Re: Ask CurlyNikki
Flat Twist-out How To:
What you’ll Need:
· Wide tooth comb (for detangling)
· Rat tail comb
· Leave-in conditioner
· Gel or whatever type of product you use for hold
· Coconut oil or whatever you prefer to use to seal your ends
· Gray perm rods
Step by Step Instructions
· Co wash hair and follow with your normal deep treatment
· Put your leave-in product on your hair
· Detangle hair thoroughly
· Part hair in a small section, smooth and comb that section and apply more product if necessary. Add this point I add a little bit of gel for extra hold and smooth hair again
· Grab two small sections of the hair and proceed to twist.
· Flat twist hair to scalp in same manner you would corn roll hair. The difference is you are manipulating two sections of hair instead of three
· Twist hair as close to hairline as possible, twist hair straight back twisting as close to scalp as possible so that hair doesn’t lift from the scalp, grabbing small sections of hair as you twist. Twist hair as far to the end as possible (I DID NOT stop at my nape).
· When I could no longer twist my hair, I would then add my oil &the perm rod to the end of my hair
· Repeat process until entire head of hair is twisted
IMPORTANT NOTE: When transitioning hair must be completely dry(before unraveling) because you are working with two textures and the permed ends aren't naturally curly/wavy). Using this style will camouflage the two different textures.
I would sit under hooded dryer for 15 minutes the next morning to ensure hair was completely dry before I unraveled hair.
When unraveling the twists take your time!!!! I separated as I unraveled the twist. I normally fluffed up to make my hair big.

How does Shiraz taste, Nikki? I'm trying to get into red wine, but I'm still a rookie! LOL. Any wine suggestions for those who are clueless about wine?

I hope it helps! I think the most important part is putting that roller on the ends!!!

Shiraz is GREAT! There is also a sparkling Shiraz on the market.
My favorite reds are Shiraz and Rose-great with Italian food

You can try the foam ones but I don't think they work as well. I used a pillow roller the first time I did the flat twists and I called in to work sick the next day so I could redo my hair. IMO the rod is what makes the big difference with that style

Loveself 247: Since you're going to transition for a year, you can also do roller sets and those should last at least a week. I did rodsets as a transitioner and I still do them as a natural because it's easier for me to maintain. You could also do flexi rod set or just a roller set. There are a lot of transitioning options Diva

Hello Curly Nikki!
I love your site and I've learned so much! My question is about the giovanni products you use. Do you use or have you every used their conditioners? If so, how did you like them? Thanks!

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
I haven't used their conditioners...mainly because I had a bad experience with Direct Leave-in. It wasn't heavy enough for me, and left my hair dry and straw like. There is one conditioner in their line that has my PJ curious, but I haven't acted on it yet. I only use their shampoo, once in a blue moon (the tea tree or 50/50)
Re: Ask CurlyNikki
[color=orange]@Nikki...Ok I just got out the mirror from attempting the Two Strand Twist...girl I'm laughing at myself because I have doubts on how it will turn out tomorrow. I had to use my foam rollers because "Sally's Beauty Supply" closed on me and I needed some perm rods...Well this is what I did. Now keep it real with me Nikki....should I take this mess down and retreat back to the Bantu Knots or should I test drive this? I have a lot new growth, I can't even comb my hair with a regular comb anymore because it is so thick...lol
Here are my twist
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
They started unraveling a little bit so I used Aloe Vera Gel
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
So I rolled them with my foam rollers

I'm gonna reach for the Ceramics in a hot second and revert back to......

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
@CurlyNikki Hey Nikki! Just completed my very first henna treatment! YAYYY! It was actually kinda fun...I felt like I was putting perm on my hair as I was applying the Henna! LOL! So yeah, Im wrapped up in a plastic cap now as we speak! Anyhoo...my question for you is, I had some henna left over and I remember seeing where you said to put it in the freezer, so that's what I did! So whenever I decide to do another henna treatment, do I just let it thaw out? Will I need to add anything to it, or not [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
Hi Nikki, I love your blog and check it everyday! I have been trying to do the twist and curl as well as braid and curls but they do not always come out right. I mostly do wash n go's. Do you think I could do a wash n go and still put rollers on my ends? It seems the rollers on my ends keep them neater and healthier.

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
@loveself, results???!!!
@ natural83, hey pretty girl! I'm happy to hear that you tried henna! And yes, just freeze it, and when you're ready to use it, just thaw it out, and apply You don't need to add anything and the dye will actually be stronger!
@hollis, definitely! I'd love to see your wash and go with roller set ends! If you decide to do this, please send me a pic! Stretching my ends keep them happy...bigger rollers work better than smaller one.

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
Thanks CurlyNikki, I will definitely do this on sunday and send a pic! I think I have 1inch rollers, should I use larger ones? Also i'm kind of new to your site, should I send the pic through the forum or right to your email? Thanks!

Hi Nikki!
I am a new transitioner but I am ready to go ahead and do my BC. I live in the Brier Creek area and although I know you do your own hair, Iw ondering if you've met or come into any naturals in the Raleigh/Durham area, who has a shop and could do my BC for me.

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
Krika of Sophia Sunflower/MyHoneyChild could do it...as could Taji of Hair By Taji. Google both of those, and see which you believe is a better fit!!!
Hopefully we'll get to meet soon
I LOVE your avatar pic by the way. Is that your wedding day?! You look stunning

Re: Ask CurlyNikki
Thanks!....that was one of my bridal portraits. I'm a newlywed, just got married on June 6th!
We definitely will be meeting soon! I plan on attending the next meet-up. I have to give you a big hug for creating this site. I never would have made it (sing Marvin Sapp right now! lol) through this transition otherwise. Most of the other sites are wayyy too busy, that I get a headache trying to navigate through them.
By way, I'm applying to your alma mater in hopes of getting my MSW and MPH......pray for me!
