Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
I am going to do some two strand twist this weekend. I want to wear the twist for a week then wear a twist out for a few days, then start over. I have about 3inches of stretched hair and strinkage is something else. I did a small row last night on dry hair and it seemed like the twist appeared longer than when I did it on wet hair. But, I think my twit hold better at the ends on wet hair.
Do you twist on wet or dry hair? If you do it dry, how do you get the ends to stay? What products help reduce the frizz and yield a better twist out?
Thanks ladies.

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
Lately I have been doing my twist on dry hair. I always apply product to each section of hair I twist. I've used MJ BabyButtercream, ORS Twist and Lock gel, my shea butter mix (not enough hold), KBB hair butter, and BeeMine Bee Hold Curly butter. I didnt use them all at one time though. When I get to the end of my twist, I just twirl it around my finger and it stays.
The only difference in the twist done on wet or dry hair for me is length. Wet twist = shrinkage (I like that sometimes) Dry twist = length
I hope this helps.

Same here and Depending on the products I use I can get a more defined look with the wet twists

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
Thanks yall. that's just what I was thinking. The products should wet the hair a litte to get my ends to stay in place.
Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
I like how my ends look when I do my twists wet. I seal my ends with castor oil or shea butter to keep them from frizzing up. What also helps is if you leave the twists alone after you separate them . (that takes planning and pratice). But I LOVE how full my hair is a couple days later, or when I do a midweek retwist. My favorite product right now is BeeMine curly buttercream. It's like MJ without all the icky ingredients. That's what I did this one with.

That twist out is AMAZING!!! I have a question about the Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter....does it make you hair dry? This is my second time using it and even though my hair is soft, it feels dry...I hope that makes sense. What other products do you use in conjunction with the Curly Butter?
BTW, my avatar is the results of my first use of the Curly Butter. That's second day hair.

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
@Lynnieluve Thanks! Your hair looks great!
In the winter, because it has glycerin in it, the Bee Mine Bee Hold can make your hair dry because glycerine is a humectant. As with any product I use in my hair I always dampen my hair with homemade leave-in first, and I seal with castor oil. (Clear or Jamaican black it doesn't matter).

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
I also twist when wet... my avatar is my hair twisted w/ Giovanni Direct Leave In and EVOO and EVCO mixed. The style was about 10 days old in that pic. I have since taken the twists out after 17 days and here is a pic of my hair today (I untwisted last night using shea butter, cocoa butter, and sweet almond oil mixed). I plan to wear it like this for a few more days and then do micro twists on dry hair for the 1st time (like KinkyCulyQueen) some time next week which I hope can last for 4-6 weeks.

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
@ Savvybrown - Thanks for the tip. I am gonna put some olive oil on my twist tonight and see how my hair feels tomorrow. I'm use to using "real" butters on my twist so there is no need to seal.
The next time I do my twist with the curly butter, I am gonna try it on wet hair and make sure I seal with oil.

This is my twistouts when done on damp hair:

I just cowashed w/HE and twisted on damp hair with my shea butter mix.
I've also been able to rejuvenate days old twistouts by using this DevaCurl Set it Free:

This sprayed w/ Devacurl and twisted....
Becomes this after a few hrs:

For me, it's all about finding the right product that works for your hair.

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
Last night spritzed my hair with my homemade leave in and sealed my twist with olive oil. My hair still feels "funky" and I dont like it!!
I think I am gonna give the curly butter one more try on my next set of twist (Sunday) on wet hair and make sure I seal with oil. If my hair still feels like this then I may have to shelf the curly butter until Spring/Summer.

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
@Lynnielive Olive It is possible that your hair is sensitive to glycerine. But also, you may have some buildup and it all might work better on Sunday on fresh, clean hair. Oh yeah, and even on wet hair, I use my homemade leave in on each section before I use the Bee Mine. Let us know how it goes. I'm curious.
Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
This set of twist was done on clean hair. I dont think it is the glycerin. My hair LOVES Oyin handmade in the Summertime. I was wondering if it was the aloe vera gel.
I am gonna try your technique and see what happens. I will report back on Monday. Thanks for your help.

Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
Wow! I really need this thread ;p I'm having the hardest time with my twists and twist outs. Taking notes ladies...thanks!
Re: Two strand twist...Wet or Dry
I do both. On Saturday morning I cowash, air dry and twist while wet (adding products while wet). I leave those in until dry (Saturday night/Sunday morning. Then i take each twist down and retwist the dry hair. It seems to hold my coil pattern and stretch the hair when i so it that way.
If I twist on dry hair, I spray with a leave in conditioner, oil and then seal with hair butter. Shrinkage is minimized but the products hold the twist.
