Quick Info about hair:

Had awesome hair as a child. Got my first relaxer in 5th grade, broke off my hair, stopped getting relaxers. Then, I decided to give relaxing another shot in the seventh grade lol. Broke off my hair, stopped getting relaxers. All during this, I slathered on that brown gel from the BSS (ya'll know what I'm talking about, that Prostyle crap, I think) or Jam (lol), brushing everyday and put my hair up in a bun or ponytail. Every. Single. Day. I washed once a week (never DC-ing), blowfried my hair (no heat protectant), and yeah. During the ninth grade, I discovered that I could air dry my hair and it would be curly So, I stopped blow drying. Still didn't DC, but it was a start. Last summer, I somehow discovered cowashing, and would cowash and then put my hair in a wet bun Which resulted in awful broken off hair haha.

And that pretty much brings us here. I don't remember how I found Curly Nikki, but thank Buddha I did.

As for a regimen, I wash my hair once a week , DC once a week, and style once a week. I'm in the twist challenge right now, so it's just been a bunch of twists and twist outs. I moisturize daily, sometimes twice a day if I feel like it. I henna once a month.

Conditioners: Herbal Essences Hello Hydration, Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner, V05 Moisture Milk Passionfruit Smoothie, Trader Joes Nourish Spa Conditioner
Moisturizers (Stylers at in italic): CD's Tui Leave In Conditoner w/ EVCO and EVOO added, Qhemet Biologics Alma and Olive Heavy Cream, Whipped Shea butter w/ EVCO, CD's Mimosa Hair Honey, QB's Karkady Tea Replenishing Mist


The oil I use for my scalp is Black Onyx's Hair Growth Oil. I also spritz my hair with her hair perfume.

Other products I have (that I'd like to use or use already):
Organix Coconut Milk Instant Repair Treatment (just purchased, so never used)
Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel (used on occasion)
Miss Jessie's Curly Pudding & Curly Buttercreme (never used)
Queen Helene Jojoba Hot Oil Treatment (never used)
S-Curl No Drip Activator Moisturizer (:S lol I heard good things about it, but when I applied it, it left my hair feeling disgusting

My hair today:

I sprayed my hair with my Tui Leave In and then put on the Mimosa Hair Honey.






I think I'm gonna take out my twists, cowash my hair, band it, and then twist or braid it up using one of these Miss Jessies things. I feel icky all over because it was super humid today.


Oh and btw, the title of my thread is a song (Chia Like, I Shall Grow) by my favorite band (Say Anything)...so yeah haha.

So.....change of plans. I decided not to wear my hair out tomorrow since it'll be thunderstorming I washed and am currently DC-ing getting ready to get twisted back up. I am doing a style inspired by our local style queen, Tia.

Hahaha. Okay...so I didn't do the style. I tried for like ten minutes, but gave up (I have little patience ESPECIALLY when it comes to my hair. I'll randomly snip it off if I'm frustrated ) So, I just did some mini twists. I started at 10:30 PM and didn't finished until almost 4:00 AM

I used the Mimosa Hair Honey and TJs Nourish Spa Conditioner to style on my wet hair.

Thanks :] I LOVE the Mimosa Hair Honey, in fact, after I go to the doctor on Thursday (hopefully) I can go get some more I'm not really sure how to use the QB mist to be completely honest. So, I've just been spritzing my scalp with it, since I'm out of the hair growth oil hahaha

It is so awesome and delightful to have you on the thread. It's so refreshing to see a young person seem so aware of themselves. I don't think I would've had the courage to go natural at such a young age. And your hair looks awesome! Looks like a young Tia head of hair.

Thanks JnB! As far as being aware of myself, I still have so much to learn and so much time to develop as a woman (eep!). It's scary to think that in a few months, I'll be 17 And hehe, I only went natural cause my hair was falling out Regardless, BC or not, I definitely feel different after starting my HHJ.

I love those twist!!! Now, let's see how long you can keep them...

Thanks! Probably not long at all My twists always end up looking really busted after about three days. Now that I've stopped styling with shea butter, there isn't any white stuff in my
hair, but the fuzz and random pieces of hair somehow coming out of the twists live on. I'm wondering if it's because I do my twists semi-loose. I'm just scared of breakage from too tight twists Any advice?

Karyn, I was having the same problem. I just figured out that my shea butter mix does not have enough hold for my twist to look nice for 5 days. I would have random pieces of hair just come completely out of the twist and they would be frizzy by day 2. This week I used Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter to do my twist and today, they still look like they did yesterday.
