Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I use the JBCO in lavendar and it smells just fine, but mostly works miracles for my scalp and hair ! Love it. Def gonna be a staple for me past this challenge, ecspecially in the cold months. In the summer I will probably use it on my ends.

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
Still going strong, a bit heavy handed with the shea butta on my twist for the past 2 sets, but my hair is lovin the moisture
I think I will DC with it next week instead of using it in my sets, the weather is getting warmer.

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I'm still in, loving the results so far. Especially after getting my hair shaped last week; my hair is making a helluva rebound. I'll be making castor oil a regular part of my regimen from now on. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I've gotta get in on this challenge on principle alone. I grew up in Jamaica and had no idea it could grow your hair. My granny only kept giving me this stuff to drink once a week. Why? Why? Why? LOL

I am adding a picture of my nape as a baseline. I first used castor oil today along with my everyday moisturizer.

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I first used my castor oil as a part of the deep condition today.
I used the Palma Christi castor oil and mixed it with the aubrey organics honeysuckle rose moisturizing conditioner. I left it in my hair with a cap for about an hour and rinsed. My hair felt very moisturized!

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
2nd week of using castor oil as a part of my deep conditioning. I noticed that my hair is definitely thicker. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I am still just going to use it once a week. I read the whole thread and I noticed that people use it more often, but I remember from my perm days that my scalp does not like to be oiled! I would get dandruff flakes outside this world. Castor oil is very thick and I am afraid of using it daily.
I am going to post a follow up pic in June of my nape. It looks that the back of my hair is growing in [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Hey ladies! Changed my mind, I have been adding castor oil to my hairline on and off during the week. I think I will add that to the routine along with the deep condition

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
This is my first time checking out the challenge section and I see a lot of great benefits to doing this challenge, however, I'm thinking castor oil will be too much for the summer months!
Would it be a good start to use it when I deep condition?? Should I at least try to apply it to my scalp maybe once a week to see how it goes with the heat?? Once I get feedback I will then come back and say what my plan is.
I'm open to any suggestions!
Thanks!

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I am new and oh so late here.
I am wondering if I use the castor oil/olive oil/joboa oil is that a good mix or better yet just the castor oil and olive oil?

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I just wanted to come back and post. I purchased some home health castor oil yesterday and I mixed it with some tea tree oil and some hair fertilizer for moisture. I sprayed a lil water on it while I was braiding it up and this morning I opened the braids and it looks so good. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
I know this might be hard to believe, but I am not kidding my hair feels totally different today. I mean it seems to be softer and more manageable. I am not believing how my hair looks. The castor oil is a lil greasy but my head definitely needed it. That castor oil works wonders on my hair. My hair is thick and I am telling you it feels so good.
Thank you all for the helpful hints about the castor oil on natural hair.

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
Welcome to the challenge naturalgirl & kdenise! With Castor Oil, just play around and see what works! I have been using it as a part of deep conditioning and I noticed that my hair is definitely thicker! I have been wearing headbands a lot recently, so I have been putting it on 2-3X a week around my hairline and base.
Here is a follow up pick of my base - just had a hair cut, but I noticed a difference.

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
Anyways, back to the point. I decided that I was going to mix it with
another oil because I did a lot of research and found that castor oil
can be irritating to the skin when used on its own. The last thing I
need to be doing is putting something irritating on my scalp. While
researching I found a lot of sites that said mixtures of castor oil and
sweet almond oil had been used in the past for hair growth. I also had
read previously that sweet almond oil was very good for the scalp. So I
decided to add sweet almond oil to my castor oil. I thinks its about
30:70. Its only been a couple of weeks so I haven't noticed any growth
but I have noticed changes in my scalp. Its much smoother and I am
seeing so much less flakes. After this challenge is over I think I
might try to incorporate both oils into my routine just so I can
continue to have a healthier scalp. We'll see what happens!

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
I don't believe that my castor oil challenge is almost over (July 3rd)! I must say that my hair is definitely thicker in the back and I am definitely going to keep DC'ing with it in my routine. I will send a follow up pic later!

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
Hi Curly Nattie,
I am really impressed with your results. I have a bald spot in the back of my head and thinning edges. Have you been using castor oil along with your DC or are you using it daily as a moisturizer as well?

Re: Castor Oil Challenge
Hi Ashima,
I have been using castor oil everytime I deep condition and leave it in for 1 -2 hours in my hair. I use it occasionally on the hair line 2-3 times a week when I am wearing headbands.
