DENMAN BRUSH Empty DENMAN BRUSH

Post by MzLaLaRochelle 15th December 2009, 12:58 pm

I kept hearing how excellent Denman brushes are for natural hair, so I went to http://www.denmanbrush.com/acatalog/hair-brushes.html where there are a variety of Denman brushes. Which one is the best one or is it different for everyone? My hair has about 4in+ of new growth and between 4-6 inches of relaxed hair on the ends (transitioning). Help!

I believe Goody has a very similar version that is more affordable. I had a Denmen like brush growing up it was great at RIPPING my hair out. I would recommend going to look at it before ordering. A lot of naturals love it but I have seen a few that dont

Someone on YouTube has a video about which Denman brush to choose. I can't remember the person's name, but perhaps you can do a search for it. She basically suggests getting the style with more space between the pins. (I think it's the D31 or D41, but double check.)

I have the D3. I've had it forever. I used it when I was relaxed, transitioning and now natural, and it works wonderfully for me. It detangles and smooths my wet/damp hair (with a leave-in or conditioner) very well. You may be able to find the D3 at Sally's for around $7.50 if you have a Sally's card.

I have what I call my Fenman (Fake azz Denman) and I believe it's made by Annie...The handle is ivory, the base of the brush is red, with clear teeth. It cost me all of $1.99 at the local BSS and it works beautifully. I do plan on trying a real Denaman at some point, but we're in a recession! LOL.. $7.50 is two gallons of regular unleaded these days... Smile

Buying a knock off or similar type brush is certainly an option if you're on a budget. But I guess I'd look at it as a long-term investment. I've had my Denman since 1999. I don't remember how much I paid for it.

Sally's also has a lot of coupons, so if you are concerned about price, you can wait for the right coupon to help further reduce the price of the brush.

yes! I have a Fenman too... didn't want to pay all of that money so I went to CVS and got a really wide spaced denman-like brush for about 5 bucks. They have some denman knock offs too at CVS that cost like 15 dollars.

So you all use it for detangling only? Can't I use a wide toothed comb? Why do I HAVE to have (not really saying I have to, just taking a lot of naturals opinions on it) it?

@ Learning to Love

I use it for detangling and smoothing the product evenly through. You could use just a wide tooth detangling comb but you won't get the product evenly distributed from root to end. I usually use the denman (type) brush on small sections of my hair when I do my version of Miss Jessie's shingling method.

I use the Denman D3 on my daughters hair.

Finger comb, wide tooth comb, then denman.

Less frizz, more defined curls.

I agree with NikG20 and pandzz. I purchased my Denman from Sallys for about $10 and was disappointed when I had seen a "Fenman" for cheaper at another BSS. I only use after shingling Curl Souffle through my hair before doing two-strand twists. It distributes product more evenly than a comb and is safer than a fine-tooth comb when working on smaller sections.

I have a Denman D4 brush and a "Fenman" by Goody that I bought at CVS (I bought the "Fenman" first and then the Denman when I had a 15% coupon at my local BSS). Both work pretty much the same when distributing conditioner and detangling my really thick hair. The one I got at CVS was under $5.

@ NikG20....Yes the denman clumps the hair together perfectly [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] . I don't know why but the design of this brush is perfect for naturally curly hair. The proof is on the pic.

Okay, so all of you have 4 something hair and it works just as good? My daughter has coils and I'm wanting to preserve them rather than break them up...I guess I'll just have to go out myself and get one....thanks for explaining in more detail!
