5 months
Im in my 5th month and I am starting to love my hair. It is soft and manageable and I am learning new things to do with it. This journey is turning from what started off as a horrible nightmare into a beautiful dream come true. I just hope that I am able to stay on this path. thx to all who post here. You all are true inspiration.

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
The months are passing by so quickly.
This forum is fantastic. I celebrated my 5 months naturaly anniversary November 19 and haven't looked back yet.
Does anyone have any great transitioning styles to share? I'm freshly out of braids and looking to start again with my styles and would like to start anew. My faithful and trusty transition style is the rod set but I'll be checking YouTube for more transition styles also.
Have a great day and a wonderful hair journey.

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
Good to see you back in the forum Sonja and thanks for the message :-) I have decided to redo the braids around my edges and try to keep them in a little while longer. We'll see how that goes, it will be my first time.
Someone else posted this video of a bun that I thought was really cute. I was thinking of doing a variation of it - maybe you can use it:

I hope this next month will be a really good one!

LOL@Butterfly... girl, I am the WRONG one 'cause I have been on this ledge for a while now and it seems like I've moved a tv and some snacks up here with me HAHA. Sonja took the plunge! Others have too! These 2 textures are driving me crazy... oh boy, where are my scissors!

BAHAHAHAHAH@ jazzwife...girl, you are too funny! Back away from the scissors. I think I'm just gonna try to at least make it to summer because I think if I do make it to summer, the hot Las Vegas temps will do me in for sure...lol. You are so right about these 2 textures. I almost BC'd yesterday while doing my rod set. If one more rod top popped off that was gonna be it...

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
LOL @ jazzwife and Butterfly125 you two are hilarious!
I'ma little anxious about the BC this Friday and I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one tempted to grab the shears. I'll also be happy not having to deal with my rod sets for a while (ugh those dreaded elastic bands do snap and aggravate the hell out of me too).
Okay I've got to stop it's hard typing on an elliptical machine.

LOL!!! @ NaturallySonja...girl, I thought I was the only one...hahaha! I know you're a little anxious, but seeing as how you've made the decision to do it, you are ready, and you are going to be so relieved. I look at the BC as another stage in the natural journey, more hairstyles to try, my products, more accessories...yep, it's gonna be great!

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
I keep asking my husband if I can cut it (he doesn't like short hair) and he's like 'can you let it grow a LITTLE longer first), plus he knows I can be just impulsive sometimes, lol. So, I've backed away from the scissors for now - but I am over here twitching and scratching, lol.
@Sonja, I can't wait to see your hair!!!

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
I have always worn my hair in short pixy-type cuts while it was relaxed, so my husband is used to it. As a natural, though, I want long hair because of the versatility. I'm just going to go as long as I can without the BC. If I could just learn how to do something other than a rod set, I might be able to hold on longer...lol! I'm going to attempt a twist out this friday. Wish me luck

I'm getting there!
I'm not quite 5 months. But I love that I see the transformation of my hair. I was thinking about cutting the rest of the relaxed hair out next month but I may wait a few more months before I cut it to the natural hair. I had to cut the relaxed ends off back in October and I'm loving the length and that it's much easier to manage now.

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
Hey, Brownsuga83, your hair in your avi is really cute. What styles do you do?
I just came back to report that my attempted twist out was a DISASTERRRR!! I went right back to my tried and true rod set. But I am off work until Jan. 3 so I will be trying other things...we'll see

Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
Thank You! What does AVI mean? LOL I'm a newbie. But my staple transtition style now is the two strand twist and then I put the twist in bantu knots. I let it air dry and then take the twist apart and finger comb my hair. I'm still learning what my hair likes. So far Shea Butter and Cantu Butter are working great. And of course water. I think I try just putting my hair in bantu knots without doing the two strand twist this weekend. I'll put up a picture if I do. I'm looking for other styles myself. Any takers?! Good luck on your hair Butterfly!!!
Re: 5 Months Post Relaxer
LOL...Avi means your avatar picture. That's ok, I didn't know what it meant when I first came here either. I plan on trying a bantu knot out and a flexirod set while I'm off. I think if I can master 3 styles (that would include my rod set that I've already got down) while I'm transitioning, I'll be able to transition longer.

Butterfly125 did you try the bantu knot and flexirod set? How did it turn out?
