I never deep condition
I read a lot about DC and realize that I never do that. I use leave-in pretty much everyday tho. Anyone else not DC. For those who do DC, how does it help your hair. I wonder if I just don't need it because I live in Southern Cali.

You know I wonder about this at times as well. I hardly ever DC my daughter's hair and it's just as thick, healty and shiny as can be...but I'm not sure if that's because she's a child or if she's in protective styles all the time. I say if your routine is working, stick to it.
Re: I never deep condition
I deep condition every week. I have to say that the couple of times I've slacked off and let it go to 10 days rather than 7, that I did feel like my hair wasn't as pliable and moist. I think it's definitely doing something for my hair. I never have problems with holding moisture even in this cold my hair is moist.

I honestly dont notice a huge difference. Like you I use leave-ins a lot so I think that helps to balance it out. I make a great effort to DC before and after i dye my hair. I stick with for a couple of months just to be on the safe side. after that i tend to slack. I havent seen any adverse effects though
Re: I never deep condition
I hardly ever DC. Actually, during most of the 3 years I've been natural, DC'ing has never been a consistent thing with me. I've tried adding DC'ing into my regime a few times with a few different DCs, and most of the time my hair felt rougher and much worse after DC'ing, which I think is due to the fact that my hair is pretty fine and doesn't need that much moisture. DC'ing just isn't my hair's cup of tea, I guess.
However, I have been co-washing frequently (daily to add moisture and weekly with two separate conditioners to cleanse), moisturizing twice a day lately, and using shampoo only to clarify when I have build-up, and my hair seems to be doing much better than when I used to DC frequently. It's funny, though, because this new regime is really just the byproduct of me being a PJ and trying to experiment with and use up all of the products I've bought. Who knew I'd actually find a routine that worked?

Just goes to show how different all our hair is. I always use a leave-in when I'm not doing a WNG. I typically don't use a leave-in, but moisturize daily with my spray bottle. Now what I don't do is seal. I used to, but I have completely slacked off. I can't remember when I last sealed. I know it's been since October.
Re: I never deep condition
WNG = wash-n-go
When I don't DC, my hair gets dried and its harder to detangle. I also have to seal my ends about every other day or they will start to feel dry - maybe because my hair is somewhat long, and very porous.

I only DC when hair is newly colored. I use regular conditioner on wash days and use leave in daily (most times the leave in is used for styling my twists).

I definitely think things change as your hair gets longer. I notice from watching older YT vids and blogs I follow that it's just more, more, more maintenance as the hair gets longer. That makes sense.

Totally. I tried to be super simple, low maintenance at one time and ended up with dried, frizzy, tangled, breaking hair. If I want to stop doing things like DC, sealing, etc, I should just cut my hair!
