Erica, if you are low on items, you should definitely purchase them. My plan is to purchase my staple items when I have about half a bottle left which is about 2 more uses for me. Shea butter is a must have item....cant be going with it.

Erica5417 wrote:@Traveljunkie08...well, since you just gon' call a sista out, lol. I can try for two months with one exception--I am low on shea butter and my family has to have it (best thing in the world for dry skin). You and NubieNatty didn't help by listing the EO condish that I've been eyeing at TJ Maxx. But I'm going to pretend I didn't read that.

Yes! Two months is great! cheers

And I'd hate for your family to be deprived of shea butter, so def replenish when needed.

Shocked Shocked @ some of your lists

I have no intentions on not buying things as soon as a sale hits, but this is definitely a great idea. Maybe I'll participate in the future. Smile Goodluck ladies!

Thanks to the ladies who have joined the challenge so far!!! I know it's not easy putting yourself on "blast".

Adding pics of your stash was a nice touch. I'm going to try to do that.

Also, for those who want to save money, are you planning on tracking how much money you save? I'd like to, but not sure how to do it. confused

Post by NubieNatty 3rd January 2010, 8:41 pm

i think the way im gonna track my progress is by putting a good $20 EVERYTIME i look in hair aisle. like erica, i know i save at least a good $20 when i step in the store. matter of fact, i just left whole foods and picked up jane's nourish n shine and thought of the challenge and put it back. that wouldve easily been $22; and giovanni was on sale for $5. i reached out for it and hit my own hand. after all, i was just goin in for soup!

sooo i guess i need to add a $20 bill to my piggybank at home!!

Post by Corygentri 3rd January 2010, 8:53 pm

I am finally going to Whole Foods and Trader Joes for the first time in 6 months tomorrow so when I get home I will sit everything out on my counter, take a pic and put myself on blast. I will also include stuff on my daughter's hair that I need to use up as well. I have a feeling it is going to be worse than I think. Do we have to include stuff from relaxed days that we never got rid of?

Cory I dont think you have to include the stuff from relaxed days if you are not using it but let's see what TravelJunkie says. This is a suggestion: You could pack it up and take it to a local women's shelter in your town.

Pinkrage, that 50/50 is amazing! I love it. The Tea Tree is great too but that 50/50 detangles and moisturizers like nothing else. The Smooth As SIlk is a bit protein heavy but good for a DC every now and then.

@Nubbie: That's great that you put stuff back at Whole Foods!!! I went to the mall today and Target, and didn't buy any hair care products. I was very proud of myself.

@Erica: That's probably true for me too. I guess I won't try to exactly track it. I'll just know I'm saving money and that's the most important thing to me. And I love your avatar too!

@Cory: Hmm...I would say if you still have it, incldue or give it away if you aren't going to use it.

@Lynn: Great idea! I plan to do that tomorrow with some items I boxed up before the official start of the challenge.

@PinkRage: Welcome to the challenge. I'm impressed that your end date is June!!!

Post by Erica5417 4th January 2010, 1:05 am

@TravelJunkie08, thanks! It looks a little like your hair in your avatar.

@Pinkrage, June? So you just gon' make us all look bad, lol. I had surgery in early December so my hair was left untouched for two and a half weeks straight. I was so scared to detangle, I just knew all my hair was going to fall out. I got into the shower and just saturated my hair with the 50/50 and water. Never seen anything like it. I haven't tried it as a DC yet. Let me know how it turns out.

@Lynnie, we should all commit to donating some items to local shelters.

@Sweetdrk, I usually use SAS as a brief rinse out. It definitely can't stay in the hair unless you need some protein.

@Erica- I have enough products to last me until June. It is going to take me that long to try them all out and see what works and doesn't work.

I have already reduced my product list. I am giving all of my sample size items to a newly natural sista for her to try.
