Protecting hair during the winter months
Hi Ladies-
I am just wondering other than braids how are you protecting your hair during the winter months from snags. I am transtitiong and my hair is a little pass my ear (sorry I haven't posted any pics yets) and it is snagging on everything (sweaters/coats.) What are you doing to prevent snags and keep your hair health doing the winter?
Peace and Blessings

Re: Protecting hair during the winter months
When I am out I wear a beanie hat with a silk cap underneath. My hair isn't very long, but my jackets do rub it and the cold air can be harsh on your hair.
Re: Protecting hair during the winter months
I wear hats when possible, buns, twists, and updos. So far I have retained a lot of length this way and this is the first winter that I have not have anyone coming behind me to help get the hair off the back of my shirt/sweater, etc.

I use twists and it sometimes I bun my twists when I go out and my hair is quite moist and protected this way

It feels kinda granny at first, but when I wear my hair down I wear a silk scarf around my sholders and my hair doesnt snag on that. I match it with my outfit and make it look sylish of course! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I ensure my ends are coated with oil. You can also coat them with a butter. I like coconut oil, castor oil, EVOO and mango butter. If my hair is loose, I apply the oil/butter at least three times a day (morning, midday & evening).

So do you carry an oil or butter with you during the day?

when I had my twist i would oil them in evoo and put them up in a ponytail and down when i got home and wore my bonnet. to protect my hair in the back.

Thank you Ladies-
I don't mine looking like an old woman [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] , I am going to break out my silk scarfs tonight. My signature style is a straw set so I will try to pin it up. I haven't done twist so that is my next style. I will def moisturize my hair more. Thanks again ladies.
Tia- I looked on your blog and I love it. Do you do your own hair (the middle twist?) Also did you used the conditioner shea butter daily?

Thank You
Yes, I do my own hair. I'm too frugal to pay anyone else to do it, LOL. I used the shea mostly after washing or cowashing when I am styling. I am thinking about incorporating it into my morning routine. The air is really dry this year and I feel like I need some armor
Re: Protecting hair during the winter months
I think that's a good idea that way the hair is conditioned and moisturized. I am going to try it. Thanks

Re: Protecting hair during the winter months
I like to wear snood/hair nets during the winter under my hatfor protection---then once I take off my hat my hair stays off of my shoulder, coat, scarf etc...as well. I can take it off and fluffy my hair, or keep the snood/net on.
The holes in mine are a little smaller, but it looks like this for those who don't know what it is (Imay have the name of it incorrect lol)

Re: Protecting hair during the winter months
@Jonezy: I was just looking at those earlier this week. I was contemplating on making one or two for some winter protection. I would like one to just fit over a bun but I feel like that might make me look old.
