Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Ok so I am sure someone has answered the following questions I am about to ask, so someone else step up and please answer this lost soul...
What exactly is Henna?
Where do you get it from?
How often are you supposed to do it?
And what are the benefits of it?
Also... how do I get my own concoction???
Thanks guys,
Alex

Hey girl, I'm gonna try your method....leaving Henna in for three hours then overnight DC. I plan to put the Henna in tonight before 7pm (I'm a night owl!) Will let you know how it worked!

Thank you Naturalhonney I will do that, I'll read through and see what I want to use. I'm just going to take my time and hopefully when I am ready to put it in it will turn out great. I don't think I want to use the lemon those since mine has the Amla in it and they say that has the acid component in it already, Lord knows I don't need any scalp issues.

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
@naturalhonney I know that you said this was not the color you were striving for, but it look great just the same. From what I see on my computer your hair looks like a rich dark brown color, which is the same exact color that I am looking to obtain on my hair. Is it a drk brwn or deep blk color?

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
@Maricopa~ I wouldn't say its a drk brwn, when I pull the front back with my hands I see a burgundy tint very subtle which is the only way I can see any color at all. From a distance I'm sure it looks to be black. I'm doing it over again in 3wks going to tweak it and see if I get different result! Good luck with yours!

100g Reshma Henna
about 1 cup of green tea
about 5 tablespoons honey
Reshma henna usually releases color quickly, so I apply it right to my hair and leave it in (with a heating cap) for 5 to 6 hours or overnight. The next morning, I rinse, deep condition, and that's it! I LOVE henna!

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Hello everyone,
I tried Dark of the Moon from Mehandi.com and I absolutely love it. I
have really course thick hair and never get a sheen, naturally. After my application a few days ago (21 jan) it's been shiny and soft. And
best of all, I can comb my ROOTS. Hurray![You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
1 Dark of the Moon packet
4 Green tea bags
2 cups of h20
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp honey
Left to sit for a few minutes while I washed my hair, then applied and slept overnight. Got to figure out how to make it leak proof... my poor pillow cases.

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Fritter Fritter I love your results. Very pretty! To control leaking try to add less water. Was it in a pastey consistency? The very first time I henna'd it was too runny and it was leaking all down my neck. There was no way I could sleep in it. lol It would've been all over the place.
Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Thanks AfrikanLatina, that sounds ideal. That's what I'd do on my next application...sensible [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] I sometimes get so caught sticking to a regimen that I forget to apply logic...aaaah. Instead of 2 cups i'll start with 1 cup.

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
I did my first ever henna last night. It was so exciting. I have full pics on my fotki which is located in my signature. I had dyed my hair black about 2 months ago but with constant washing and deep conditioning treatments with honey my hair had lightened to a brownish color. Here my mix and a before, during and after picture:
100 grams of Mashhoor henna
1/4 cup of ground coffee
2 cups of chamomile tea made with filtered water(no green tea in apt)
2 tbs of honey
3 squirts of lemon juice
2 tsp of ground ginger root(for smell)

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Ok, I'm doing my first henna application right now as we speak. I used an herbal henna mix I put the name of it on another post. It has amla mixed in with the henna along with some other herbs. Here's my mix:
1 box of herbal henna
1.5 cups of steeped chamomile tea (3 bags..may have been a lil less that 1.5 I just eye balled it)
4 tblsp of honey
3 tblsp of olive oil
2 tsp of paprika
I'll follow up with pictures and an update on how it went a lil later.

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
@FemmeFox,I heard someone on here say they use coconut milk in their henna so I decided to do it too.but instead of boiling the lemon juice with the hibiscus flowers I just used coconut milk. on the other hand,I just rinsed out my henna and I can tell that it loosen up my curls a little and my hair is soft. but I don't see any color. I wonder when it'll show?????
Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
I did my henna treatment yesterday and it seems like my hair is darker but in the light I can see a red hue so I'll wait a couple days and see how it turns out. I had a hard time getting all the little bits and pieces or herbs out of my hair I assume I should have sifted the dry mix. I deepconditioned it after I cowashed it 4 times, I dp'd for about 3hrs then put cantu shea butter leave-in cond. and sealed that with olive oil.

I henna'd!
I finally did it! One month of being natural and going strong!! Last week I henna'd for the first time. I henna'd for strengthening and conditioning purposes, but didn't want the color; so I added a raw egg to my mix to prevent the dye release. I got the color anyway, but its still cute, just different. I have brown hair so the color def showed! I applied it immediately after mixing (again not wanting the dye to release), and left it on with a plastic cap for 6hrs. Afterwards; I washed washed washed and conditioned conditioned conditioned; then did a DT. I followed that up with some leave-in conditioner and shea butter.
Here's my mix:
150g Jamila Henna
4 (or so) cups of green tea
2 tbs olive oil
5 tbs of honey
1 egg

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
I just picked up some cinnamon sticks and cloves for my next mix. How do I use it? Do I soak the cinnamon and cloves in the liquid I choose and then mix with the henna or do I mix the cinnamon and cloves together with the henna and let sit that way? Please help!

Re: Submit Your Mix and a Picture
Hey ladies! Last night I did my second henna treatment ever. I also did indigo afterwards. I didn't get the jet black color I was looking for but rather a dark chocolatey brown. Anywhoo I've uploaded pics in my fotki(located in signature) but I noticed my texture did loosen after this second treatment which I hadn't anticipated. I like it though. You can see the waviness in this pic:
