How long have you been natural?

I feel a bit sad that I didn't know my last relaxer was going to be my last relaxer, so I didn't note the date! It was sometime late August 2010, so I tend to start my count from 1st September. I am still transitioning, so not natural yet 5 1/2 months since my last relaxer! Woah! How time flies! :-D

I've been natural since Springtime 1997. I was sitting in my last quarter of organic chemistry and somehow we'd gotten in a discussion of cosmetics. When the professor illustrated the mechanism of relaxers and perms on the hair, I was certain that this was something I didn't need to do to my hair. Besides my grannies and great=grannies all had heads full of healthy chemical free hair. So should I!

I went to a place in the mall called Trade Secret and asked for a hair cut. It didn't matter to me that the woman cutting my hair was white. A hair cut is a hair cut right? She'd asked, "How much do you want to cut?" I told her to cut to the point where the texture changed. She did and washed and conditioned my hair. She was astounded that 1) my hair was jet-black and 2) it was curly.

There were no sites like this at the time. So I went to those who were the most versed in caring for natural hair--old black ladies who still wielded hot combs. I rarely got it pressed but they had the potions and lotions on deck for conditioning and moisturizing. Also Mom had a great deal of experience with my natural hair before tiring of the tantrums and the strenuous upper arm workout! She helped tremendously. So I've been natural for about 14 years but who knows how many "big chops" I've done during the years!!! I'm in cold and wet Dublin so I doubt I'd cut my hair because "it's just too hot!"

Last relaxer was in October 2008, moved to Germany couldn't find a stylists, decided to go natural!!! Transitioned for 13 months, cut relaxed ends off November 2009

last relaxer was december 23 2008. I big choped 7 months later in july 09. i have been natural for 19 months.

Last relaxer September 2010. BC'd December 29th 2010. I got antsy . So I've been 100% natural for about 6.5 weeks...

Your BC looks great and your makeup is so very nice.

I transitioned for 10 months and it has been about 8 months since my BC!!!!! It's all in my ticker below... Loving this journey....

Last relaxer in Dec or Jan of 2010 (wasn't officially transitioning at the time so I didn't keep track). BC July 10 2010. I've been natural for 7 months and will be for the rest of my life. I love it

My last relaxer was Oct/November 2010. I plan on transitioning long-term, however, I'm getting tired of my hair breaking off, so I'm really, really, considering the BC.

I was natural from 1997-2001... I relaxed the summer of '01 until December 2010... My edges were broken off, my hair was shedding and I was over it! Now I have two textures and I am itching to just grab the scissors and CHOP!

My last relaxer was 11 months ago. I never kept track of my big chop because, to put it nicely, I was less than thrilled with the results. I think it was bout 5 months ago, though. I just stopped hiding my hair under wigs about a month ago and I am loving it.

Thank you Songbird. Funny thing is I hate my hair. My hair wants to be someone else's hair when it "grows up". LOL Guess they are right, the grass IS always greener.

My last relaxer was January 1, 2009. I BC'd starting October 1, 2009 and the chopping lasted about a week before I got someone to get all the ends off. I have been natural for 16 months!

I haven't had a relaxer since may of 02.

My last relaxer was March 2009. I BC'd on September 30, 2009. I've been natural a little over 16 months.

My last relaxer was March 2008. I did my BC November 2008. Been natural 2 years now (27 months).

Girl you are on point from the makeup, the hair, the pose. You exude confidence in your pic and I hope other "shorties" who are self-conscious about short hair will take notice. Very short can be very beautiful!

1st time - Summer 98'-Summer 07' = 9 yrs.

My last relaxer was February 2009 and I transitioned for 7 months. I did my big chop on September 8, 2009. I have been fully natural for 17 months now.

my last texturizer was late nov 2009,moved to kansas that same month,had briads in.
BC'd on april 19th 2010 ...been chemical free for almost 15mons n will be one yr in april

15 months? is that a typo cuz then you said one yr in April. lol

DONT REMEMBER WHEN MY LAST PERM WAS, I BELIEVE MID SUMMER 2009 MAYBE. BUT I CUT OFF ALL THE RELAXED ENDS MARCH 2010. SO I GUESS ILL BE 1 YEAR 100% NATURAL NEXT MONTH. WOWWWWWW.. HAVENT EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT IT, THANKS!
