Good evening... So, I'm sitting here with dc-ing my hair. I decided to wash my hair a day early because I sweat like crazy during a volunteer event I attended today. My hair was super poofy afterward so I decided to restart. Anyway, I was thinking about a conversation I had on Sunday. My sometimes former stylist attends my church and when I saw her on Mothers Day during service, she was smiling and saying she had something for me. She was so joyous about it that I thought she had a gift for me. Well, she did. The gift was- she had a new titanium flat iron that would keep my hair straight, thru sweat and for weeks no less!! So, I played along but deep inside I was puzzled. What makes her think I WANT to wear my hair straight?? I like to every now and again but the thought of a flatiron that keeps my hair straight for weeks, even after working out frightens me quite honestly. It sounds like destruction of my curls. Now, get this- she NEVER straightens her OWN hair but she is always trying to straighten everyone elses. I don't know... SMH... It's quite perplexing and I feel like I should tell her. The only thing she has for me at the end of the day is way for her to get some of my money. LOL... Oh well, just wanted to write about that.

That's weird...has she ever mentioned your natural hair? Was that a "hint" about what she thought of your hair? Well...WHATEVER! Your curls are the bomb! LOL

the Rly, she SPECIALIZES in natural hair but she likes to straighten it! She is building a business off of straightening natural hair and has products and everything. She is the one got me to go natural but she is all about straightening it- at least when it comes to others... It's really insane. I don't think she was saying anything bad about mine but she feels like she can straighten it without it reverting but the thing is- she is making an assumption that I want to wear my hair differently.

OK...so it's a business move...have natural hair clients who HAVE TO PAY to get their hair pressed! Got it! LOL

Is it a crime to be a Black woman and want to wear your hair in its natural state? My God! It's really sad we get the most grief from US...smh!

You know its funny but I have seen this a lot lately. Stylist who promote healthy natural hair but still want to flat-iron their clients hair weekly. I don't have anything against it but you have to be careful with the heat.

When I first went natural I was getting my hair flat-ironed once a week by a woman who was also natural. The majority of her clients were natural but she was flat-ironing everyone's hair! After doing my own little research I found out that this was not healthy for my hair and I stopped going to her.

@Krazy coils- HELLO! and yes, I believe it is becoming an epidemic. They're not encouraging curly because they lose business. They don't worry about ruining your curls. Kind of sad really. It's basically still saying don't love your curls!

That's exactly what it is! She must have her clients convinced that being natural = being naturally straight all the time or her clients are just not comfortable wearing curly, kinky hair. She's running a business and the bulk of her income must be the press n curl . Clearly, she assumed you were on that bandwagon, too. I think I would've told her thanks, but no thanks.

My thing is if she rarely wears her hair straight, why is she not giving her clients styling options with their curls??? I guess her money is longer to straighten it...smh, indeed!

@curlsgalore and all who commented- you know she encourages wearing your hair curly after the BC and UNTIL its long enough to straighten. I will likely tell her of my plans to only wear my hair curly except for on special occasions. That is my life now... I have chosen.

Another reason I think stylist choose to straighten all the time is, it takes less time than let's say doing two strand twist or coils which equals more clients in a day which equals more money.

You're right Lynnie. But not mine... She is all about straightening. And honestly, I'm not making her wrong for that. She has plenty of clients who WANT their hair straight, all the time. It's just not for me anymore. I don't feel any more complete with straight hair than I do with my hair curly. And thats what I have to share with her.

I agree it takes more time to NOT straighten. BUT correct me if I am WRONG. I Pay for YOU to do MY hair the way I want it! LOL!!

So, last week we had a ton of rain and humidity and I struggled keeping my twist outs in order and without frizz. I tried using only my shea aloe mix and my sheamoisture hair mask. That mask is great for deep treatment and claims it can be used as a styler but after a day or so my hair returned to major frizz. SO... I returned to the CURLS line which I love. Totally. Thelma loves it too. Despite the wishy washy weather, Thelma has been consistent and I must give her her props and accept that she likes what she likes. Yesterday at church, people kept asking me what I used and then today a white woman said hi in the hallway at work and said "you have the cutest hair!". I was quite surprised as it came out of nowhere! So now if I could just stop thinking about the KBN that Sweet and Nyla use, my pjism could be officially curved... LOL! It's still on my own because I still have a bit of shrinkage even after leaving my twists in for long periods of time. Once I figure that piece out, I'll be a happy camper.

Your hair is looking really cute! That Shea moisture mask must be really good because it was sold out at the Target I went to and out of stock on line. I think that's a sign that I don't need to buy anything else!

Thanks CCC and Krazy Coils! My hair has grown about an inch since my scissor happy beautician chopped off almost 3. I am hoping that once I have my routine down that it will take off again. I just want to have a steady regimen which I haven't had.

Krazy Coils- that mask is great. My husband has taken it over though. I have to decide now if I'm going to rinse it out going forward. Wow, out of stock in the store AND on line? That's crazy but doesn't surprise me mostly because every time they add some to our aisles, it's empty in no time.

Hey Lynnie, Sweet, Shee, and TMS! Thanks very much! I keep working at it, obsessing over it, etc. I wish I had the hang time I so desire but it will come. Besides, I think I'm making up for lost time for the weeks I spent with a broken wrist. Sweet- its not 100% but getting there. Getting some rehab in then perhaps...!

@Sweet- that's what I was asking you on FB the other day... I wanted to know which KBN product you were using but then I saw it listed below one of your pics. You were like- HUH? LOL

Thanks NP! I never thought of my hair as thick until I went natural! I love hearing that! Now I just need to get it LONG and thick.
