When you do smaller twists, how do you separate them? How long do you allow them to "set?"
I usually leave them in for a day. I separate them by putting a little oil on my fingers and unraveling them from the end of the twists and them pull them apart from the ends. As I think about it, the last time I tried smaller twists, I think I was doing them on completely wet hair. I've since altered my routine to twist on damp hair, so I wonder if that could have anything to do with it???
No, no, no! @ the bold statement above. When you unravel your twist, untwist it in the opposite direction, which will cause an opening near the root...separate from the root.
If I do my twist small, I only have to separate the two strands and lift at the root with my pic for volume. I hope this makes sense. I am terrible at explaining things.

Re: **traveljunkie08**
It makes sense. Maybe I would have to make them smaller/more twists if I just wanted to unravel them and fluff. Most of the frizz comes in when I try to separate AND fluff to cover the parts.
*Sigh* Maybe I'll try one day next week. About how many twists do you do when you do a twist out?

It does! Thanks! Don't know why I didn't think to take a look at one of your pics to see how many twists you do.

Re: **traveljunkie08**
Just check out the thread. You are so creative. I have to go write down what I have but I will definitely do it tonight.
I did so good when I was transitioning and the first few months of being natural. I didnt buy anything until I used up what I had. Then CurlyNikki started this forum and I lost my mind.
I am ready!! My hubby is already doubting me. He is an enabler too. He always tell me to buy new products if I want too.

Re: **traveljunkie08**
TJ you are not alone! I am constantly seeking the perfect twist out. I am praying the twist I have in now are successful! I do notice that my twist don't get a juicy as Lynn's I think my hair is thinner. I will keep you posted.
Re: **traveljunkie08**
I think my hair is fine too, so I'm kinda thinking twist outs may not work until I have more/longer hair. But I'm going to try again before I come to that conclusion.

I just want to say I am so glad that you started that challenge in the general section because we need that. I will not be entering the challenge because I stopped myself (with alot of help from husband ) from buying any more products when I was in the middle of my transition.
And so what, your hair may not be able to twist . I love your wash-n-gos. You have FABULOUS hair!!!!

I've aired my dirty laundry. I think my list maybe longer than yours.
Dont give up on your twist out yet. If you try my technique and it doesnt work, then you have my permission to give up.

@Intelligentbeauty: That's great that you were able to get things under control. I seriously doubt that I'll ever acquire this much stuff again. I liked to WnG too. It was so easy. I'll probably end up alternating between that style and a curly fro most often.
@Lynn: I'll definitely try again. I just can't be spending hours twisting my hair so even if it does turn out better I'll probably only do it every once in a while until my hair gets a little longer.

Re: **traveljunkie08**
TJ don't give up. I was successful this time and day 2 it's still holding up. I used a combination of refined shea butter and my hair nectar from Pooka. I whipped them together until the shea butter was light and fluffy. I think it weighed my hair down thus the good results. I did mist my hair a bit so it was damp, but not to much because for me water encourages the shrinkage!! HTH

Travel Junkie-
I'm new to your thread, but I will certainly follow you during the BnB challenge.
Your hair is gorgeous.

@sweet: You know, there's probably something to the weighing down thing. I may try doing it w/ KBB's hair cream which is a little heavier than other stuff I've been using. Thanks for the tip!

Re: **traveljunkie08**
With all the recent talk about post-BC dryness, I had some flashbacks to how dry my hair was after I did my big chop and how different it looks nearly three months later.
Right after the BC (wet w/ conditioner):
About a month after my BC (water only):
Almost 2 months after my BC (water only):
Next week it'll be my three month anniversary, so I'll update this post with another pic. But even over the last two months, you can clearly see that my hair is no where near as dry as it was after I BCd. In the first pic, my hair doesn't even look wet.
So to all the recent BCers: (hopefully) your hair will never again be as dry as it as after you BC. Just be patient and keep moisturizing your hair and it'll start to look better.

WOWWWWW! This really gives me some hope. Once I combat the dryness and get a lil more length I'll definitely be on your way. Your hair looks totally different between right after and the 3 month point! I'm excited now to see what mine does.

TJ- Thank you so much for posting this....
Last night I fell asleep thinking about my BC and the dryness. I'm happy to be rid of the relaxed ends, but I'm surprised at how dry my hair is...
all trying to "perfect" the twist out.
I think I read were you cowashed alot after your bc for about a week? What conditioner do/did you use? Also any other tips would be great. Any other recent BCers experiencing dryness PLEASE chime in.
