Sweetdrk1
Hello ladies,
I was avoiding this because I didnt feel I had anything to offer. I am the student and you all are the teachers; however Lynn was not standing for it as well as Serenity23 (thank you ladies) LOL!
My hair story starts when I was a little girl, the only dark skinned little girl in a family full of people who were of fairer skin tone and longer hair. Now don't get me wrong, my mother kept my hair tight, but it was no where near as long as my aunt (we are the same age) We were the exact opposite in everything (or so I thought) she was light I was dark; she was thin I was NOT; she had hair down her back and I..well you get the picture. Then there was my grandfather, who felt if you didn't have long hair you were not a women. I decided when I was 15 or so that my hair did not define me, I was an individual and didn't need to be compared to anyone else, so I cut it all off! I always rocked short cuts, it was permed, but shaved in the back and very little on top! I allowed it to grow when I was carrying my daughter and my stylist was shocked with my length. It was then that she started trying to make me understand I didn't need a perm. I didn't understand then, but my curls were fighting for attention even with me having a perm.
Fast Forward almost 40 years and I decide no more perm, should I transition or should I cut it. I got impatient and I went for it. The length never bothered me, but I oh so loved what I found under the perm.
I did the big chop on August 22, 2009 and through the willingness of sistas like you all I am learning how to take care of my hair.

Re: Sweetdrk1
good morning curlies,
I am off today so I am going to finish shopping. What doesn't get got today...well you fill in the rest. LOL
So my hair...I love the smashed look in the morning NOT!! AND it's brick cold today. So I took my Pooka Pure and Simple Hair Nectar and a dab of AfroVeda Pur Whipped jelly and went to work seperating these curls. My curls are like pups and my scalp is the mom!! Very hard to separate them!!! hahahahaahahahaaaaaa. As the week goes on, this is day 4 of this rod set and the curls are hangin in there. I find it fairly easy to revive them...and the parts are slowly disappearing...
I have my coupons in my bad..sneakers on my feet and I am hitting up Macy's last one day sale of the year!!!

Your hair looks great! I just looked at your progress collage and wow! You have so much growth!
That rod set in the last pic is really well done -- your hair is shining, girl! What do you use as a styler, because your hair is so well moisturized?

Hi Courtie and thanks for the love. To Co-wash once a week I use HE HH and Bed head Moisture Maniac (I know this has a cone in it) but my hair loves it. I also use Pooka Pure and Simple Hair Nectar, the ingrediants are:
veg & nut oils, essential oils, frangrance, lemon peel, rosemary and lavendar. I put this on my fingers when I separate my curls in the morning.

Well I just left Macy's knew what I wanted and didn't browse was in and out. On my way out a sista stops me and says "how do you get your hair to do that?" my smile was so wide that my cheeks started hurting. She then asked "is that a perm?" the smile got wider even. I was happy to explain what I did and recommend this forum to her so she could meet all of you lovely ladies!! Man that felt good!!

Your hair looks lovely.
I think I'll show my mom a picture of the style you're rocking in the natural hair progress picture. Is that a straw set? You have similar faces so I think that style would look nice on her too.
