tiashauntee wrote:For years my scalp has been sore on and off in the center of my head. I don't style in tight styles and I not a rough handler of my hair. I have no clue what this is. When I Google it all I come up with are that it is because of allergens, tight ponytails, and pulling. It's not an allergic reaction because it's only sore in one spot, I use all my products all over.
Ugh, I am clueless and it really hurts today so I am annoyed.
I have this same problem. It was like that when I was relaxed too. Whenever it was time to get a relaxer, my head would get really sore. That's how I knew it was time for a touch up. Now that I am natural, I just thought my head was going through withdrawal. LOL! I know you stated you have never been relaxed so I dont know what it is. I have noticed that it is sore where my hair is the thickest and grows the fastest. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
My scalp is hurting so bad that I had to take my bun down and massage it. I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow I would not even touch it.
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
The dermatoligist told me its follicular inflamation (spelling could be wrong) they really couldnt explain why. mine is sore but sometimes i have bumps that burst or hurt then they go away.
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
I had my husband check my scalp and he did see anything.....this is truly a mystery
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
So I took my hair down, co-washed, and now I am sitting around looking like:
Because my scalp STILL HURTS!

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
i had this same problem! just like Lynnieluve said, mine getting sore used to be indicator to me that it was time for another relaxer.... after doing my own little research, i didnt come up with much either, except that it must be some sort of inflamation, like my girl SheeTacular said.... it used to itch really bad in the same spot (the very center of my head).... as a matter of fact, whenever i have experienced breakage, its always been in that exact same spot... but since being natural, i decided to start using Tea Tree Oil on my scalp.... i figured if its inflammation, the tt oil should help calm it down.... and OH DID IT! i have no more soreness OR itchiness! i ran out of my tt oil and couldnt get to a whole foods to purchase more, so i picked up Parnevu Tea Tree Scalp Oil from Wal-Mart. It is like 4 bucks (half of what i paid for the pure tt oil in whole foods), doesnt have any bad ingredients (to my knowledge) and works just as well, in my opinion.... just thought i would share!
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Oh cool, so cyclomethicone isn't bad necessarily. My scalp does the same thing at the very top of my head. My aunt had some weird urban legend about the soft spot not filling in properly...

Terra,
I didnt realize cyclomethicone was in there! but it is way down the list, too.... im not sure y cones are so taboo, but when i said no bad ingredients, i meant no petrolatum or mineral oil.... of course there r more harmful products than just those two.... all i know is that the stuff works... my hair is growing wonderfully, and i have no more sore/itchy scalp.... try at ur own discretion. if u r afraid of the cones, dont buy them. the pure tea tree oil is effective as well.... HTH!

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
i would also like to add that i looked cyclomethicone up on www.cosmeticsdatabase.com, and on a scale of 1-10, its hazard rating was 1-2. It is described there as ANTISTATIC; EMOLLIENT; HAIR CONDITIONING; HUMECTANT; SOLVENT; VISCOSITY CONTROLLING.
www.3dchem.com had this to say about this particular cone:
"Cyclomethicone is used as a base solvent to blend with fragrance
oils and perfume oils. Cyclomethicone is a clear, odorless silicone. It
leaves a silky-smooth feel when sprayed on the skin. Ideal for body
sprays, lotions creams, bath salts, hair care, linen sprays etc.
Cyclomethicone stays completely blended and crystal clear without
shaking.
Cyclomethicones are unmodified silicones
that possess a cyclical structure rather than the chain structures of
dimethyl silicones. Low heat of vaporization and the ability to select
a desired vapor pressure has led their use as cosmetic vehicles.
Unmodified silicones stay on or near the surface of the skin. Not only
are the molecules too big to physically enter past the upper living
cells, they associate with the upper layer of drying skin but they also
cannot penetrate cell membranes due to their large size.
Cyclomethicones
evaporate quickly after helping to carry oils into the top layer of
epidermis. From there, they may be absorbed by the skin.
Cyclomethicones perform a similar function in hair care products by
helping nutrients enter the hair shaft." (http://www.3dchem.com/molecules.asp?ID=315)
still, i would use my own discretion in deciding whether or not to use a product with this ingredient, but as i said before, its done very well on my scalp, so i will keep using it!

Hump Day, Hump Day, Hump Day
It is raining cats and dogs out there. I am so happy it's casual day because of course I have a hat on.....covering my Ms Celie twists. My scalp is still a little tender but at least it's only in two spots. I don't think I would be able to take it if it was sore all over.
My mom used to tell me that when my scalp is sore that means my hair is growing. If that is true then this is going to suck. I'll have two sections of really long hair...not a good look.

Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
Tia I experimented last night because I have been experiencing itching and soreness this last week. I used to have often when I was relaxed but this year of being natural not so much. I wonder if its the cold weather that's making it worse. Anyway I see Free2009 answered with my suggestion. Last night I went home and parted my hair down the middle which I rarely do because of the balding and whatnot...anywho. I could feel the stubble and a couple of rough spots (not sure what else to call them) I didn't want to scratch it and damage the growing hair so I got my castor oil and put about 4 drops of tea tree oil and 4 drops of lavendar oil in it. I shook it up and applied generously in that area. This morning it feels so much better. I haven't been twisting it either just big fro until I feel better. Obviously you have more hair than me so that may not be a good option for you. Anyway, I hope this helps I need to go cuz I'm rambling. Let me know how it goes.
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
I have been eyeing tea tree oil for a while. I guess now I have a reason to purchase it. I wish Wal-mart sold it because it's the only place close to my job.
Re: ♥ tiashauntee ♥
i agree with Terra D...it might be that good old soft spot! I know my head use to do that when i relaxed but i havent experienced it while natural...IDK but i sure hope it get better...

Today's Hair
I do my hair when I don't have to work, LOL
I'm heading out to hang with my BFF. We live about an hour apart so we both took the day off to hang out because we don't get to do it often. I will also be seeing my adorable godson (yay!!!)

Tea Tree Oil
TGIF! TGIF!
════════════════════════
So yesterday I went and purchased some tea tree essential oil. I almost left it in the store after smelling it. I do not like that smell! Last night I co-washed my hair, detangled and spray a mixture with the tea tree oil in it on my hair. I mixed organic aloe vera gel, distilled water, and tea tree oil. This morning my scalp feels a whole lot better. No itching and the soreness is almost non-existent.
I realized after I did my hair (twists all over) that I used all natural products to style: tea tree oil, aloe vera, shea butter, coconut oil, rosemary oil, lavender oil
Many of these items were mixed together. So in all I used two mixtures.
This morning I was suffering from HIH disease (LOL) and noticed that my hair is really really soft and has a nice sheen to it.
My hair was still a little damp in some places and it's cold out.....HAT DAY!!
I actually purchased 4 more hats this week... and finally found a chocolate brown one that I like.
