Re: **traveljunkie08**
Just a quick hair update. My hair has been in twists for about five days. I've been wearing them loose, and just feel that my hair isn't long enough yet for me to feel comfortable wearing them like that. I think I look better with them styled. So, I did the rosa parks roll with the twists. Here are a few pics:
I think I'm going to keep these until Tuesday and then do a twist out.

TravelJunkie08,
I just discovered your thread yesterday. 1st, you hair is absolutely gorgeous!!! I plan on will continuing to follow you. I love your tips and am curious as to where you purchased Samy's Curl Creme.
2nd, how awesome are you going to Haiti and volunteering!!! My church has been a couple of times over the last few years and they are putting another trip together. If I can get everything straight with my kids and hubby, I may go. Ok, back to you, BE SAFE!! Like most of the other ladies, I vote for twists. I think you rock loose twists quite nicely. Actually, after reviewing you entire thread, I'm pretty sure you can rock anything.
Where are you thinking about going to grad school? Anyway, good luck to you in the pursuit of more education (always a good thing).
One more thing -- based on your reference to ivies, I think we are sorors!!
I will keep you and all of the other wonderful people volunteering in my prayers.

Thank you so very much for the compliments!!! They were right on time.
I purchased Samy's Curl Creme at Ulta. It was okay. I probably wouldn't buy it again unless it was BOGO or deeply discounted.
Hopefully I'll be going to grad school here in St. Louis. The application is due in a week, so I still have some time to put the finishing touches on my essays.
Anyway, thanks again for the compliments, Soror.

I'm doing pretty good. As my departure for Haiti draws nearer, I am getting a little nervous. I am in no way concerned for my safety or anything like that. I'm more concerned about my mental well-being. I am exceptionally emotional, so I'm just praying for strength; particularly when it comes to children.

Wow...1st God Bless you for going over there! That's really big! My prayer for you: May God anoint you with the ability to give love, respect, and tenderness that is so desperately needed; for physical and mental strength, and protection! ~ Amen!

Thanks for the prayers, ladies!
I decided to wear my hair in three strand twists while in Haiti. I want to try them on dry hair, so after deep conditioning and washing my hair today, I decided to blow it out. And I wore it blown out to the store. Received lots of stares. A natural approached me and asked if it was my hair. After I told her yes, she asked what I did, etc. Here's an idea of what it looked like:
I'll probably start my twists this evening and finish them tomorrow.

Yes, it is indeed big. I leave bright and early Tuesday morning. Got the last of the items on my packing list this afternoon. I also finished my grad school application!!! Now I just have to try to write an article for a friend's blog before I leave. Thanks for the prayers!

Hi TJ
Your hair is really long and cute blown out. I will keep you in my prayers, and I pray that you hold up emotionally. I understand your concern cause I find myself tearing up when I pictures of the children.
I hear that the raining season is coming and everyone is concerned about the shelter or lack there of. Be safe and be careful.....

Your hair looks really thick!! Love the blow out. I would have been staring at your hair too but a "good" stare.
I'll be praying for you and look forward to your return. I would love to hear about your experience (of course what you are willing to share).

Yeah finally, I can see the growth too! My friend from journalism school recently started a blog (actually, it's more of an online mag) called New Naturalista (http://newnaturalista.com). It's fantastic.

Thanks!!! Yes, the rainy season is starting, so there's lots of concern about disease and getting ppl more reliable shelter. That's part of my task.
Thanks! I'll definitely tell you guys about it.Lynnieluve wrote:Your hair looks really thick!! Love the blow out. I would have been staring at your hair too but a "good" stare.

Well ladies, this is my last post for the next couple of weeks. After five hours, I finally finished 3 strand twisting my hair. Sorry, but now pics. It looks nice though. I will be wearing a scarf 75% of the time to protect my hair. I hope it holds up! Can't wait to catch up on your threads when I get back!
