Re: **traveljunkie08**
Courtney, oils helped with my dryness. If I shampoo, I pre poo with oils overnight. If I co wash, I wet my hair first, add my oil (I prefer olive oil), then add the conditioner on top of the oil. Hope this helps.

@Intelligent: I thought it'd be helpful. A pic is definitely worth a thousand words in this case.
@JnB: I'm glad it gives you hope. As the days and weeks go by, you'll be surprised at how much your own hair changes!
@Vmichelle & Pinkrage: Thanks!

Re: **traveljunkie08**
@Courtney: As with Lynnieluve, oils (EVOO specifically) helped me too. I either pre-poo w/ EVOO or DC before every co-wash, and both when I shampoo. Even with using oils though, it took a while for the post-BC dryness to go away. And I did co-wash everyday for a week to help with the dryness.
I use the usual suspects (HE, AO, Giovanni and Suave) plus other random things I find to co-wash. I think Karen's Body Beautiful and Qhemet Biologics helped take my moisture game to the next level. Through trial and error, you'll find what works best for your hair. Try to keep a journal of what you used and how your hair felt to keep track of what you think works and doesn't for your hair. I found that helpful.

@Courtney: I forgot to answer one other question you asked about the diff between a twist out and a chunky twist out/curly fro. In my mind, a twist out is done with a lot of small twists, resulting in a curly/spiraly kind of look. It looks neat and sleek, in my opinion. A chunky twist out is done with fewer twists (I do 12), and your hair is bigger, more fro-like but with a curl. I also roll them sometimes to make it looks curlier. Not sure if that's how others see it, but that's the difference to me. Here are pics to show the difference.
Twist out:
Chunky twist out/curly fro (used rollers):
If I don't use rollers, it's just bigger. Kinda like this:
The pic quality isn't that great since it was taken with my computer, but I think you get it. Lynnieluve has great twists and twist outs, so check her thread for tips. HTH!

Re: **traveljunkie08**
So ladies, for the last couple of days, I've been wearing a chunky twist out (I did my hair on Saturday). Today would have been day 3 of wearing the style but after unraveling the twists, I decided it was a no go. It was frizzy (I only styled w/ KBB hair milk) and just didn't look right. I started racking my brain trying to figure out how to style my hair w/o re-washing it because I needed to leave, and then it came to me: IntelligentBeauty's Rosa Parks roll!
Several minutes and several bobby pins later, this is what I came up with:
I think it turned out pretty well. I had a hard time making the back as neat as IntelligentBeauty's, but I'll keep practicing!
This evening, I decided to wash my hair and try to slick it back into a ponytail. Not sure if I used to much gel or what but I got this icky white stuff in my hair and had to co-wash again. So I'm sitting here with a flour sack towel on my head (thanks for the info about these, ChrsLvsBks!!!) trying to figure out what to do with it. The good news is since I co-washed 2x tonight and DCd, I can mark two more products off my "use your stash" list.

Thanks! Which twists? If you mean doing small ones, I just don't feel like spending the time. That's why I was hoping I could do a ponytail. I might try flat twists. Or I might just end up going to be doing nothing.

Re: **traveljunkie08**
What I gathered from Chrs is that the flour sack towel is good for drying the hair w/o frizz much like a micro fiber towel or t-shirt. I like to style my hair when damp, so I used it last night to help that process along. Worked just as well as (if not better than) my microfiber towel and was a lot less expensive (4 towels for about $5; I paid $8 for one microfiber towel from Marshall's). I imagine it'll be particularly helpful when doing wash n go's. I'm not sure why it works or if there's more to it, so maybe Chrs will pop-in and let us know.
Chrs talks about flour sacks on page 11 of her thread.

Re: **traveljunkie08**
Last night, I didn't feel like doing anything to my hair, so I put it in two afro puffs. I look 12, so I'd never wear this look in public.
I think I might be allergic to coconut oil. I've been using EVCO on my skin since my hair didn't like it and have had the itchies as a result. My scalp has been itching lately too (it's really bad today). The only thing different that I've been using is the Suave coconut condish but I didn't think there was enough coconut oil in it to cause a problem. I'm trashing the EVCO today and I finished up the Suave last night, so I hope the itchies go away.
