Post by Winnielours 28th November 2009, 11:33 pm

Hello Everyone!!!

This is my first post!

So here goes:

I am trying to figure out my hair temperament...its so unpredictable!

I've been on crutches since Thanksgiving (i have 1st and 2nd degree burns on 50% of my foot after dropping boiling turkey broth on it). Obviously, my hair has been the last thing on my mind. Well, I tried the curly fro for thanksgiving and it did not turn out the way i wanted it to Sad boo!
i ended up putting a headband around my head for thanksgiving....
the next day i had a somewhat nice ponytail but im trying it again tonight with the cold wave rods...we'll see how it goes! i might even post a pic!

Yours truly,

Winnie

My hair journey!!

I've been natural my entire life up until October 8th, 2005!!!

Yes the stupidest impulsive decision i've ever made in my entire life!!! But you know i was a freshman in college and had no idea how to do my hair. I went through high school with my hair kept under control in braided ponytail. I wanted versatiltiy, so i thought getting a relaxer!! i cried after the relaxer cuz first off i didnt know that i shouldnt have combed my hair the night before so my scalp was burned and my hair felt like straw! my hair was always so soft to the touch!

Well that was my first and last experience with a relaxer!! i lost all my baby hairs and my mother was not happy with my decision... So i started transitioning that same day!

But let me tell you I was horrible! I flat ironed my hair every chance i got! i had no idea the damage i was doing! the hair that used to be my bangs dont curl anymore!

I didnt BC because according to my baby pictures my skull is just not
the right size for fro lol!!! but by the time i cut those relaxed ends
my hair was still shoulder length.

My roommate my junior year, made the drastic decision to go natural...and she wanted to take me along with her...BUT I WAS COMPLETELY ADDICTED TO THE FLAT IRON!!! But i missed my curly hair!!! I couldnt control it but i wanted it back!!! it fits me!

so although my hair my look longer and have the appearance of health....i have just started my natural journey!!! My hair journey began this summer in August 2009! No more flat irons!

i am so glad that these forums exist!!!! had i had all this info earlier my hair would be beautiful!!! just like you other ladies!!!

Wish me luck!

Welcome Winnie, sorry to hear about your foot. I am glad it is doing better.

I think one of the things about being natural is you sometimes get unexpected results. If all else fails, I hope you have a no fail hairstyle (bun, ponytail, etc.). If you are courageous, go with your hair, unpredictable and all. It amazes me how an accessory can change a no-do to a gorgeous hairdo.

Above all else, learn your hair and its needs and those unpredictable days may come less often.

So today I'm getting the aussie moist!!! yay!!! My grandmother who speaks very little English is going to buy it for me cuz she wants me to feel better...she knows its all about the hair!

DC DAY!---trying to come up with a routine...

I'm washing with Suave Clarifying Shampoo (i have major build-up with the Cantu Shea Butter)
Still trying to figure out my DC? (I'm out of products, so its up to me to make some kind of concoction, protein-free)

Then I get to twist and curl...right now this is my only reliable hairdo.

So the results from my Curly Fro last night....not so good...sporting a pony before i DC and stuff.
Reasons why it didnt work...Cantu build-up, my hair feels clumpy in that oily sense and didnt curl much in the cold rods...

So i pre-pooed for the first time!! love it!! I used coconut oil...completely saturated my hair and then used sauve clarifying shampoo. I'm not shampooing for another month.
My hair felt incredibly soft! Very happy with the results.

There was a sale at Walgreens and my grandmother got me:

HE Hello Hydration
Aussie Moist Conditioner
Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

YAY!

Now I understand what slip means! The Hello Hydration was a great detangler and I used the Aussie Moist as a styling conditioner...

I'm airdrying a twist out and will post the results tomorrow...

So I had a real nice bun today!!!

But I realized today that my hair was in crisis before I changed my ways!

So I rarely if ever slept with a satin cap or any cap for that matter until just a few weeks ago. I wore tight buns, gelled the front of my hair like crazy...would do anything to tame my hair with the flat iron even if it meant burning it slightly!

I know I was horrible to my hair...and it has been nothing but kind to me by growing despite the mistreatment!

When I rock ponytails you should see the amount of frizz...I just realized that this frizz is damage!!

So it is now time to baby my hair!

Love letter to my hair:

I will treat you like with love and tenderness
I will be kinder to you
Spa days will be more about you than my face
No more sleepless nights on that rough cotton pillowcase
I will pamper you with shea butter nightly and wrap you in satin
There will be days were we will not get along and have our differences but but know that We will make it together through from the damaged desert that you are to the healthy tropical forest that you can be! I love you!

With love from the woman who's been mistreating you.

Yea I'm feeling extra cheesy tonight!

Hello Hello Hello,

I was expecting today to be a bad day but everything just fell into place!! Very happy!

So my hair is again in a bun...I'm over it and was wondering what to do to it tonight. I was gonna try a dry bantu knot out for friday... we'll see if I still have the energy or the patience. I have had several experiences with the bantu knot. I am already losing sleep because of my foot but I cant have my head hurting too.

But I am also looking forward to DT on Sunday!! I was wondering if you ladies have any suggestions? I definitely wanna use a DC and add some honey and coconut oil maybe...what else should I add?
