Do pre-natal vitamins make your hair grow long?

Hey there. My hubby and I have been trying to get pregnant for the past 8 months or so and I've been taking prenatal vitamins everyday. I will admit, that my hair has grown in the past 8 months and is definitely thicker, but I've also been eating better and taking better care of my hair. Anyone out there on pre-natal vitamins experiencing the same thing? OR have any of you mommies remember having serious hair growth while you were pregnant?

I believe there is some truth to the old wives tale. However, I wouldn't bank on it being the only thing you do for hair growth. My hair did grow when I was preggers, but like most mom's I took better care of myself. You try to eat better, drink more water, and I actually stopped drinking soda during that time. I've heard that there are only a few differences between a multi and prenatals. So it wouldn't hurt. Actually, I have about 3 bottles that I'll be taking when my current multi is empty.

I'm praying for your bundle of joy and from what I saw on Saturday I think you will be an excellent mom. Look on the back label of your pills. I believe there is an increased amount of certain minerals that may promote follicle growth and also your hormones going to overdrive when you're pregnant. When the stork finally arrives and brings your blessing continue to take the pills after your pregnant. This will help maintain/control breakage/thinning/shedding.

I agree. I compared prenatals and multi-vitamins awhile ago and there are a lot of similarities in the content

My hair did grow when I was pregnant. Although I didn't take prenatal vitamins. I took gummy vitamins because I am pill challenged (I gag on a BC pills).

I agree with everyone else that your water intake increases dramatically and you try to eat healthier.

Continue to enjoy trying for your bundle of joy. Don't get stressed/obsessive about it. The LORD knows when it will happen. Nothing that YOU are doing is going to make it happen anyway. It is truly a BLESSING/MIRACLE from GOD! HAVE FUN!!

@Pinkrage Thank you! I'm going to try to eat better and drink more water now. IT's been a little frustrating, but I'm trying to stay optimistic.

I had been taking pre-natal pills for twenty years and I do think they make a difference. Just recently I started using a muti vitamin for women and I had to add a iron suppliment. After this bottle of vitimans that I am take now I am going to switch back to pre-natal. I thought since I was in my 40's now I needed a vitamin for older women. Also it took 2 years before I had my first. (I was 37) The lord does everything in his own time so just be patient. Me and the hubby got a lot of practice in waiting for our time and now we have two little joys.

I have a 4 year old and a one year old. I've always had low iron and a friend of mine got them free at the PX on base so I started taking them and they have always worked great for me. I still had to take iron pills during my pregnancies but they helped when I wasn't.

savybrown.... yes they do help. i just had a baby a month ago and i took prenatals starting a year before i had her and my hair grew like crazy... the prenats and the hormones i think are what make it happen .. my hair is now down my back almost to my waist when its curly even good luck ttc

its just dry now and thats why i came to the site i dont know what to do with my hair lol

oh and my hubs likes wrestling so thats why im wearing that shirt.. i had just woken up from a short nap and my hair was really frizzy plus it didnt have anything in it ... i just had it braided in two pig tails the night before .. i need to start sleeping with a cap on to cut the damage

jazz, you have a ton of hair!!!!

I went to see a nutritionist yesterday and he suggested that I start taking a prenatal multivitamin to help with my overall health (especially my slight iron deficiency). I noticed there is Biotin in it, and when I used to take Biotin my hair grew like crazy (I stopped b/c my water intake decreased a bit and I started breaking out). I will see if there is truth to the myth!

@tiashauntee yeah thats prob why i have let it get all funky lol cause there is a ton of it and it takes forever to do lol ... in the pic that is just one of my pig tails ... there is more on the other side lol

@jazz c'mon girl. Give yourself some credit. You JUST had a baby! And believe me when I tell you half of us WISH we had your hair length. (dry or not!) Look around the forums for some ideas, or try starting a string of your own about dry hair. People will give you answers!
