Cutting for Growth? Empty Cutting for Growth?

Post by *CurlyNikki* 1st November 2009, 4:56 pm

I've noticed that it has been taking me longer and longer to detangle...today was the last straw. My hair was super tangly, and I had a bit of breakage on the ends. After what seemed like forever, and a half bottle of conditioner, I finally managed to get all the knots out.
It was then that I remembered that it'd been well more than 5 months since my last trim, so I reached for the scissors. I micro trimmed my hair in sections--the same sections I use to twist, I'd separate out, snip the ends, and twist. My hair immediately felt better! It was like magic.

It seems that regular micro trims are necessary for me to keep length and detangle without ripping my hair out. My hair always feels better for months post trim.

Does anyone feel this way? That it's necessary to trim a little to see growth?

Trimming definitely helps keep the hair vibrant. It feels thicker and moves better after a good trim. I have mine professionally done here and there and just cut single strand knots out myself when I feel one pop up. My great-grandmother always told us to keep our hair healthy by getting our ends trimmed, and everyone swears hair grows faster when trimmed. cherry

It's counter intuitive...but there's something to it!

Trimming is soo necessary for my hair health. I commend those who can go for months or even a year without trimming and have healthy hair but my I get too many single strand knots for that lol. Also if I dont trim my ends get frizzy and undefined which is where the tangles start to happen. Dusting has helped me retain length!

To get rid of split ends if necessary and to RETAIN length so that the growth you get translates as longer hair..sure. I rarely trim though. I'm going to try to seek and destroy...someday haha. I am so lazy.

I trim my hair on a fairly regular basis but I know I need to be more proactive.

I trimmed off maybe 2 inches in some parts of my hair last night... I was tired of the heat-damaged straight ends... it always messes up my curly do's! My roommate came in and was like "do you know what you're doing???" I looked at him and was like, do you see any curly hair on this floor? he said no. I said, well yes I know what I'm doing then...

But yeah even when I was relaxed I would get regular trims to combat against split ends and retain length so I'm a believer!
