter;s Black vanilla moisture smoothie conditioner (I love this stuff) and let it set under a heat cap for over an hour. After that I did the protective style (2 strand twist - twist for a week then un-twist for the next) which I put in a little bit of Carols Daughter, castor oil, olive oil, and sealed ends with sheabutter and olive oil mixed. The first treatment my hair was dry but the second treatment I skip the lemon juice and added more oil which my hair had less dryness. After both treatments I notice I had way more less shedding and my hair was stronger and a reddish tint color that can be seen in different shades of light. I did have an itchy scalp so i gotta search and see what can be done about that. Overall, Im most certainly hooked on this stuff due to its naturalness. Also, Im thinning around my edges and hey this seems to have good reveiws so what the heck! I ordered 500g of Jamilla henna from Butters-N-Bars and I have frozen the mixed from 2nd session left and will use it for my next treatment. Hope this helps anyone who wish or use Henna on thier hair. I took pictures of both sessions along with current products being used but I did know how to post them (sorry). have agreat new year my natural sistas and Henna On!!!

This particular time, my mix was:
Jamila Henna(1 box)
Maka powder (2 tbsp)
Amla powder (1 tbsp)
Brahmi powder (1 tbsp)
Orange Peaoke tea (1 cup water, 2 tea bags)
Lemon Juice (2-3 quick squeezes)
Pure Coconut Oil (mix in right before application, enough for smooth pudding like consistency)

After rinsing I deep coditioned, applied a leave in and oil to seal--air dried in 4 braids. When dry, I twisted it up and a few days later this was my untwisted hair, pinned up:

Post by Mrs. Hudson 9th January 2010, 7:53 pm

Okay after reading alot of posts on Henna I am thinking about doing it!! Now my concern is that I have read online that it changes your curl pattern, I really love my curl pattern in the front of my hair but towards the middle the curls are a little looser and not as tightly coiled as the front. With that said has anyone experienced a curl pattern change that they did/didn't like? Also does the color come out every time you wash your hair? Last but not least my hair is a weird color, it's not black & it's not brown but in the sunlight it has a pretty reddish tint to it, When I wear hair weaves I normally get a 1b/30 mix...I really like reddish brown tints, so how can I get the Henna close to that kind of color?

Hey ladies, my apologies for the delay but here are the photos!!!

I
used Mehandi Henna and it was only $15 for the henna and indigo
bundle....the last time I purchased it it was $30 each!!! So this is a
great deal! The henna is very fine and rinses out easily!!
http://www.mehandi.com/shop/blackbundles/index.html

This is what you receive including instruction!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]]

I
mixed the henna with freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 egg, olive oil and
macadamia nut oil covered it with plastic wrap and let it sit for 8
hours before putting it on my hair.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Let the henna sit on my hair for 3 hours

Let the indigo sit on my hair for 2 hours

This is the texture of my hair now! Softer, more manageable and a looser curl!!!

I used

Herbal Henna
Lemon Juice
Honey
One egg
EVOO
Jojoba oil

I kept this on for 3hrs DC overnight and rinsed out in the morning, I then applied my Cantu Shea Butter as my leave in. Didn't get the color I was looking for but will watch for a day or two for changes. My hair is very soft!

Hi every one I am new and I've never tried henna but I just bought some today but have no clue how to use it. I'm hoping that I brought the right thing since I want to have a reddish hue and not a black or dark hue. I bought mine at the Indian and Pakistan grocer near my home, it's called Seasons Dulhan Herbs Henna(Henna Mehandi Powder) the ingrediants are as follows: Pure Henna, Amla, Shikakai, Aritha, Bhringraj and selected herbs as described in Century old Indian Vedas.....Okay so what do I do now and how do I know what color this will change my hair....help please[img]

Welcome Angelic7! OMG there are so many way to do this. There is a thread called "Lets talk henna" When I started that is where I went its full of ideas you will have to decide what will work best for you also go to the beginning of this thread and read all the way through, you will find different recipes. I did one but will do again in a month because I didn't get the color I wanted. Don't be discouraged if you don't get it on the first try it is very much trial and error learning what your hair likes as far as ingredients. Good luck and don't forget to post pictures!!
